Most of mine come to me at 3am when I'm trying to sleep, or right in the middle of a tasks I can't pause like doing dishes.

My best writting, or my best ideas, usually comes from anger. I mean looking back, subconsciously, I'm pretty sure I wrote After the Tilt as a way to express my anger towards the university system and the academic ivory tower.
Otherwise, I can always find inspiration while sitting in front of a campfire early in the morning before anyone else wakes up.

Things seem to erupt out of my brain when in the shower or driving to work.

Watching any of Anthony Bourdain’s travel-based food shows. I love world-building and writing about food, so getting glimpses into different cultures and culinary styles and hearing Anthony’s take on their history and what it’s like to be there always sparks ideas for me.

I get ideas from all over the place, but one place I didn’t expect to get so many ideas was: boring classes. If I’m bored in class I find that just enough of my mind is forced to follow along that it frees up another part of my brain which, I dunno, I guess it attempts to ‘fix’ the boring input by turning it into a fantasy idea? I definitely have a few ideas from a tedious linguistics lecture I had to take, and a couple from a class I took on fractal geometry, etc.

When I'm thinking about story ideas I usually get it from just in my car or procrastinating at home because is nothing else to do.

Some of my craziest ideas started from watching a hentai and devolved from there. Like a little system based off recording porn and streaming it to other gamers. I had it after watching residence which has nothing to do with my idea anymore.

There's some well-known psychological research that people often get their most creative ideas when their minds are refreshed and their emotional state is relaxed. These two factors together create a potent combination --
(1) Your mind is most refreshed in the morning, while the later in the day you go the more tired it becomes.
(2) You're most relaxed when doing something that your body finds calming/comforting, while helping you alleviate day-to-day stress. Best examples including taking a walk or taking a shower.
Unsurprisingly, large number of people report that they often receive their most creative ideas while taking a shower in the morning.
