The world as we know it is dead.

Mankind destroyed itself with nuclear war, but some human communities survived the nuclear winter that followed thanks to the whims of immortal eldritch horrors. But what did these human communities have to sacrifice to earn their survival?

What Lurks Beneath Bad Dreams follows:

1) an eldritch horror in search of true love

2) a human soldier from the Commonwealth of Man in search of a cultist who has valuable information

For years the government has secretly placated an eldritch horror beyond their understanding with human sacrifices. Our protagonist, Petre Predav, is chosen as a sacrifice, but rather than devour and destroy him, the eldritch horror becomes infatuated with him.

1) Petre as he learns about the the eldritch horror, and

2) the government's response to the eldritch horror's behavior

1) Petre as he grapples with the loss of his humanity, and

The Goddess summoned Heroes from another world to vanquish the Demon Lord. After a long and bloody war, the Heroes are able to defeat the Demon Lord. Peace returns to the realm, except for the creatures of the Demon Lord's former armies.

Orcs and goblins are hunted down in their forests. Witches and warlocks are burned at the stake. The creatures of the Demon Lord's former armies live wretched lives full of fear and annihilation.

A small band of surviving warlocks decide that they need a Hero of their own. They weave their dark majiks and summon Alice Merryweather, an inmate on death row for three counts of murder.

The first part of the story follows Alice as she:

1) gathers the scattered demon tribes

2) rebuilds the Demon Lord's fortress
