The Infinite Labyrinth

The Infinite Labyrinth

(Book 1 "Shanghaied" & 2 "Shortcuts" now complete - Book 3 "Secrets" now on-going)

Georgian Era Steampunk alternate history meets litRPG!

For Jonas Sims, this is a great day in the summer of 1818, the occasion to have a peek at the coming and goings of the Professionals, those blessed ones who are able to travel the Zones of the Infinite Labyrinth, and share his wonder with his best friend.

For Jacques Deschanel, tier seven Professional, it is a great day, when the plans of his master Napoleon Bonaparte are coming to fruition, and a decisive blow is struck by the French Dominion against the British Empire.

For Amanda Cowen, Imposing Knight of the British Scouts, it is a terrible day where she finds that scoring a victory does not win a battle, let alone a war, for which she was not supposed to be on the frontlines.

For nearly twenty years since they've opened, the Gilded Gates of the Infinite Labyrinth have brought power and wonders to the subjects of King George III. Fueled by the resources from the place beyond the Gates, the modern age is in full swing across the British Empire. Crystal marvels adorn the streets of London while Aether-powered Skyships patrol the skies. But today, the Gate slams closed, and the Empire tetters on the brink of destruction.

And so, for six people that were in the wrong place at the wrong time, their life crumble. What replaces it is the endless perspective of being a Professional, acquiring extraordinary Skills, strange Items and seeing their potential grow with each trial. It is up to them to turn misfortune into achievement, to find themselves, and to break the stalemate. Even if no one counts on them, they have to push forward, because now, there is no longer any turning back to their old selves.

They have to find their peers, and break open the barriers.

The Infinite Labyrinth is a litRPG that explores different takes of some themes from my main series, Silvergates. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy and ripe for optimization (I use a spreadsheet and a wiki to give me the details - warning, spoilers if you haven't caught up to the current story chapter).

It started life as a serial. I prepared good worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four or five books, depending on how the story goes.

The publication is going to be irregular, as I'm writing part-time. I'll try to have at least one chapter a week.

The Gore tag was added because there are a few scenes with some light gore.

Vainqueur is now available on Amazon! Book 1, Book 2

Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: a giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time.

So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes," "levels," and "quests," Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change.

After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

Fang is a simple cat.

Fang likes napping in the sun.

Fang does not like being called Chairman Meow.

Fang likes his belly being scratched for precisely 17.329 seconds.

Fang does not like being punted between dimensions.

Fang likes hunting and killing defenseless wildlife.

Fang does not like mysterious blue boxes that appear out of thin air.

Fang is having a Very Bad Day.

A few things to note:

Fang is a cat soul in a cat body, and that's not going to change any time soon. No cat girl evolution or possessed puppet or any of that.

The slice of life tag is there for a reason. There is no epic tale here, only a cat doing cat things in a (hopefully) interesting setting.

The game elements are pretty light, mostly there for flavor, so don't expect a huge amount of crunch.

Nature is cruel, and cats are crueler than most.

Rago didn't have what you would call a good life... Or lives, in his case. For you see, Rago is one of an infinitesimally small number of people that remembers his previous lives.

In his first life, he was a young spartan warrior that was killed for being too weak.

In his second life, he was a young squire in the courts of Camelot that was tragically killed when his master lost control of his horse, and it kicked him in the head.

In his third life, he was a child soldier in Africa that managed to escort a group of children to safety before he was shot in the head by their now ex-captors.

And in his fourth life, he spent his entire life in a hospital bed being treated for a currently incurable auto-immune disease.

... But, that's when things changed. He was suddenly brought before an all-powerful being and given yet another go at life... Let's hope things are different this time.

A new world with nearly unlimited possibilities. A status, classes, magic and monsters. Sounds good? Well, for Ilea it didn't come quite as expected as for some other protagonists, nor was there a king or god to welcome her.

The grand quest? Well, she might figure that out someday but for now, a new world with new food is prize enough. Her fists at the ready, she's prepared to punch and get punched, however long it takes and however many limbs she might have to regrow.

A story I've started writing now quite a while ago. Transported to another world, somewhat standard fantasy setting with my beginner attempts to make it dark but funny. There are Litrpg elements here but I do hope it's not too heavy and annoying. The fights should be interesting and aren't just numbers vs numbers. Contrary to the title the protagonist will be quite an offensive fighter.

Ilea Spears is your average sarcastic kick-boxing fast food worker and soon to be student. She will be transported to another world rather conventionally and will be confronted with survival in the wild.

Give it a shot and let me know what you think. My experience is incredibly lacking. If you find yourself hating it early on, do convey your anger in a detailed comment or review :) I want to get better but without any feedback it's simply quite difficult.

Quick heads up: Around chapter 120 there are a bunch of longer PoV changes that I discontinued again shortly after. The Arc around chapters 150-200 is darker than the rest and the themes shift quite a bit. Just know that it goes back to what you've come to know after that section.

Thank you for reading.

Quick update June 2019: Many complaints regarding the formatting, specifically spacing in conversations and of course the usage of the present tense in the first 36 chapters have been addressed. I'm of course learning by the day but compared to how it was before it should be an improvement at least.

Chapters usually around 3k words

Meet Threadbare. He is twelve inches tall, full of fluff, and really, really bad at being a hero. Magically animated and discarded by his maker as a failed experiment, he is saved by a little girl. But she's got problems of her own, and he might not be able to help her.
Fortunately for the little golem, he's quick to find allies, learn skills, gain levels, and survive horrible predicaments. Which is good, because his creator has a whole lot of enemies...

Warning: This story is supposed to contain a lot of sex, but due to recent rules that Royal Road has decided on without informing anyone, they've started deleting stories that contain too much sex. This story temporarily fell victim to this. Therefore, most sex scenes will be cut out on Royal Road.

Now we've all heard stories about people who died and were born again with their memories intact. The form of the reincarnator changes from story to story: human, elf, orc, slime, vampire, goblin; you name it, someone wrote it. But what if you were reborn in the most common of houshold objects?

What would happen if someone reincarnated as a fork?

Involves: merciless fork jokes, monsters, magic n' all that stuff, some profanity, maybe some gore (i'll keep it light), fork philosophy, and if you got advice on where to go next with the novel, comment, coz I only got a hazy outline.
