Howdy friends. I'm just starting my serious journey on RR to try out some new genres for me. I've written for the comic book SPAWN, and write fiction fairly regularly now for BattleTech. I've got nine traditional novels behind me, but I think RR and sites like it are going to be better for me and for my readers. Thank you all for being here!

I’m also a traditionally published author and professional screenwriter. RR is a great community and a great place to try out off-genre projects pseudonymously (as I’m doing). I will give you fair warning: RR tastes are very particular. What does well here does not do well in traditional publishing, and vice versa. Further, RR is a true democracy, and the readers have all the control over what does and doesn’t succeed. This can be a little jarring for those of us used to the assistance of marketing campaigns and editorial departments. Running your own ads does relatively little to garner attention, and unless you’re writing a very standard progression/gamelit genre, it might take awhile to gain readers. That’s not to say it isn’t worth it. I love it here, and will continue to post novels that are too divergent from the ones I write for a living, if for no other reason than to share them with engaged and engaging readers. Just sharing my experience.

I would build on what Max Lake Enix said above. This place is a bloodbath. The level of competition is incredibly fierce, since there are so many amazing writers, and you are the master of your own destiny to a large extent. I think that is why the forums are so friendly, since it is mostly writers, and we all feel the struggle and have sympathy for other writers.
