Re: For readers: Ratings cutoff

As someone with a story and the general analytics, I can see when people get to my story by searching, including those who search with a ratings cutoff. The most common ratings cutoff I've seen has been 4 stars, though it's also not uncommon to see values ranging up to 4.5. The highest cutoff I've seen has been 4.6; but I suppose it could be higher, I'd just never see those because my story doesn't have that high a ranking. (In fact it has since dropped beneath 4.6 stars, so the person who found it by filtering for that rating wouldn't find it now.)

I never pay attention to the ratings on new novels. On the ones that've been going for a while, I read the blurb first. If the blurb is interesting I read up to the first five chapters. If I have to choose between two novels with very similar blurbs, I'll take a look at the one with the highest rating first.

I've picked most f my reading material either through recommendations, the recently updated list, or trending.
