Is it your ability to create vivid worlds? 

Memorable Characters? 

Both? 

The feeling of immense satisfaction for grinding out an entire novel from start to finish? 

All of the above? 


I feel for me, it's a mixture of everything I mentioned but also that feeling when someone (or a group of people) comment positively on your novel and are genuine fans of your creation. I find interaction with fans to be a humbling experience. 

To me, the most exciting thing is the moment of connection with a reader.

Whether someone is angry or delighted, laughing or disgusted, the idea that the power of your words can move another human being is both heady and humbling. When I look at my own life, I can see a lot of deeply-held convictions that were crystallized through things I read. Sometimes, authors were the first to present an idea to me, other times they were the first to articulate or exemplify something I believed but didn't understand.

I strive for that.

There's so much to say here and I agree with what's been posted above.

But I think chiefly for me it's the act of creation itself. Engaging all of the senses and just entering a realm where anything could be possible is both intrinsically enlivening and refreshing.

It can also be a grind, of course. But it's more than worth it for those moments when I am able to enter a greater sense of flow and connection.

Nothing. Writing is exciting, so that's being a writer. As for being an author, publishing your written fiction under a pen name, it's a chore and a stressful event. 

Dying inside every time I finish a chapter, and then dying even more when I have to go back over it to edit it.

But it's all worth it in the end. Because I am a god who creates worlds with fragments of my soul.

(To those who think I'm being overly dramatic, yeah, I am. I have to edit a 3k chapter tonight if I want to keep up with my upload schedule, and my brain is refusing to English)

For me, it’s knowing that people enjoy reading about my characters as much as I enjoy writing about them.

Being able to create, express me, and to be able to inform people of societal injustice, societal values, and morals.

Reality can be whatever I want.

Being able to create and explore new worlds at a whim.
Watching someone read through something I wrote and get exactly what I intended.  

Sharing my creation with others.  There's a story in my mind that I want to get down on paper to show others.  It's quite a fun and exciting experience.  :)

It's a tie between "act of creation" and "satisfaction with the result".  Right under that comes "readers enjoying your work".

The ability to not do the housework, yet feel like I've accomplished something. ❤😼🐉😸❤

The satisfaction I get from having made a story no one else has.

Definitely creation part comes first. Although, it has been more like an exploration lately. In a world that you create, you always keep finding new possibilities and that's like an explorer discovering fresh paths to an entirely hidden wonderland.

This is always very nice, but most of my excitement comes from simply wanting to write a really great story and to experience it, because I tell myself stories, and attempting to achieve that as best as I can is a big driver.

For me, it's the characters. I create the world, the characters, and then as I write, I get atatched to them, like they are real. Then there are the readers making connections with characters, or just telling me how much they like so and so. Also, completing something like a novel just makes me feel all happy inside. :) Unless it's the last book in the series, then I'm happy and sad at the same time.

Worldbuilding for sure! That and seeing how my characters interact with the world I've build around them. It's almost as good as living in the world myself with how deep I go into worldbuilding (almost)
