Guys, can I write an extra for writathon e.g. my characters but set in modern time like one shot extra chapter? Thanks!

As long as all your writeathon words are in the same project and don't break the rules of participation, it doesn't matter what you write. I'm pretty sure you could write a collection of short stories or a novel or anything else and be fine. :)

Bonus chapters or AU interludes shouldn't be a problem at all, afaik. ;)
