Where to Link Donations Other Than PayPal/Patreon
#1
Hey.
So I might be posting a story on here, but if I'm going to do that, I'd want to link a donations page. The trouble is, uh... I don't want to use either of the platforms Royal Road lets you link directly on your fiction pages, because I don't like how those companies have been run lately (especially PayPal). Is there somewhere else you can post a link to some other donation platform where people would see it and actually click on it? This could actually be a deal-breaker for me.
P.S.
Provided that there's a good answer to the above, do you have any suggestions for a good platform to use? I saw another thread mention Ko-Fi and Buy-Me-A-Coffee.

I am also interested in another options for monetization. However, take into account people dont donate to patreon out of the kindness of their hearts: they want the benefits promised in exchange. Ideally, you want another platform that lets you offer content in some form. OnlyFans is technically an option but the IMPLICATIONS due to the direction it took are... well... you know.

I ignore all the rumored drama. No one clicks on 'things normal, everyone happy', and I find that when I read stories about a lot of the drama, there is little hard fact and tons of rumor and suspicions. Whatever the latest drama for Patreon was, it doesn't affect me. What does affect me is other sites being able to take money, but not give me the platform needed to offer content and interact.
And take into account that your donaters might not want to use a paysite they aren't familiar with.

I specifically do not donate thru Patreon. I do however use Ko-Fi. You just put it in your author's notes with a link. Remind people that it is not a membership, but every bit helps and makes it easier to keep writing. Maybe you don't get as much money as Patreon, but then you also don't have to give traffic to a company you don't like.

People dislike a company for their own reasons. And dislike for the same company can be for lots of different reasons. If your approval of a person is based on their approval of a specific company then I am not sure they are going to care about your opinions about them. It seems a really strange thing to hate someone over. As far as the question asked, does it matter why they don't want to use Patreon? They are looking for alternatives, not to be called names because they don't like a payment platform.

Are donation links/pages known to be secure?
Any issues there?
Would like to link my PayPal but have no idea how, or if I should.

Find your paypal.me page It's hidden in the deaphs of paypal, log in and hunt for it. They hide it well. I can't even remember how I found it.
Found it twice, so it isn't super hard but they do hide it. It's in a weird spot if I remember corectly.
Now I know of Ko-Fi! Made a new tab and will check it out tomorw morning. Imop readers deserve to have many options.

Thank you. I am just seeing your reply.
I was more or less asking if anyone has had issues with security involving linking their PayPal acct. But, thank you for your advice. It was very helpful.

People overwhelmingly prefer patreon over paypal when it comes to RR, I know that much. I don't ever see Ko-Fi listed as an option, whether in the author notes or otherwise. So I have no idea how willing people are to use it. I'm sure people will prefer it less than patreon, but it might do a little better than paypal.
Honestly, while I admire sticking to one's convictions, not using patreon is just going to hurt yourself. Not them. I have no idea about their controversies. But even if the every single author on RR stopped using them, they aren't going to care or even notice. Might as well refuse to use the internet because you won't consort with Verizon.
