Nomads of the Sea

Nomads of the Sea
by Jacob A Zucker
COMPLETED
677 pages

In the Nisi Archipelago, a civil war is festering. Separatist insurgents burn and pillage villages across the islands in an effort to return the Mangaal people to the seas, and to free themselves of their Lyssan overlords.

Sig of the Midandaal, the son of a diplomat, must combat the growing threat. As he stamps down the rebellion, he quickly finds his talent for bloodshed surpassing his talent for peace.

Idalia Goss is attached to the Lyssan company that has been sent to aid the loyalists. The daughter of a renowned physician and arcane scholar, her task is to learn more about the Mangaal mages, who far outstrip the mainland sorcerers.

Back on Lyssa, Bryn Urien the Singed, the Inferno of Mochan Pass, has lost his spark. Once the foremost aethermancer in the royal army, he now finds himself enfeebled and on the run.

Nomads of the Sea is a fantasy epic that spans continents and interweaves countless narratives in a seamless journey that will leave you wanting more.

NOTE: The above synopsis is intentionally written to be as spoiler-free as possible. If you would like a more in-detail synopsis, one that contains minor spoilers, please check out the "Synopsis" chapter at the beginning of this fiction.

If you read and enjoy, please leave a rating or review!

FORMERLY TITLED: THE GLIMMERLING

This story was formerly titled "The Glimmerling", because the first part was a short story of that title; it has since been expanded upon, thus the title change.

Chapters 1-8 (30k words) are the first 'arc', if you want to get a feel for the story.

To give some context on the setting:

Magic is a bit weaker in this story than you might be used to, and we start off following some relatively new magic users. For some perspective, being able to light a campfire with magic is considered relatively advanced for someone who is the age of the main character. Magic can become very powerful - and there are some examples of powerful wizards within this story - but it's not where the main characters are yet. Part of the story is about following them as they learn more about magic. Enemies are also very dangerous, and running, hiding, or trying to talk their way out of a dangerous situation is often a better choice than fighting for the characters.

While I have added tags for traumatizing content, sexuality, violence, swearing, etc. I try to avoid super-explicit descriptions of these things. But they are part of the story.

It has been two hundred years since the first contact with aliens from the planet Proxima Centauri. It has been about one hundred and ninety-eight since the Centurians and humans accidentally connected their computer systems together. That same year Centurian virus took over almost all of humanity's computers. This was right about the time a huge solar flare knocked out all communication on Earth.

Some time between then and now secrets were revealed, like secret societies, where the nukes were being hidden, and, most importantly, that there were Fae, magic beings, living among humanity all this time.

The Proxima Centurians eventually came to the now weakened Earth to 'check on' humanity about fifty years ago. Some say they are here to colonize what's left of the city-states and raiders alike.

But now we focus on a young man who has earned the ire of a Centurian colony and a powerful half-Fae named Jormungrand. This young man has chosen the name for himself as B.

Soldier First will be shifting to a monthly update schedule while I work out some kinks in the plot.

BRS Limited is looking for answers after the genius programmer behind a radical new biotechnology goes on the run with their intellectual property.

After an awkward period of amnesia during a mission in Africa, Butcher is looking for answers of his own. So he reluctantly agrees to let the enigmatic company use him as a test subject while he tracks down the mind behind the technology.  Butcher doesn't really understand this talk of "stats", "skills" and "classes", though, and the deeper her digs, the stranger things become.

Because even as Butcher changes, he realizes that the world around him is also changing in ways that only he can see, but which could have terrifying consequences for the whole planet.

This story is a work in progress and subject to frequent revisions.

Uploading schedule changed to Wednesdays and Sundays! 15-year old Ziyan needs to get the hell into heaven. A yaoguai devoured her fellow villagers and cursed their souls. She can reincarnate them only if she's a goddess. But the snooty gods, with their coveted powers, don't allow just anyone to join them.

To save her people Ziyan enters the Baishi Competition, where she and a sky-full of cutthroat mortals must contend for the few slots of godhood.

But victory won't come easy. First, she needs to convince (seduce) the warrior god Huayu into training her. Then she needs to rack up the kills by hunting yaoguai to prove her worth. Winning would grant Ziyan the reincarnating abilities of a goddess. If she fails, her villagers will fry in hell's oil vats forever.

Ziyan is determined to succeed, until she learns yaoguai are just pawns doing the gods' dirty work. Faced with the true killers of her people (and armed with badass fighting skills), Ziyan asks herself, does she want to save only her villagers or can she overthrow this pantheon of assholes and rescue all those living under the yokes of gods?

The thing is, when it's your destiny, it's your destiny.

POISONED CHALICE is a YA xianxia fantasy based on Chinese mythology and Taoist deities. It contains elements of romance, adventure, and political intrigue.

After fulfilling the duty all arch necromancers are tasked with, Sylver Sezari was not expecting to ever wake up again.

But he did.

And after crawling his way back into the land of the living, he’s alive once again. In a strange land, a strange time, and with a strange floating screen in front of his new face.

Either through plan or chance, he’s alive again, and planning to enjoy himself to his heart's content.

-The story isn’t grimdark, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows either. There will be lighthearted and positive moments, as well as some sad ones. That being said, it’s a whole lot more light than dark.
-This is a LITRPG story.

Chapters are published every 2 days at 21:00 GMT.

Author’s note:
-It can get very GORY. I’m somewhat desensitized to gore and violence. So while the story isn’t full of gore for the sake of gore, it can get a little too descriptive.
-The MC is a necromancer, so corpses and decay, and all the things that come with it, will be mentioned from time to time.
-I’m a huge fan of Egyptian, Slavic, and Greek mythology, so expect quite a bit of that. That said, so much is altered, you’ll be hard-pressed to guess how exactly it is being used.
-Despite being ‘immortal’ the MC can die. In the event he does, the story doesn’t end, simply time skips forward. Which in some cases is going to be worse than just dying.
-I love plot twists, as much as I love red herrings and Chekhov guns. Deus Ex Machina’s not so much.

The island nation of Yashima is in chaos. Armies march to war, pitting cousin against cousin in the fight for power. Sword saints hone their craft in battle, growing more deadly even as the tide of muskets flooding the country make the average soldier ever more dangerous.

One woman towers over the era. Known as the blood-soaked flower of the battlefield, it is said that to see her is to risk madness. To fight her is to die. Some even say she draws her power from the blood of vanquished foes.

Listening to the rumors, I can't help but feel that my plan to secure a comfortable administrative post has somehow gone awry.
