As nanowrimo is approaching in about half a month, I wonder if anyone here is planning to participate in it? I've also heard that RR has a similar event, a writathon, but will that coincide with nanowrimo as well?

Will the writathon be at the same time, starting at November 1st as well? I just googled up one of the earlier writathons and it looked interesting.

The National Novel Writing Month, where you write a novel of at least 50k words during November. It's a kinda big event for the writing communities I'm part of and international by now.

A well, starting a day later or earlier for one of the events does not really matter that much. But I guess I'll participate with a German original then. Or is it fixed for English fictions?

National Novel Writing Month. Always annoying when people just assume you know or should know what an acronym stands for.

I don't know for sure, but I think non-English novels will still be ok. The rules, as far as I know, only require writing 50k words in a month, so... hey, why not?

• GoT = Game of Tomes, where a community of Twitch writers collect word counts to see which one of six houses can survive the undead horde. 
• NaNoWriMo = National Novel Writing Month, where the main goal is to write 1,667 words per day and finish a novel at 50 by midnight the last day of Nov.
• 4TW event = 4thewords (an RPG for writers) has a huge event during November, with gear to collect, quests to complete, and special creatures to defeat 

 
NaNoWriMo I know of (I was a municipal leader in Tokyo) and they have a YWP (Young Writer's Program), but I haven't heard of the YWA.

Definitely gonna aim for doing NaNo this year. Not gonna do a whole separate novel for it, I'm just gonna use it as an excuse to get my word count up on Record of Lundeir's chapter drafts cause I might actually be able to finish writing all the first drafts by the end of the year. Maybe. Possibly.

Sounds interesting. On Belletristica, another German writing platform, we have the Winter Invasion, where the community has to fight off hordes of demons and undead, by writing collectively, commenting on chapters, and typing in the chat room, all with rewards and stuff, as gamification is a big factor there.

The YWP (Young Writers Program) is mainly for students still in school (elementary-high) since many of them find writing 50k in one month to be difficult (or just straight up impossible). The YWP has them think about what would be challenging for them, helps them track it, teachers more about plotting, outlining, character development, etc. and is a lower-powered month of NaNo. The goal is set by the adult/teacher + the student, and can be 10k, 20k, or another number that is better suited for them. 

My friend uses the YWP at her school in Japan to get her students writing in English, and they LOVE being a part of NaNoWriMo. I have another friend who teaches in the USA and she's using the YWP. Her deal with her kids is that for every 100 words her kids write, she has to write 1,000 words. Another one of my friends used the YWP to get everyone in the household (seven kids in total) to help dad write (if they were writing, he was able to concentrate). And I'm sure there are a lot of other ways it can be used.

No, you can't.

I plan to write a whole new book there, and already have the general plot outline written. Though it will be slightly longer than 50k, I dunno if I can finish in time, but it doesn't matter, events like that are about trying not winning.

Some communities count people as rebels if they deviate from the rules. So people could even continue their novels during NaNoWriMo.
And you're right. Trying is all that matters!

I'm prepared as well. The plot stands, next up I'll flesh out the characters and I'll return to adapting the plot when I know them better. It will be the successor to "Wave", which I'm currently translating for RR. Atm, I'm already getting into the right mood with the #InstaWrimo challenge on Instagram.

The WikiWriMo is where most of this stuff has been tucked away. Here's the page for Rebels during NaNo. When NaNoWriMo began the option of being a rebel didn't exist, it was write 50k of a brand new book or don't. Now, though, one of the badges you can claim in the Personal Achievement Badges section (if you set up an account, project, etc.) during NaNoWriMo is a Rebel Badge, so the option of rebelling has been placed there by the developers of the site. [Edit: I have no idea when that badge appeared... maybe in the last couple of years?]
