The saying goes that when a man is born the Fates weave his destiny and swaddle him in it. Then one day the man dies, and the swaddle becomes a shroud. Heaven moves on.

It is audacity to question the Fates. Olympus is Olympus. The land of men is the land of men. To transgress that, to cross the line of divinity and scale Olympus Mons? To defy the Fates and cast off their threads?

That is hubris. It’s a mark that every philosopher bears plainly on their soul.

Farmer Boy

Farmer Boy
by Ken Law

Evel was just a farmer boy in a remote village. Where other boys left to go on adventures, he stayed with what remained of his family, toiling away at the field his father had left him with.

One day, as he explored the woods, he was attacked by a wild goblin. Afraid and weak, he could only cower when a knight came to his rescue, saving him from his untimely death.

Then, as he stared at the corpse of the goblin, he had an idea, and buried the goblin into the soil before planting some seeds over it. He thought the goblin would act as a good fertilizer! At least, according to that old book he read.

To be fair, it was. But how was he supposed to realise that it would bear so much more?

A slice-of-life story of a fantasy farmer boy growing towards the future, and all that happens along the way.

Until You Do It Right

Until You Do It Right

The world ended on December thirty-first of the year two thousand and twenty, precisely at the stroke of midnight.  The human race began to be systematically exterminated by the spawn of the System.

We were given a chance to defeat them, to take back our place at the top of the food chain.

We failed.

The first to perish were those who bravely rebelled. The soldiers. The defenders. One by one, they fell. In their final moments, they begged for aid. Nobody replied.

The next to succumb were those who feebly cowered. The deniers. The leeches. Together, they fell. In their final moments, they cried out into the darkness. Countless voices replied in kind.

The last to decline were those who shamelessly ran. The deserters. The cowardly. Alone, they fell. In their final moments, they whimpered quietly. There was nobody left to answer.

The final human to die was a survivor. A runner. As he died, he begged for salvation. His prayers were answered. He was offered a chance to save himself, along with all of humanity, and he took it.

This is his story.

I sat in the dark and thought: There’s no big apocalypse. Just an endless procession of little ones.

I am absolutely new to writing and will take any and all constructive criticism. Please give feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I will update the tags as they change, and I hope that you enjoy this little story I'm writing!

Quick warning: Seamus is intentionally a flawed character, and this story is going to explore those flaws and perhaps even change a few of them. I do not agree with all of his actions, but it is what it is.

Sellas's first memories are of a bar. Empty tables, dusty cupboards, a few days alone, and a knight that cuts off her head.

Sufficed to say, there are some issues.

Still, life's not all bad. The knight soon leaves, and every night, the bar restocks its shelves— there's bread, and alcohol, and...

Well, no, that's about it. She'd leave if she could, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

Trapped in a single, open-floorplan room and tethered to a few dozen meters out the door — Sellas waits, lives, and levels.

She is...

Our community discord.

With one step, an ocean is crossed. With one swing, an immortal is slain.

Grisla Orlith's name has been in contention for centuries; millenia. Has he ever existed? Is it true about him?

They hear of the future, but they don't know his past. Assumed as a genius from heaven, a warrior without peer.

But back then, from those that knew of him... only saw a worthless boy.

[Adventure, Wuxia, Martial Arts, Fantasy]

For those not in the know, this is a book with some western and eastern fantasy sprinkled in. This is a work coming from someone who's a long time fan of the genre and would like to add my own flavor and spin to it, and I particularly dislike the shallow xianxia characterization and development. To counteract that is about eighty percent of the reason I'm writing this. The beginning might be a slow burn but I promise I'm bringing up some awesome scenes and moments once you're invested. Again, this is not some fast food xianxia. But I can say that as a lover of the genre I won't be completely shying away from the stuff that got myself hooked into it in the first place.

After all, the law of evolution is survival of the fittest, and Salvos is a survivor. And perhaps, eventually, she will leave this world behind for a better place. But is that what she even wants?
