stories with expansive and interesting worldbuilding?
#1
Hello!! I'm looking for any stories on here that have a fascinating immersive world! Full of colorful array of flora and fauna that could make anyone feel a childlike sense of wonder. Stuff with speculative biology and evolution rules too. Just anything with cool and in depth worldbuilding.
I think a good example of what i mean might be Subnautica. Just a planet full of silly alien sea creatures. That's fun. As well as Mystery Flesh Pit and All Tomorrows.
Any genre is fine, sci fi, fantasy, horror, supernatural. Just whatever!!

I got a sci-fi one i'm writing now. I'll like to think the technology is immersive, though a bit nerdy (engineering stuff)
Check it out in my signature.

Perhaps you can tell me what you think? Anyway, the story is in the signature...

The Last Philosopher is a high-fantasy story with heavy-handed attempts at humour.
It revolves around the world of Huom and some of its quirkier inhabitants.
It’s the first book under the subtitle, Nothing is Everything.

"If our rains never return" has wood that behaves like metal when heated, babies that fall from the sky, raven- parrots and god-forsaken abominations descended from the inhabitants of the only city in the world.

Every author put weeks into their world building, so I'm nothing special there. I feel like it's rich, but the reader has to be the judge of that.
So this is something you'd have to judge on your own.
Points I can promise:
Stuff with speculative biology and evolution rules: Check. (You'll start seeing light hints for that around chapter 12, and heavier hints at 40-50)
In depth worldbuilding: Check. (This you'll see from chapter 1)
Multiple fictional languages: Check.
Magical subnautica experience is very far in the future in my work, you won't see it years from now. I barely just started uploading my work, so I won't use that card.
Child-like wonder and cool is a subjective matter that changes from person to person, can't make a comment on it.
I would second the "Wandering Inn" recommendation made above, that's one long gem. If you get past the first few chapters, it's quite the experience. I started reading it less than a year ago and finished around not too long ago, still fresh in my mind.

My story Glavas, hunter for hire has moments of fantasy world-building with crazy (and sometimes terrifying) creatures and places, as well as different cultures. Still, the narrative is the priority, so there's only some amount of world-building per chapter. But if it sounds interesting to you, check it out. Link in the signature. :)

Honestly? The Wandering Inn is amazing.
It has much better worldbuilding than I've personally expected to see when I first started reading it. You should totally check it out.

I just found God of Discovery and been loving their unique magic system and history of the world. The author seems consistent too on posting for the past month.
