Previously called Standard Reincarnation Story

In a fraction of a moment, the Earth was no more.  The planet was destroyed, and billions and billions of people were dead.  And it was all an accident.

This is the story of Elm.  A regular American born once on earth and given a chance to be reborn again on a planet with magic and monsters and dungeons.  Except that for Elm, this is far from the idealistic reincarnation into a loving family -- the standard story of a child raised by loving parents who teach him the ways of the world,

Instead, Elm is born into a family of inquisitors.  An order of nobility that is dedicated to hunting down and killing "Twice-Lived" -- the name society has for people like Elm who are reincarnated with all their memories of their past life intact.

Disclaimer

This story is:

1) Extremely violent and graphic.

2) Still in a rough draft stage.  I see what I am writing more like a synopsis than a fully fledged story.  I periodically will go back to flesh out earlier chapters, build characters, etc... If you find the words "Show don't tell," comforting accept that unfortunately, I'm not at that stage of the writing process yet.

3) At one point this story was called "Standard Reincarnation Story," and I had written an extremely off-putting description of the story. This was mostly to keep out people who would just read the silly first few chapters then rage quit as soon as the violent stuff got started.  Since I just had my first .5 star rating (without a page read count increase) that technique is not working, so I might as well treat this as a regular fiction and try to get regular readers.

So many litRPG stories are about a person who gets hit by a bus, heroically saves the girl, and then gets put into a game environment while that person is in a coma.

This is not that story.

World Servers - Dawn

World Servers - Dawn

The year is 2143, and much of the world’s population has been digitized for decades. Different servers are configured for different purposes. Some servers are pure gaming worlds. Others are offshoots of fringe political experimentation or regimes. Still others are based around ethnic or nationalist sentiment. Some replicate past times or past eras. And still others have been designed as totally imaginary locations created out of the dreams of programmers and the Artificial Intelligences that have been used to build and drive them. The gaming guild I Like Big Booty is a loosely affiliated group of friends and avid players. Theirs is an international guild which spans multiple servers, mostly running raids, ganking other players in PVP, and generally trying to build up the funds to purchase their own home world server. On one of the most populous servers – designed to resemble 20th century earth – a small raid team running a boring and routine run in Washington DC, comes across something that might change the fate of Virtual Reality across the solar system. Note: Per request, the title has been changed, though I might change it again when if I come up with something a little better.

Deep in the forest the elves have lived in peace and serenity, at one with their forest, for millennia. Their ways and culture have not changed, not for the coming of humanity and not during the rise and fall of humanity's kingdoms. Alannah is a young elven girl still trying to understand the direction of her life. But her life is about to change. Dark days are ahead for her people, and Alannah must face her fears and voyage out into the wider world if her people have a chance of surviving. -------------- I wrote an extremely short first chapter on Facebook, mostly as a joke, but it proved to be overwhelmingly popular with the LitRPG crowd (having more likes than my main piece of fiction). By popular demand here is Elvendark. I don't know how often I will update this. So it might go slowly at first. As requested on Facebook, the text has gone back to its original short choppy version. Future chapters will continue in this style. Thanks for the feedback.
