I just started my voyage today, and I'm considering splitting it into two chapters.
2, 5,500 words, as I usually write lengthy chapters. How do you feel? Should I or shouldn't I?

Generally, splitting so that you don't go over like 3k words is a good idea. It's better to spread out your releases more rather than dumping a huge amount of content into one chapter release that appears on the front page of RoyalRoad for <10 minutes.

2k is considered the ideal chapter length on Royal Road. There's a couple of reasons for that.
1: It's easier on the reader. Unlike most ereaders, RR doesn't save your in chapter progress. If your reader stops halfway through an 11k chapter, it may be hard for them to figure out where they were.
2: dividing it into smaller chapters and spreading their release date out over time puts you on the recently updated list and keeps you there for longer. This is a very important tool in getting your story noticed.
There's probably other reasons too, but those are the most important. I had the same problem when I first joined. Some of my chapters are still quite long....

To do as I say and not as I do, fiction like this benefit more from smaller chapters that release more often. If you can split them into 2k word chapters that'd be better than anything over 3k. I'll mostly be repeating previous suggestions and argument points though.

Is there a reason not to do even smaller chapters? I found myself naturally diving story into ~650 world chunks

For most story types, I would guess that some readers would be annoyed if they had to load a new page after every 650 words. It's probably not a big deal, though.

While I do agree with what everyone said up to this point.
The story will appear on RR for more than 10 minutes, if you publish more chapters.
It will be easier for people to read because RR doesn't save the last point in which you stopped reading.
But at the same time, I kinda do the exact opposite.
Write in your own pace, and make sure that the chapters are whole, so that if the chapters need to be 5k, let it be 5k words. Or if you can and want to have a better rate to attract readers, make sure that the chapters are whole and interesting, only in 2k words.
In the end of the day it's your story.
