Learning on how fire works, and how the color of a flame is effected by the fuel of the fire. That means fire magic can’t happen, due to the fact the color of the fire couldn’t be yellow, red, orange color; because that color is from heating of carbon/soot till they get really hot, which also produces light. So you would need wax or wood being burnt, or any carbon base object. But your not using those because your using magic or mana. So the flame is all lies!

So the same reason why lightbulbs create light that’s from the metal heating up till it starts to glow. The soot — made from the fuel and oxygen burning — is heated up till it start to glow. Carbon when hot goes LIGHT

Fuel heats up till it hits it combustion point then fire. Fire gets fueled by oxygen. Then the fuel gets burnt and then mix’s with oxygen and turn into different elements. And some those elements becomes the flame from being heated up really hot.

I would imagine that you could probably have fire magic as a portal to the fire realm or something and the more powerful the spell is the bigger and more specialized the portal is.

But most stories use mana to make fire. So the fire is burning mana, which wouldn’t create the classic fire color. Since fire is the combustion of fuel, and that fuel burning and being turned into something else and being mixed with the surrounding gases. And some of those elements are heated up till they a start to glow.

Then why not say that the mana creates both the fuel (say a flammable vapour) & the spark to instantaneously start the fire? You could even claim the type of spell affects the purity of the fuel (thereby introducing the different elements that burn with different colours) to get different colours for different spells/abilities? 🤔

Well at that point that wouldn’t be fire magic. It would be more creation magic than anything and/or earth magic making certain minerals. And the heat from fire is from the (released when chemical bonds are broken and formed during a combustion reaction) so it’s from the fuel burning and becoming something else and mixing with the surrounding gases

True. Even the ability to control/sustain the fire would depend on the wielders ability to generate the fuel. Then maybe fire magic would be a speciality of creation magic?

Sorry, I'm not sure what your point here is. Is it restating the fact that the user would need to continuously create fuel therefore it's creation not fire magic?

What I’m getting at is fire magic should be more complicated than (think of lighter) then boom. That is full blown creation of matter. Or atleast energy conversion. But most due to the fact even so mana made flames shouldn’t be orange, yellow, red

How would you know what color mana burns? Maybe mana burns red-orange-yellow.

Fuel for fire doesn't have to be solid. Liquid or flammable vapour would possibly be easier to manipulate. Unless you were thinking combustible dust..?

Kinda. Since mana is sorta like energy. So transforming it into a physical form first to burn it would be better. Its sorta like trying to burn electricity, it wouldn’t work

Why not just have the mana create the energy of the fire and have the color be whatever the mana burns?

Have higher level magic start being plasma magic or whatever.

So just pure heat. So transforming the mana into thermal energy

Physical form sure, not necessarily the same thing as solid. But sorry if that's what you meant and I misread. 🤓
