Adding LitRPG to titles
#1
Hi, I'm thinking of adding more to my story title because I seem to notice that a lot of popular stories have LitRPG in the name when they are in that genre. I wanted to ask if people really appreciate that though. not only that but what would I even call mine besides a litRPG, a progression litRPG? Fantasy litRPG.

Hey. I saw a huge boost in average daily views when I started adding my genre to the title [Antihero action/slice of life]. It lets people make a quicker decision about your story so they're more likely to click on it. From your title and cover, my first guess would be supernatural mystery, which doesn't really appeal to me, but if I saw litrpg, I'd be more likely to click since I enjoy those more.

Add : A Reaper LitRPG
Same concept. Gives them the premise and genre in one go, makes them more likely to click

One fish, Two fish, Red fish, Blue fish
Black fish, Blue fish, Old fish, New fish.
This one has a little car.
This one has a little star.
Say! What a lot of fish there are.
Yes. Some are red, and some are blue.
Some are old and some are new.
Some are sad, and some are glad,
And some are very, very bad.
Why are they sad and glad and bad?
I do not know, go ask your dad.

From what I have seen reading around, a certain kind of reader freaks out if they see LitRpg but no blue boxes in the first chapters. So make sure to give them their fix when you know you are dealing with crazies.

It's the same kind of reason why a lot of Japanese light novels and anime these days have those lengthy titles.
It's because they started out as webnovels and title is one of the biggest things people look at, so being descriptive is better.

I have to wonder how much or how little is needed to qualify as a LitRPG. Is just having a system in world enough, or do you have to have your blue boxes? I have a system in the world but no stats, and a bare minimum of anyone actually looking at their overlay. Mostly because they don't need to look very often other than when they gain access to something new. I am guessing this will qualify as a LitRPG, but honestly i have no idea if people are going to feel bamboozled by the tag.

Just want to note that somewhat on a whim after seeing all these posts, I added more descriptive tags to my not-a-litRPG's title right before my last chapter release and did notice a significant uptick in views. I think in my case it's particularly helpful because my story is a portal fantasy which shares a tag with isekai, so people who don't like isekai can now see that mine is not one. I think it's also helpful for a story that's written with a particularly niche or unusual style, like my friend's light novel, so it helps with reader expectations. I observed a number of people on the "important" lists have these tags so it doesn't hurt to try it and see what happens.

It's unsightly and annoying, renders the whole tag system meaningless, and I wish the admins did something before it gets even worse. Your title should describe the story, not be a list of buzzwords desperate for clicks.

That's because readers will ignore tags if title didn't caught them in first place. On top of that Latest Updated has disabled descriptions for some unholy reason, which is additional reason for Japanese title syndrome.

It's unsightly, yeah, but it works (because the Tags don't show up in most places, and people dont click EXPAND to see the full list of them)
