Holy sh** this is cool
To be honest, I've never read this kind of thing before. I'm more of a straightforward fantasy fiction kind of person, but this is remarkably well done! It's an incredibly professional piece of work. I suppose some people have probably read stories like this on this site before, but I haven't, and I must say it's a pretty rad introduction.

For All The Kids In The Library Corners
A lovely fairytale. For those of us who spent a great deal of time in the mostly-empty elementary and middle-school libraries, this hits home. It's lighthearted and funny in tone, but endearing. It has a comforting, meandering sort of feel. Almost picaresque.

Like Fantasy/SciFi Jack Reacher
It's always nice when form matches function. Military prose for a military protagonist. The sparse but necessary quality of the writing makes the strange combination of genres and influences meld naturally before the reader has realizes how strange it all is. Looking forward to this one.

A Rousing Beginning!
This is not something to skip past lightly. There is an air of professionalism to The Courting of Life and Death that you won't find everywhere. It has the hallmarks of High Fantasy, but doesn't at all feel like a copycat. It is wholly original. Can't wait to move on to the next chapter.
