The Many Lives of Cadence Lee

The Many Lives of Cadence Lee
HIATUS
556 pages

Cadence Lee thought she was a normal girl, perhaps a little well to do, but not exceptionally so.  She had her college classes, she had her job that her uncle gave her, and she had a nice boyfriend who was sweet if a little awkward.

Except, when a mugger accosts Cadence and her boyfriend attempts to wrestle a gun away from the criminal, Cadence ends up shot.  A normal girl, with the kind of wound Cadence had, would die.  Cadence managed to do that part.  But a normal girl wouldn't then open her eyes again and learn that death is not as permanant for her as it is for other people.  She can be reborn again, and again.  Each time stronger and with new abilities.

The catch?  Any world she is born into, she can never return to.  She has infinite lives, but only one life for each.

So begins The Many Lives of Cadence Lee.

It was after World War Two ended; rumors spread of people wielding amazing powers or mutating into horrifying monsters.  Seventy years later, heroes and villains dominate the news and battle in the streets, discrimination drives mutants into the criminal lifestyle, and the governments of the world are struggling to handle the rapidly shifting paradigm.

Maxmillian Grants, like any sixteen year old boy, wants to be a hero and he has a secret: he has the power to do it!

Except, when he actually looks into the risks and the rewards he discovers that being a hero is not really worth it.  Being a villain, on the other hand, certainly pays well.  If you don't mind risking being sent to prison and being hunted by heroes and other villains.  Max, not being an idiot, does mind both of those things.  Instead of being a hero or being a villain, Max decides to take the third option, to be a vigilante!  His plan?  To hit the criminals in the gut and run off with their money, making the world a bit brighter at the same time by taking down the bad guys.

But how long can he actually manage alone?  Can he really navigate through the dangerous world of supers and capes without declaring for either heroes or villains?  Or will he be sucked into the web of plots and drama that is the life of those with superpowers?

In a world of floating islands of stone in the sky, where rivers flow through the air and defy gravity from one island to another, and ancient ruins can be found containing wonders beyond what can be produced by the lands current inhabitants- a millenia long war rages.

In the distant past, beyond recorded history, when the crown of humanity's glory, the city of Uri, had stood whole against the enroaching demon swarms- even as hope seemed lost, a band of heroes, against all odds, managed to steal powerful magical knowledge from the demons.  With the demon's forbidden knowledge, in the heart of Uri a new ritual was made.  Called, "The Millenial Summoning," the ritual had the power to call a being from another world that would have the power to change the world forever.

The first being summoned became known as "The Speaker," and he brought the power of the Gods to the world.  With the blessings and power of the new priests, the unstoppable demon hordes were finally halted.

A thousand years later, the ritual was used again and "The First Sorceress" was brought to the world.  She brought the knowledge of advanced magics, and techniques to find and refine magical talent.  With the magic power now added to the battlefield, the stalemate was broken.  And for the first time, the demons were pushed back.

Another thousand years later, and all of humanites hope for a final victory were dashed.  Traitors slew the ritual's participants and took their places, and humanity quaked as The Demon King stepped into the world.  His name, his nature, where he came from none of these are known, but what is known is his overwhelming power and his brilliant strategic leadership of the formerly formless hordes.

Still, despite their position being even more dire than it has ever been since history has been recorded, humanity held on for another thousand years.  Aided, thankfully, by The Demon King not taking the field after the first few years and battles.

Now, the ritual is being cast again and a new hero is being summoned.

In our world, after nearly three decades of study and hard work, Lucas Jaeger is making his dreams come true.  With a double doctorate in both genetics and microbiology, as well as an associates degree in accounting, he has finally, after nearly driving himself mad from stress and sick from overwork, been able to put to together a presentation and ask for a business loan.  His long time dream, earned by his own blood and sweat, to start his own commercial genetic company is finally coming to fruition.

Lucas's car never left the banks parking lot and Lucas was never seen again in our world.

This is a rewrite of "A Broken World."  It is basically the same story, just a thousand times better and with decent length chapters!

This is a fanfiction of the story Metaworld Chronicles and is made with the permission of the author

The deep and detailed world of Metaworld Chronicles is filled with interesting characters and magic and has a story that is excellent to say the least.

This isn't a story about the great and important adventures of the protagonist, Gwen Song.  Nor is this exploring some deep and interesting idea using Wutosama's world.  No, this is a collection of stories that fell through the cracks.  Little bits and pieces, rumors and mysteries, that mages and NoM's alike gossip about and speculate on.

Sometimes silly, sometimes sexy, sometimes a little tragic, and maybe even sometimes a bit horrific- these stories are sure to entertain a bored mage in a world without internet!

A word about Wutosama:  I never intended to write this.  A bunch of smaller fanfics that might contain scenes that could be described as a bit... steamy...  But when I asked Wutosama for permission, he said yes, and then asked me if it would be a sexy fanfic.  And of course, once the idea had been brought up- once the cat was out of the bag- I couldn't just let it go.  I asked myself, "what kinds of misadventures could occur in a world like this?" and the next thing I know, I'm writing about Richard being invited to a party and getting an eyeful of more than he bargained for.

Wutosama, behold Pandora's box, and know that you have opened it.  Beware the monsters that spring forth, because at this point I have simply too many ideas to not write at least some of them down!

This work has been dropped- because I am rewriting it.  Look forward to the new and improved "A Broken World," now available HERE on Royal Road!

Three thousand years ago, Demonic creatures invaded the world.  Though their power seemed irresitable, a band of heroes managed to steal the knowledge of summoning rituals and worlds from them and created, "The Millenial Summoning."  A powerful magic that would bring forth a being from another world with the power to change the world forever.

The first being summoned became known as "The Speaker," and he brought the power of the Gods with him.  Teaching prayers and invocations that blessed humanities legions and began to push back the demons, founding of the "The Church of the Spoken Word" rose to power and a stalemate was reached.

Two thousand years ago, that stalemate was broken by the second casting of "The Millenial Summoning," and the arrival of "The First Sorceress," who taught humanity the basics of magic and enchanting.  With the power of the Sorceress, the mages, and the priests the tide turned and the Demonic hordes began to be shoved back, signaling hopes of a golden age for mankind.

One thousand years ago, the hopes of final victory and a new dawn for mankind were dashed by traitors who slew the participants of the ritual and took their places, using the ritual to bring forth a godlike being from the demons home world, "The Demon King," for no human knew his name, erased millenia of growth reducing humanity to barely a fragment of its former glory.

Now the ritual is being cast again, and a new being is being summoned...

In our world, after nearly two decades of studious work, Luke Jaeger is making his dream come true.  Working and going to school full time, sacrificing his health and social life in his youth, Lucas obtained Doctorates in genetics and virology, as well as associate degrees in business and accounting.  The modern world is not easy, and despite it nearly driving him mad from stress, this was the bare minimum he needed to be approved for a business loan to start a company focusing on commercial genetic therapy.

Despite the challange of getting his business running, Lucas feels that his work has finally paid off.

Lucas's car never left the banks lot, nor was Lucas ever seen again in our world.

Apparantly though, gods don't really understand what 'live' means because I am now a crystal in a cave, A Dungeon Core.  Whatever, I don't really mind.  A Core is immortal, at least as long as it isn't killed- and that means I have an infinite amount of time to restore my old body.  So I will dig in, build my defenses, and dedicate myself to recovering my body and giving it the power of the Core I have become.

But it doesn't seem like I will be left alone by the world around me...

As corporations grew and government debts skyrocketed, the balance of power shifted.

Giant conglomerates formed from merged megacorporations came to own most property on Earth, as well as control of utilities and politics.  For decades, the corporations pretended to follow the rules of the countries they were based in, but slowly the charade came to an end.

In a series of business deals, the vast majority of countries ceded their territories to these conglomerates leaving only a few nations remaining, though none of them remain unscathed.

In North America, The United States has been reduced down to the size of its original thirteen states.  Poverty and crime are running rampant throughout the remaining territory as the government struggles to keep control.  To the west, The Midwest Reclamation Corporation uses its PMC and Corporate Espionage divisions to sabotage and destroy the remaining power of the government.  In this new age of warfare, a new force is needed to defend freedom.

And so R.A.D.E. was formed, Recon Assault Demolition and Espionage.  An elite force of soldiers dedicated to preserving the freedom and dignity of the remaining territory.
