Software/App for keeping track of story notes
#1
For the longest time I’ve used notebooks to keep track of my story notes (like plot, character, maps, etc). But i want to venture into the realm of LitRPG writing, and I have very quickly realised that I need some sort of system to keep track of all the skills, classes, power-ups etc.
Are there any free software (other than Microsoft Excel lol) you would recommend for this purpose?

Like Zach Skye mentioned, Google Spreadhseets/Sheets is a good tool to use for anything regarding numbers and a complex weaving of abilities/powers/spells. I've used it for all sorts of things and have found its really easy to format pretty much any way you want. There's colour coding and you can move things around and readjust as needed. It's pretty useful.

I use google sheets for mine, a lot of automation, colour-coding, and the like.

Huh, I'm surprised there's nothing more specialized than google sheets, but that's fair enough.
Guess I'll just stick with excel, since that's what I'm most familiar with.

I'm not sure about free softwares, but Scrivener is fairly cheap as far as writing programs go and is very good for organizing notes.

I’ve heard that an app called obsidian is supposed to do this, but for litrpg specifically I’d still recommend excel or librecalc.

Googledocs.
They are wonky sometimes, but ooooh so useful.

Can try wavemaker. It's free and like a simpler version of most paid writing software. I'm too much of a caveman to understand googledocs, but I found wavemaker easy to use.

There's also a lot of tools on D&D Beyond for DM to manage their campaigns, Maybe it can be useful but I don't know at what point it could be customable of free.

I currently use a mix of yWriter (another free novel writing software), LibreOffice Writer, OneNote, and my phone's notes app.
