Re: Epic Fantasy - LOTR style

I am looking for epic fantasy stories with wide scope and which are similar (in terms of style or scope of worldbuilding, not of story) to LOTR. They do not necessarily have to be in Western setting; I am alright with Eastern setting too.
I would prefer stories that do not have have any stats/gaming system. Also my preference is for stories whose characters have some greater motivation than "becoming top fighter/swordsman/etch". Last but not least, my preference is for the story to not have harem.

If self-promotion is acceptable, my story The Eagle's Flight fits reasonably well. Detailed world-building with historical realism across various cultures, and characters generally engaged in political schemes or wars. Link in my signature.

The Ogre's Pendant sounds like exactly what you're looking for. It's written in old school fantasy prose so if you like Tolkien, Eddings, Williams, Jordan, etc style fantasy you'll probably like this

Seeing that the author of The Eagle’s Flight has already recommended his own story (and rightly so), I’ll merely submit my own work for your consideration, albeit with the caveat that it leans more toward alternate history than fantasy. If that doesn’t deter you from giving it a shot, it can be found here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/36157/selenas-reign-the-golden-gryphon

I'll recommend Daybreak on Hyperion for you then. It's basically a epic fantasy that's written to explore on how magic would impact our own history, featuring politics and war across multiple nations which you can tell from its map.
And like LOTR it also starts off in a more laid-back beginning, with a main character that's lacking strength themselves but certainly not lacking character.

A Practical Guide to Evil - one of the best web fictions around, the story and character work are amazing, while the worldbuilding is extremely detailed. Totally reccomend trying it!

I'll second A Practical Guide to Evil, and also recommend Re:Monarch. The latter is a timeloop story similar to Mother of Learning, but the world is much more "classic fantasy" with elves, dwarves, etc.

Hi! I humbly invite you to check out my BL/gay epic fantasy fiction based on Hindu mythology. However, please keep in mind, this is the first draft and I am a new writer. So, please keep your expectations super duper low.
But if you are intrigued, please do check out.

For an epic fantasy story, a surprising one is Mycology, it's a VRMMO story but the vr world is epic fantasy and is very well world built. The only problem is that the story takes a while to get to the actual vr world.
