The Harvester

The Harvester
by Ahra Manyu
ONGOING
447 pages

Rakna wasn’t normal. No, unmistakably not. Whether it was his appearance, his personality, his abilities, his identity, nothing about him was normal. But he was trying to be. He was merely but a tormented soul doing its best to live the life it had been taught to enjoy again.

Would being collected by a glorified system bring something out of him? Would he finally learn to breathe in the pool of blood that suffocated him?

The Harvester does not sow, he only collects. All he has ever known to feel was loss and the only thing he can do now is take. He will devour their hearts and drink their blood if it is what it takes.

An eternity of dread and flame.

An eternity of dread (...)

This world is lost. The gods above and below have ravaged it. They are uncaring as their champions from other worlds play games of death and destruction. Children given power beyond imagination and turned loose to live out fantasies. What is not burned is ruled by petty godlings, squabling for scraps and the approval of their deities.

I fled this long ago, to this distant and forsaken land. I thought they would not venture to these broken crags, dissuaded by the harsh journey and lack of shiny trinkets to occupy the attention of their feeble minds. I though us safe, at the very edge of the world.

What a fool I was.

Now, by trapping time itself in a never-ending loop, the war must be taken to them.

Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck here. Arrogant young masters? Heavenly tribulations? Cultivating for days on end, then getting into life or death battles?

Yeah, no thanks. I'm getting out of here.

In which a transmigrator decides that the only winning move is not to play.

Beware of Chicken will be updated once per day. The exact time is up in the air, however.

The city, my city, had once been alive in a way that was hard to describe. Thriving, active, hopeful. Vibrant.

But life, as I had come to learn, sometimes possesses only the most tenuous of grasps. Finally, in the end, it became my city - mine alone.

I was, after all, the only one left.

Worse, it was entirely my fault.

There was red in my ledger that could never be wiped clean.

Not while I still lived, anyway.

This story follows Eran, a man who became the opposite of everything he had ever wanted to be; in a world where superpowers began to appear in a rare few, his lack of control over his own power relegated him to the role of a terrible villain - the Reaper, named so for the countless lives that he absorbed and made his own, each only furthering his deadly lack of control. Gone mad with guilt and isolation, he strove for a single heroic act - his own demise.

Death was less permanent than he hoped. Centuries later, he woke to a changed world and in a body not his own. Unfortunately, his power came with him. Yet this time, things would be different. This time, he had a chance to bring it under control.

He could never truly make up for the things he had done; he could never achieve redemption.

That wouldn't stop him from trying to be a hero.

Humanity is extinct.

In their wake, they left behind powerful artifacts and wonderous relics, most of which are still yet to be discovered.

Alien life flourishes in the ruins of ancient human cities. Hundreds of distinct species and cultures. But they all worship the "Old Ones" as gods, for who else could have created these impossible devices: ships that can fly, droids that can think, and gates that form bridges between worlds.

One power-hungry Empire has learned to use these gifts to conquer and dominate all other alien cultures. With each passing day, they grind the people of Gaiam deeper under the bootheel of oppression.

But when an old, jaded thief stumbles upon an ancient, living secret... a new revolution may be at hand.

This is the story of The Last Human.

Log Entry: 1011

Year: [Redacted]

By: Cristabel [Redacted]

Unit: KWSC

Division: Valkyrie One

Report: Black Site Alpha 3 compromised. I Repeat, Alpha 3 is compromised. Hostiles, identified as the Alliance, overrunning all security measures. All research data wiped from all stations and copies secured by Old Man and the Hell Hounds. They're en route to rally point [Redacted]. Valkyrie One and Saber Two making their last stand to buy time. [Redacted] personnel remain, but will be lost to cover Old Man's escape.

May winds of glory guide their way.

The old man a true veteran of the battlefield. Been everywhere. Done everything. Now he's running for his life, with the Kids and data his sister died for. He's fucking pissed. The alliance who messed with him is going to pay. He'd ensure it. But little did he know that he might just get wrapped up in a war greater than any other he has fought, because this time the Wilds is on the verge of collapse, not just The Imperial Warmongers. Will, he able to pull off this seemingly impossible task? Or will he fail?

PS: I am new at writing and this is my first attempt at this. Any criticism or suggestions is appreciated. Hope you enjoy the story. I am really slow at writing so I apologize in advance for the time between chapters.

Kreig was summoned to the other world 130 years ago, the last 30 of which were spent in a constant, vengeful war against any army that would attempt to subjugate him. Once he returned, he found out that only 10 years had passed.

He was given the title of War of the North but he never even knew about it. After all, nobody could get close enough to tell it to him.

But that all changes one day when a portal opens, allowing Kreig and a small band of soldiers to enter one of many portals that leads to Earth. As it turns out these portals have been opening ever since he was summoned, giving the people of Earth abilities that the world he was summoned to only used to have. But now... now, he has returned. Longing for his former life of peace and understanding, he allows authorities to capture him on the spot, only to be faced with deeply personal questions, such as "who are you?" "what have you been doing for the past 10 years?" and "why is your level so high?"

--------

...Have you ever read a story where the main guy who got isekai'd returns to Earth. Say, for example, FFF-class trashhero or the necromancer of Seoul station? Say, what if the authorities actually became aware what kind of monster had returned to Earth?

What if they actually tried to use them for something?

Kreig's been in the other world for 130 years, has experienced three great wars, and he isn't okay. Mentally speaking, that is. He's been imprisoned, gained and lost comrades, been betrayed... The whole lot. By now, all he wants is to put it all behind him, something the world doesn't seem to want to let him.

Yatze Congyi is a young officer-in-training, sent to study in the capital on account of his Regret affinity: the ability to catch glimpses of the future. Armed only with his wit and remarkable prescience, he intends to make a name for himself among the Union’s most powerful practitioners.

Yet, other plans are also afoot within Ichormai’s walls. Not to mention the Crowned Prime’s new retainer, a Death practitioner with a mysterious past...

This is an official sidestory to The Menocht Loop, which I am writing in collaboration with caerulex. It runs in parallel with some small intersections with the main story, but overall will be focusing on different characters and exploring the world in greater depth. So even if The Menocht Loop wasn't your cup of tea you might enjoy this, and reading caerulex's story isn't required before reading.

I exhausted pretty much every time loop story ever written and decided to write my own. You'll see a few similarities here between this story and some existing stories, at least initially. There's a lot of inspiration drawn from both MoL and Re:Zero, though in terms of pathos and darkness, this story leans more towards the latter. Be warned, it is something of a slow burn. The main character will grow and become powerful, but a theme of this story is that power comes slowly and often at great cost.

Jason had thought about punching a Shil’vati.

Who hadn’t?

Not only had the aliens conquered Earth with almost trivial ease, the seven-foot purple amazons also had the audacity to start running the planet better than Humanity ever had.

He'd never do it though. He was a reasonable guy, just trying to get by under his new feminine overlords.

Wasn't he?

(Edit: The book has now been placed up KU. Which means that according to Amazon I cannot have even a free copy online. I will continue to update the series with chapters for book two, but anything from before chapter twenty has now been wiped - apologies to anyone inconvenienced by this.)
