Richard "Quickdraw" McCallister: (...)
by T.A. Haywood
362 pages

McCallister was done with the world.  The world wasn’t quite done with him.

When the Tamani blew a hole in his ship, his friend, and his career, Richard McCallister called it quits.  No more TerraCorp work.  No more cheerfully donning the uniform and pretending he couldn’t see the cracks in the bulkheads around him.  From that moment, he’d be his own man again.

Until the message came – a whisper, carried through the few contacts he had left to the Dust, the farthest reaches of settled space.  A warning that the Tamani had returned.

When it arrives, McCallister is presented with a choice: He can run, finding a darker corner of the universe that the Tamani haven’t found yet.  He can stay moving, and stay alive.  Or he can turn back into the maw of their approaching doom and pluck his friend’s legacy from its teeth.

Winning means honoring his partner’s memory. Losing means sharing his fate.

The choice is his.

Some disasters can only be avoided if you know they’re coming, and even then, sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.

On Karell, you are either blessed by the gods, granted a unique power and the ability to gain experience and levels, or you are forgotten.  Micah Silver was a boy picked for greatness.  Chosen by the gods to bear a mythic power, he longed to take his place amongst the heroes and legends he grew up reading about.

Unfortunately his primary blessing only allows him to travel into the past by sacrificing his class, wealth, and levels.  Even if Micah's unwilling, fate has a way of forcing you to take up your destiny, possibly at the cost of everything.  Over and over again.

A comedy.

All life on Earth has been stolen away by The System, transported to another world at the behest of a distant galactic empire, who lived in terror of humanity's potential.

Ben was a normal, slightly above average man, and had been about to go on the first real vacation of his adult life. Now he must contend with danger and mystery in a world of monsters, magic and treasure, armed with nothing but his wits, and the special item given to him by The System.

This is his adventure.

Paths of the Chosen (Rewritten, (...)

Daniel Stewart was chosen to alpha test a brand new Immersive VR game, "The Realms". What he doesn't know is that he has also been Chosen by one of the Powers of a far-off world, and is now a pawn in a game much bigger than any he thought he would ever participate in. Will he survive and thrive in this strange new world, or will he stumble and fall, shattered by the ambitions of another? Does he have what it takes to walk the Paths of the Chosen?

Inspired by the Chaos Seeds novels, TheDespaxas's The Gamer, and a wide variety of games and books, although the world, characters, and systems are my own. Expect high fantasy, magic, combat and intrigue, love and loss, grief and passion. This story is intended for adult audiences and contains explicit sexual content, profanity, and violence (including sexual violence, although not by the protagonist and not as a focus of the story). Chapters with such content will be clearly marked, and all explicit sexual content will be behind spoiler tags. I prefer my stories to have happy endings, and especially in these uncertain times, I feel that it is important to maintain hope. While this tale will reach some dark places, I promise to you that, when all is said and done, the villains will be justly punished and the heroes will prevail and prosper. Remember: it is darkest before dawn, but dawn always comes.

Please note also that although this story does not have the [Harem] tag, it does have an extremely slow build into a polyamorous relationship. Additionally, starting with Champion (book two of the series), the [Multiple Lead Characters], [Female Lead], and [Non-Human Lead] tags would also apply to varying degrees.

This is a complete, ground-up rewrite of the original Paths of the Chosen, following feedback from here and elsewhere. It is now written in the third-person limited omniscient perspective and in the past tense. In addition, while the major plot beats are unchanged, most of what comes between them has been reconsidered and rewritten, with pacing and characterization as a special focus.

Update schedule: 2 chapters per week (Monday and Thursday), not counting bonus chapters. Chapter length is roughly 2,500 words on average, +/- 1,000 words. Chapters with explicit content tend to be longer so that they are still worth reading for those who would prefer a fade to black.

Updates every three days. Book one complete.

Magnus - or MC as he's infamously known - is the baddest mercenary of the 22nd century, specializing in the eradication of dangerous, high-value scum. So when a second-rate criminal organization in some backwater country captures his precious little sister and subjects her to the unnamable, there’s only one thing to do: mount a one-man rescue and murder every last one of them.

Though the extraction was a success, MC suddenly finds himself waking up to fantastical and hostile surroundings with nothing but his armor and a half-written note. Will he survive long enough to find a way back to safety? And can he do it before the timer on his life runs out?

- MC is stone-cold, strong, and gets even stronger, but fear not as his life is anything but easy.

- LitRPG-lite. No stats and an unconventional system. Expect abilities and progressions, but there will only ever be a handful of them.

- Science Fiction and Fantasy collide! (With a touch of mystery, Lovecraft, and body horror) There may or may not be romance in the future but there will never be more than one love interest if it does happen.

- Professionally painted art scenes!

- The focus for the first book will be on MC. This will also be the case going forward, but the cast of characters will open up in the later books. A few pov shifts early on, but they'll always be important for MC.

- Book one/120k words: DONE. Book two of the trilogy written, currently serializing. This series will not be dropped.

Welcome dear friends, to the Virtual Reality Full Immersion System called Bookworld Online!

Your name is David Drake and you are a 10 year old slave to the Marsh Hag. You were bought from your parents when you were only a small child at two years old. You don't really remember your old family at all. That's a good thing, since you would hate them on sight for selling you to her. All you've know for your whole life is pain. You are usually quickly healed and receive a lot of training and experience as her unofficial apprentice.

It's unofficial because she would never pay to have you registered as an actual apprentice. To everyone else, you are just the boy she took pity on and brought into her home. What they don't know is that you are much more than that. So much more.

You are her food. She uses you as her own personal buffet and she indulges herself quite often. You even have the permanent scars to prove it. You have learned many things from her, mostly without her knowing, since you have been helping more and more with her spell work the last few years and her potion making. The only parts you can't do are the magic condensing rituals that her potions require and the mana infusions that a lot of her other creations need.

Do you wish to initiate the Main Storyline with these parameters?

Please Note: I publish daily.Second Note: I changed this story to a fan fiction. It is based on Swamp Boy. The old story is about 4 years old and was dropped after 19 long chapters. The author hasn't been online since then, so I figured it was safe to do my own take on it.

-= New chapter every Wednesday! =-

What would you do if you found an ancient spaceship?

Michael Freeman is a disabled veteran who had just been fired from his mind-numbing cubicle job, which allowed his opportunistic girlfriend to dump him. Now, he only wants to spend some time in his grandfather's mountain cabin to unwind away from the drudgery of daily life with a cold beer in his hands.

Standing in his way is an ancient spaceship with an emotional AI, nanites that have invaded his body, an international crime syndicate, a suicidal FBI agent on a vigilante mission, terrorists... and this is just the beginning.

What can one man do when faced with insurmountable odds? Call it quits? Or… call some of his old army buddies and blow those obstacles to smithereens.

Can he become more than he had ever dreamed, reaching further than any man before? Staying under the radar of the powers that be while righting a few wrongs of the modern world.

He is sure of three things:

1. He really doesn’t want to follow the rules anymore... aside from his own.

2. Space is the ultimate frontier, and he had been given a turnkey technology to reach it—if they let him.

3. Those that want to hurt him and the people he cares about will rue the day they were born.

You do not always get what you wish for… sometimes, you get one hell of a lot more.
