Re: Uneven Achievements And Annoying OCD

Alright. I'm kinda getting close to hitting the 250k word achievement, but I'm dreading it to the point I might just dump an extra 100k words just to get the one above it. Why? There's a star that doesn't have one across from it and it's very annoying to my ocd.
You guys ever have this kind of problem, or do you actually like it?
I'm in pain just thinking about it.

What annoys your ocd, or do you not think ocd matters?
I've heard a lot of people generally don't really believe or respect a person's ocd.
Mostly people who don't have it.
Mine is typically an extreme urge to do any particular thing my brain gets obsessed with.
Unfortunately, it gave me an insatiable urge to write.
Does it make you correct the tiniest tidbits of something or just not stop doing something until you feel satisfied?
Even breathing. If I breathe wrong I have to breathe a certain way to offset the weirdness. If I spin a certain direction I have to spin back.
The hyperventilation and dizziness suck.
That kinda thing.

Although I myself don't have OCD, I know people who have it and I have to agree that many people didn't consider it a "real" disease. However, I've seen the effect it had on them and it's as real a disease as cancer. It may not kill you, but it can steal your life from you and to me that seems far worse. Hopefully, you sharing your experience will help people understand OCD better. Thanks.

Honestly, I'm not too sure. It's more like there isn't really an order it can go in that makes it feel right. If anything, I do like how it is right now, for the most part. It's the fact that it's uneven that's the problem. Since each star is equivalent to one level, there is no way to make it even on all sides for each other level.
There might be a better way that I'm too stupid to see, but I would put half a star on each side for each level. So level one has a half star on both sides, level 2 fills that, same for level 3 and 4, and then a big star fills the last level.
But that would take a bit too much work, and I'd rather not bother you with that, apologies.
It's also probably just me that has any issues with it, so it shouldn't be much of a concern.
Thanks, Wing.

It would require a small art update, but what about just removing the empty stars, and add the stars as they appear, centered under the badge? So one star would go in the middle, two stars would be perfectly mirrored, at three stars the middle one would be centered, ect.

I don't have OCD. My wife does, though.

It's not really about evenness, per se; some people with OCD focus on symmetricality (likely out of an exaggerated response to the bilateral symmetry present in all larger land animals), but the emotional focus is still almost always about the symbolism of whether it is symmetrical or not. If it has meaning, then they can usually put up with asymmetry; if not, it bugs them. Autism has something similar, which is why high-functioning autistics often look like they have OCD to those who don't know much about either condition.

What would be a better star order?
Level 2:

Level 3:

Feel free to suggest another order.

Based on my experience with others, I think the only way to solve this particular issue is to not use the same images for each badge, with the only difference being whether the stars are filled in or not. Instead, while I'm not certain that it's important enough to redo right now (though I would have suggested this if I had for some strange reason been asked my opinion on the artwork before it was released), I think it would be better to look at achievements in video games. Their badges, when they have stars, usually only show the number of stars that have been gained. With higher badges come more stars.

So in other words, my advice would have been to use the following pattern, with no visible empty slots:
