How many different stories do you work on at at time?
#1
I find myself constantly thinking about fiction. Probably too much. I often stumble upon a story concept that I think could make for a hell of an entertaining story, but I can't seem to justify working on it while also working on the other series I have already started and published first.
So tell me, authors. How many different projects do you work on at once? One? Two? Ten? If you do manage to work on a bunch at a time, how do you make time for all of them?

I rotate between three, with the occasional short story as a fourth if I see a good prompt. And then, of course, the Writathon story twice a year...
Full-length: Big Red Button, Reincarnated as a Catgirl, VINES
Shorts: The Murder of Lady Emiliana, Thunderstorm, Rule of 3, Sun Song, Felix the Unknown, Fireworks, House Meeting, World Domination, The Storm, Seeker, Simple Life, The Void Fox, Vending Machine, The Bridge, Squirrel Uprising, Cheater's Play, Quoth the Catto, Hope, Gronk the Wyvern, Listen, Nekomancer
Guides: CYOA's, ConLangs, Piracy

I definitely can't manage more than one. I might scribble the ideas for a different story here and there, but I wouldn't start writing it in earnest until the current project is either done or abandoned.

I write on three. I only "work" on one.
One is my main production, another I touch only when inspired and want to polish it like a magnum opus.
Finally, I have the mirror of my main work. A place to decompress and explore all the tones that don't fit the tone of what I'm working on.
I can see where someone could get good at bouncing between two complimentary stories. Mostly serious and grim VS. mostly light and fun. Or whatever difference resonates with that author.

How many do I work on? Far more than I should.
Will I ever finish any? Probably not.

I'm actively working on three projects, with a fourth that is passively being "worked on" in the background. And I think that's somehow good for me, because as it is now I have three main sites I post my stories to. And each site likes all of those stories to differing degrees. Specifically, I Got A Rock is popular here and elsewhere while Guardian's Folly, Dryad's Melancholy is popular on another site. Between Mountains and Moons is cursed to sit at the number 2 spot on 2 separate sites behind two separate stories while dead last on that third site.
I guess the main benefit is that if I start a new story and it ends up being a dud, it's not the only one I'm working on. I plan to finish all of them, but it gets hard working through a story when there's either zero reaction or negative reactions.

One and I feel like I don't even have too much time to do it justice. Although there is the occassional sideproject that goes into the sin bin or some spark that births a few thousand words of short story rambling.
