    1. Re: What’s a piece of common writing advice that you really disagree with?

"Try to subvert the reader's expectations!" No. Stop trying to make the reader feel like an idiot to show how clever you are. Why do you think the reader feels like an idiot if an author subverts (...)

    2. Re: What do you do if you feel like your novel is turning out bad

There's a very simple answer to this. If you want to continue this story, and if it's not where you want it, then rewrite it so you're happy with it. There's no shortcut to that answer.

    3. Re: Giving out [Free] reviews

Thank you for the review, and it's alright. We know our story isn't for everyone, but it being as real as it can be real is most certainly the point. Hope you have a good day.

    4. Re: "Show, don't tell." One rule to ring them all.

Look at any well written first person story and you'll see that that golden rule is little more than polished filth. First person stories should match the voice of the PoV character. There isn't a (...)

    5. Re: Do you end the story when it's time to end or do you prolong it?

As I'm browsing through the forum, I constantly see comments that says "RR readers like very long stories" which I get.  But I can't help but think, if you write with RR demographics is mine, do you (...)

    6. Re: You are forced to write something outside of your comfort zone: what do you write and why?

Go even further, reject reality. Their hemorrhoids get pregnant with them and they have a swarm of hemorrhoid children. The children proliferate until they are the dominate species on Earth. (...)

    7. Re: What size should I make my icon?

Vivian M.K. is probably right that a larger file size would solve the issue, but I am not sure what that size would be. Sadly if your image exists in a smaller size, you can't just make it bigger without (...)

    8. Re: Do you click on RoyalRoad ads?

Yes, I've clicked on the user ads. I clicked on one earlier today. I'm pretty certain that at least one or two stories on my follow list started with an ad click.  Out on the wild, wild web, I generally (...)

    9. Re: Should I give up writing?

Plus, I really like the internal conflicts Akasaka does, which I don't think can be translated well into writing. This is actually really easy to get into writing and is pretty surface level internal (...)

    10. Re: Don't include a prologue in your story

A counterpoint for your consideration. Series with prologues: The Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan Mistborn Trilogy, by Brandon Sanderson Stormlight Archive, by Brandon Sanderson Harry Potter (it's (...)

    11. Re: You are forced to write something outside of your comfort zone: what do you write and why?

What did I just read  :peodead: Something that fits the theme of this thread perfectly. With that said though, writing weird stuff isn't actually outside of our comfort zone. It'd be quite (...)

    12. Re: Grammarly or other grammar tools?

If it's useful to you, then that's what matters. Personally for us, Grammarly is really not that good. It tried to offer 'fixes' to our writing that would introduce more errors than when we originally (...)

    13. Re: You are forced to write something outside of your comfort zone: what do you write and why?

For us it wouldn't be a genre, but it would be third person writing. Our style simply does not translate to third person at all and it'd be like writing with your non dominant hand for us. We're sure (...)

    14. Re: Do you click on RoyalRoad ads?

We seriously didn't even know there were ads until we saw this thread and went to look. I sometimes notice them, but rarely click on them, because they don't interest me. I've found one or two stories (...)

    15. Re: What size should I make my icon?

We don't know the minimum, but ours is pretty damn big and there's no problem. If worse comes to worse you could just try to use the biggest image of them you got. Hope this helps!

    16. Re: 1 month anniversary, 200 followers!

Three chapters a day. Holy hell that's impressive! How do you manage all that? Congrats on your follower count!

    17. Re: Concentrating

We put on any music that fits the mood and close everything else. Pretty much the same as other people here.

    18. Re: The Fancy Pants Kids of RoyalRoad

All of you are beautiful people and you better not let anyone tell you otherwise! You are loved, and no one can take that away from you. If they try, then smack them, because they are wrong and are (...)

    20. Don't include a prologue in your story

This isn't meant as a call out post, nor as something that's set in stone. This is our personal take on it based on what we've seen and is an attempt to help. Chapter 1 should be the start of your story, (...)
