Which cover would you be more inclined to click on?
#1
Hey!
After receiving some feedback on my original cover, I've made some changes. (I should note, the feedback I received was mostly good, but the critical feedback made a ton of sense given how small the covers are on the site).
So, the original cover was:
I love this cover! But the artwork is often blurred away when scrolling through the front page, and a few people said it gave off a more horror-y vibe. So, feel free to give your feedback there.
The NEW cover is:
It is still rough around the edges (such as the smoke not quite blending in with the character perfectly), so don't mind those things but I felt this one felt more genre appropriate (high fantasy).
Which would you be more inclined to click on? ALSO, disregarding clicks, which one do you like better?
Thanks! :)

The first one, the first tells me (just from cover) that it is a story of exploration and wonder, perhaps coming of age.
The second one speaks to me of a more common type of fantasy, one which I hath read too much of and find myself averse to at this moment.
Haven't read your books so can't truly say if my conclusions are correct, but this is my take on the covers

I like the first one more as art, though the text is a bit blurred. There is some kind of fog over it and the lettering can be very thin in places, which makes it hard to read.
The second one is more thematically classical high fantasy, so if that's the crowd you want to attract it should work better.
I would put the model in the centre or more in frame if possible, though. She's too cut off, which makes her appear small. If I saw that on a thumbnail I wouldn't register it as a person immediately. The author's name is barely visible as well. I would try a bolder font, maybe in white, with some kind of emboss and drop shadow.

#6the first one's colour scheme and font are really freaking sweet
if you applied those to number two that would be neat

I can see why the edges might give off a horror vibe, but the first one still captures my attention more than the second one does. The colors are amazing, and the items that make the cover are less used (and therefore more intriguing). Best of everything with the cover choice!
Shoutout to coffee, wi-fi, & ambition! (Nothing would be done otherwise.)

The first. I am a sucker for colors and the second one is just gray-gloom and depression.

The first feels very 'fantasy' while the second feels 'dark, broken'. Without knowing the details of your story, I can't say which would fit it better. From a personal preference, I'd click on the first.
From an aesthetic perspective, the second could use some work. The creature thing in the background doesn't feel fully integrated with the rest of the cover and seems a bit pasted on, and being positioned in competition with the text doesn't help. It took me several tries to even puzzle out what it was.

Both are really cool! I'm partial to the first one myself. The colors and art are beautiful! I think the issue with the text could be remedied by making it bigger and maybe choosing a different font for it to look clearer in a smaller thumbnail.
That being said, if you're happy with the second one (which certainly has all of the requirements - clear text and cool art), then you should choose the one you're most happy with!

I'd be more likely to click on the first cover. I think it does a better job of conveying what your story is about. I personally don't see horror when I look at the first cover. The second cover, although well done, seems a little too dark (in tone and color) for the story.

The first cover.
The second one reminds me of all the self-published fantasy covers I run into while searching for a book. Except very gray. They have no personality and all look the same. Another cover with a woman in a hood. I would probably look right over it and move on to another book that might look promising.
The first one is just attractive because of the look of contrasting color and detailed boarder. I can't say that I get a horror vibe from the first. However, it does need a little work. The letters look as if it's been position behind the fog making it look washed out. I don't know if that can be corrected, but is should be positioned above it. Other than that, the boarder. That might be where the horror vibe comes from. However, that seems a little better than generic dragon and woman in a hood.

I just wanted to chime in to say I've actually spotted your first cover while scrolling the site before, and I think it's fabulous! It's not that it was particularly easy to read, but it definitely caught my eye compared to the others on the same page. I think it's the colors. They really pop. And I don't see many on the site with elaborate border art. It's unique.

Hey everybody!
Thank you for all the input. I am testing out the second cover for my next update to see how many clicks it earns, but I definitely agree that the original cover is far better, just on an artistic level.
You all are awesome <3 :)

Reviving the thread after adding this image... I think I prefer it over the black and gray one, and it's more visible than the original artwork on the RR homepage (on top of it fitting the genre more closely). What do you think?

First one. It's less generic (in sense of being like many covers I've seen) and has a certain style to it. More eye catching contrast too.
