Re: Rank Drop without Reviews or Ratings?

Sure, I've been watching my story drop slowly a few places here and there whenever I get a new ranking.

This time I dropped a 100+ places overnight though, which usually only happens if someone drops me a .5 * rating or something but that doesn't appear to have happened. In fact my star rating is the same.

I have a hard time imagining 100 stories jumped above mine in one day. I've been on here for almost 5 months and I've never seen that big of a change in ranking without a rating or review behind it, that's why I'm curious.

As more new work gets shoveled onto what most publishers call the slush pile, and begin receiving new reads and inevitably, votes and reviews, Rank shuffles to accommodate the changes. Older works formerly holding pat based on their average rates of reads and reviews,  will often take new places in the hierarchy. Some, might go up in rank still, if their rates are upwardly accelerating, but they will change. Newer works can expect more review activity, because the material is new, and a lot of readers want to be "first" to assess the work. The dynamics are many, and ultimately, do not accurately reflect the numbers of readers a work attracts over time.  That being the case, I would not worry about Rank very much.  It is an amalgam, weighted number that tries to mix popularity, assessed quality, and other things together.  While high rank is awarded with better site visibility, a back log of readers, word of mouth and the eventual position achieved on other lists can compensate for this.  Also, new released chapters continue to take high exposure positions at least temporarily on the Latest updates listings.  Point is, its the read count that matters, given the pool  size of people who look to the type of thing you write and come here. Rank, meh, its a catch all across all the different genres lumped together, which amounts to partially just noting that more readers here follow say, Manga/ Isekai than Sf.

This points at another thing to remember. Not all readers in the pool are here for the beer. Some read Fantasy, some SF, some LitRPG, some a mix, etc. Your total probable audience is not the same size for every Genre. if you are read by say half the pool of 4,000 people who specifically come here for Sports Epics, that would be 2000 average reads, which would be a fantastic win.  A comprable to LOR win in the commercial fiction market, were it Epic Fantasy.  So stay sane, dont worry, be happy.

Nope, my star rating hasn't changed, just the my actual ranking number. So I have the same stars (4.41) but my rating dropped from 1380 to 1500.

Like I've said, I've seen my ranking fluctuate up and down, but never such a big change without a corresponding change in my star rating.

Followers also affect your score in my experience. Maybe you lost a follower or two?

Actually I've gained two! It doesn't make any sense.

For a while, my star rating hasn't changed neither has my followers count, but my rank number changes all the time. Uppies and downers. I think someone's already said it above me but I just think it's because more works are being added/are having something that has an impact on that value being done to it. I can't explain why it made such a massive jump though, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Traffic is pretty high on this site. I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibility that 100+ novels got a good new rating, a good review, a good advanced review, a favourite and/or a follower or two. Especially once you get to a place where the difference in the total score of the algorithm might be very close. Unlikely and not often, maybe. But not impossible.

An alternative explanation could be they changed the secret algorithm. Or someone got permabanned or deleted their account and their negative rating, review, advanced review got deleted and no longer counts in the other stories' ratings.
I sometimes think, therefore I sometimes am?
