298 pages

A young dungeon core forms next to a lovely village, full of lovely people who would likely understand its plight of not wanting to murder them all if only it had a mouth with which to speak. Instead, everything goes horribly, terribly wrong.

Its literally a crystal, it can't be having a panic attack, can it?

This is the story about a village, a dungeon, its desire to provide light and laughter and life. It tries to choose the talents and perks to bolster its life-mana alignment every time, to further its cause. So how is it that it wound up with an undead army and some insane boosts to death-aligned mana? How did everything go so wrong?

Faced by the guardian of an ancient tomb she experiences firsthand the horrors of her new home.  She will need to find allies; horrors, monsters, demons, warriors, and kings to help her.

Morgan Mallory was a perfectly ordinary college student until she was whisked away to another world full of strange creatures and wondrous magic. She is completely mentally stable, has no childhood trauma to speak of, and has certainly never engaged in self-destructive behavior as a form of punishment and emotional regulation.

Morgan has always dreamed of getting isekai’d like the heroes in her favorite light novels, and she wants nothing more than to emulate those heroes. She has always wanted to help those less fortunate than herself, to stand up for the weak, and to be a righteous heroine who puts the needs of others before her own wants. And she has absolutely, positively, definitely never fantasized about murdering thousands, controlling minds, and pursuing total world domination.

Trust her.

If someone precious to you needed your help, would you extend it? Would you still do it if it costs you your peace and perhaps even your life?

For Tercius, a man mysteriously reborn nearly thirteen years ago, there was only one answer to both questions.

Feeling compelled, he sets out to journey to the northern Sogea and its infamous Western Izmittor mountain range, a natural stronghold of sky tearing mountains and deep canyons. Legends about the place abounded, but he knew without a doubt that the hidden valleys, rushing rivers, thick forests, and desolate landscapes hid powerful predators, the likes of which stalk the harsh terrains for an easy source of meat and bones.

The many natural dangers of Western Izmittor would be hard enough to navigate safely for a lone traveler, but to make matters worse Tercius had enemies in the heights of Western Izmittor, humans and spirits who would see him dead if they ever learned of his true connection to the Pyramid of Tergaron and the Society of the Magi. To make things even more difficult, he also had to ensure that the true extent of his own Innate Skills remained hidden, for if the prying eyes of the world fell on him and his many secrets came to light, then he would never again know a day of peace.

Can one reborn man manage to keep his secrets and still succeed in doing what his conscience compels him to?

Will he have to choose one over the other?

And can he do any of it without reigniting the sparks of a planetary war the likes of which had not been seen in millennia?

Follow Tercius’ story and find out!

This story is a continuation of Again from Scratch, a story of mine also posted on RR. Reading it is NOT necessary to read this story, but for anyone who wants to get a little bit more background, here is a link: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/38803/again-from-scratch

Again from Scratch was my first journey into writing and I have taken all I learned from that and started writing Again from Scratch Saga, a continuation that is almost stand alone. Changes in certain phrases and words between the two are edits made because of the rewrite plans I have for the old story.

The story is available here, on RR, on Webnovel, and on Scribble Hub.

The cover was taken from PublicDomainPictures.net and made by one Nona Lohr

Double-Blind: A Modern LITRPG

Choosing a college when your family is struggling can be difficult, but it isn’t supposed to be world ending. And the falling meteor is seriously limiting Matt’s options.

Now in the aftermath, his home city is locked down by a mysterious dome, corporations are looking to monopolize a wealth of new untapped resources, and people are suddenly developing powers via a system that seems to have borderline sinister intentions. In the chaos, he decides to stick to what he knows: stay out of the spotlight, grind, and survive.

Watch as Matt is dragged into a dark LITRPG set in the real world, where the price of failure is death, and the prize for winning is beyond his wildest dreams.

++++++++++++++++++

There’s a couple big influences here: Solo-Leveling, Squid Game, and Code Geass. If you enjoy LITRPG stories with morally gray characters, high stakes, and smart protagonists who start weak and eventually become powerful in a unique way, you’ll probably find something to like. But be forewarned. It won’t be easy.

I'll be writing this fast, so keep in mind there's likely to be typos that we'll correct as we go.

Now on Book Two!  Check the Volumes selector to make sure you start at the right place!

Book One: Paranoid Mage

Callum had seen things all his life.  There are monsters and beasts living among people, but he learned very early not to admit such things, not if he didn’t want people to think him crazy.

It turns out that the supernatural is real, but at thirty Callum has no desire to be part of that secret.  Not that he has a choice when it turns out he is a mage, albeit one that hasn’t cast any spells in all his life.  There are requirements, duties, and education that the powers that be insist he be subject to.

To hell with that.

Book Two: Renegade Mage

After escaping from the Guild of Arcane Regulation and the Bureau of Secret Enforcement, Callum has lost his greatest protection: his obscurity.  Now the powers that be know who he is, and hiding is harder than ever.  Nor is hiding a plan, just a reaction.

Now Callum is forced to decide how he wants to approach the supernatural world, and how he’s going to keep himself secure when the apparatus of government is arrayed against him.  Even if he wanted to live as a mage, that bridge has been thoroughly burned, and even if he wanted to live as a normal person, he is far too deep to close his eyes to what he’s seen.

He has to make his own terms.

Paranoid Mage is an urban fantasy but it goes rather sideways from the normal stuff fairly quickly.

Chapters are Fridays, 5PM EST, with approximately 5,000 words per chapter.

Jackal Among Snakes

The royal bastard of House Vasquer, Argrave, has changed after his stay studying magic at the Tower of the Gray Owl. The sickly man's awkward posture and cruel behavior have been replaced with a neat dignity and acerbic wit. His listless life has found a path of undeniable purpose. Most come away thinking he seems to know too many details about too much. Few can claim to know his motives or his goals.

Behind the scenes, though, the primary contributor for an open-world RPG's wiki battles existential dread and things far beyond his ken as he struggles to adapt to a grim, gothic fantasy world that he had the misfortune to claim as his favorite game. This is his tale.

#####What to expect from this story#####

This piece is a high-fantasy style story, featuring many of the species and surroundings one might expect to find in such a world. The cultures are original and well-developed, with the primary setting being a European-style feudal society. Warfare, fell beasts, and natural disasters are commonplace in Berendar, and take the center of many plots. The protagonist is a smooth-talker, but the world does not exist for him; he must struggle to gain power.

Now I'm trapped in a stone cell by some psychotic wizard and his blue henchman and I have no idea what's going to happen to me.

All I can do is wait. Time will tell.

The world is wild, untamed. Humanity thrives, but only in isolated, well defended cities, ever shrinking as the wilds slowly reclaim all that was taken. The most capable magic users are raised up as Mages to serve mankind, further their cause, and defend them over the course of millennia.

Tala is freshly graduated from the magic academy and determined to make her own way in the world. She hopes to pay off her massive debts, quickly, but still plans on living each and every day to the fullest. Too bad the Academy left some glaring holes in her practical education. Loath to let that slow her down, and with no patience for a standard, low-paid apprenticeship (intended to fill many of those knowledge gaps), Tala strives to learn and improve as rapidly as she can on her own. Her unorthodox methods for preserving her own life allow her to take greater risks in search of profit and advancement, much to the surprise of those around her.

I do hope you enjoy this tale, but let me know what you think either way! Critique, both positive and negative, is welcome.
