Re: Any Other Authors Who Have Lost Their Love of Reading While Writing?

I keep myself from reading other works while writing in fear I may take ideas or content from that of which I’m reading. While almost nothing anyone writes is “unique” I would rather keep things naturally flowing through my head then thinking I have to force something to happen because a book I read did it better.

No, on the contrary. I got back to reading when I got back to writing.

I actually started writing because I got tired of reading, and I found that reading feels more fun. I used to spend my entire day reading, and writing now gives me a break that I need from the many books I've been reading simultaneously.

To echo others it’s not that I lost my love, it’s that I lost my time lol. Writing and having a full time job will do that to you. Nowadays, at least, I make sure I read something every day, even if just a chapter.

I've actually been feeling somewhat of the opposite effect these days. The desire to and act of writing have put me very much in a mindset where I want to do "market research", so to speak.
Looking into how others pace themselves, how they characterize, what concepts they put at the forefront of their worlds...when I'm in a worldbuilding frame of mind, I love reading other people's works just to experience that kind of thing. And of course, having a cool plot and characters helps.
