Is my cover any good?
#1
I have been posting my first fiction, and its been doing well, I think. However, I don't really know what to expect on here. I'm a RR noob.
I just made this cover myself, but I am not a skilled graphic designer and have no experience designing a book cover.
What do you all think? Does it stand out? Do you want to click on it? Or should I perhaps look into something else?
Thanks!!

It is quite unique, and it does catch my eye every time I see it on your signature. The combination of bright colors and a very recognizable shape in the middle does do a lot for that.

I just see all these cool covers with real, fancy artwork on it, and I wonder if I should go in that direction. It's nice to know you felt like it stood out.

It should.
It has bright contrasting colours to catch attention.
My friend tried this, and she received fewer views with the cover comprising mostly text than with cover with mostly just graphic text.
Though, on the other hand, HD pictures with no text, or proper cover with HD pictures don't work as well here as they would work on the cover of conventional novel, since you always see the cover in miniaturized versions and highly detailed drawing are lost to them.
In your case, instead of changing cover, I would try making the larger banner to use on forums.

Thanks, I'll look into making a larger banner!

Pros: good color and contrast from the yellow against the black
Cons: even with the title does not tell me what the story is or is about.
General thoughts
Atoms on the front, so my first thought is scifi, with the trees and forest meaning its probably on earth or at least a pretty typical planet, probably with some future tech, maybe colonization because of the elephants. I probably wouldnt click.
The blurb says its more about an almost paranormal fantasy isekai. I['m assuming its not litrpg but rather homesteading, and doesnt really seem related to the cover. If I did click the cover for the scifi above, the blurb would likely make me not read it since its a very dif narrative promise than what I clicked for

I'd say it is "Island in the Sea of Time"
While "Island in the Sea of Time" is technically Portal Fantasy (thus Isekai)
But neither of those works is very paranormal.
So I dont know... I clicked because the link out of Reddit

Your cover does indeed stand out, and is unique among most posted. It follows both the Rule of Thirds and the Diagonal Line, which will draw readers ro it.
That said, the colors could be brighter. Easiet of them to fix would be a more shocking shade of yellow, but there's no reason why the trees could not be green, or the electrons of the atom be a different color, or the mastodons or the text.
Another easy fix for you would be to post your name in a larger font, as it's rather small. A second option here would be to place above your name the phrase 'Part One of TEXAS ACCELERATED' as you say that's what the subtitle of the book is in your blurb.
And Texas Accelerated is a pretty cool title. Perhaps you could place as the nucleus of the atom an image of Earth, or an outline of the state of Texas.
That also would be pretty cool. 🦊

It looks good. It could almost pass as a professional cover, though you'd probably need a different font at the bottom for that, but otherwise, it's pretty damn close.
However, note that every genre has its own style for covers, and those styles indicate certain expectations to the readers. To me, yours suggests sci-fi techno-thriller, or like something Michael Crichton might have written. If neither of those match your genre, you might want to take that into consideration, because you might not be pulling in your target audience.

Maybe less techno but still close. Appreciate it. I’ve made some slight alterations to it now based on feedback.
