I also schedule out ahead, but it's a wash as to what times are better. I played around a little bit until I settled.

Afternoon in English-speaking countries work best (in theory) because that's when most your readers are online. But the more popular times for reading, are also, for your own reasons, the most popular time for posting, so posting at the height of those times also means less front-time for your cover on the home page. This is how it balances itself and where the "wash" comes in.

Post at the most convenient/popular time, and you'll get all of five minutes on the front page. Post in the more obscure times and get 30-45 minutes, maybe an hour, but less views per minute.

I suspect it probably evens out, but we don't get the numbers on this.

Early, early afternoon PST/mid-afternoon EST seems to do alright so far.

In my (limited) experience, there is no real good time to post. If you post when a lot of people are on the website then you will be competing with more authors, so you won't stay long in the latest updates. If you post in downtime you won't get as many viewers quickly, but you will be visible for a longer period of time.
POsting at the same hour all the time is good, that way readers will know when to check your new updates, and it develops brand loyalty in readers. Posting at different times is also good, since you will have a reach across multiple time zones, bringing yourself more viewers.
The only real advice I can give you is to avoid scheduling your posts at the hour mark. A lot of people like round numbers, so if you post one minute after the hour, you won't be pushed out by that deluge of new chapters.

I just post whenever I feel the chapter is ready, and then sit back and wave goodbye at my story as it goes through its weekly and extremely short appearance on the latest updates list.
On a more serious note, though, my best record (so far) out of three updates posted at three different hours is 10 minutes last Friday, which fell into approximately mid-afternoon in USA central time.

I would never bother trying to find the perfect time, but I would assume it is just slightly before all the really popular authors. I remember a while back several of the big ones who I followed posted around lunch on tuesdays or something like that. I always figured that, if you write something similar, the best posting time would be about half an hour before that, because their most hardcore fans will most definitely be refreshing the front page waiting for it to drop.
