Because they're always getting sick. It's honestly kinda weird how often people seem to get sick here. Makes me glad I don't have to leave the house to read RR.

We should get a team of medical professionals to investigate... The Author virus.

One could also do a thought experiment.

A lot of the writers have day jobs. 

So in order to write, they stay up till late- Taxing their bodies, making it more likely to get sick.

When other people are going to the gym, they could be dedicating that time to writing- So they may not be perfect athletic specimens, making it more likely to fall ill.

When people may be cooking and preparing a proper meal- Authors may just have a cup of noodles while writing cos time wasted on cooking is time lost on writing. Not eating healthy can cause you to get sick easier. 

These are just a few examples and they definitely do not apply to everyone, but like anything worthwhile in life. It takes some sacrifice and dedication.

There are thousands of stories on here. A certain amount of people writing them are sure to get sick at some point.

Also, at least I have an excuse for being perpetually sick, a bad immune system with chronic illness to boot.

Oh, no. Is this some kind of curse?

Medical bills cost money. Medicine costs money.  Everything costs money.

If I don't work I don't get paid, and if I do work I get exposed to other people who also have that same need.  That means on average I work with a sick person at least once per day.  Toss in the high stress and the low amount of sleep and my immune system isn't so hot.

Or saying you are sick is just a more convinient way of saying your life is completely F'ed up without getting into depressing details. 

Sick could = cold or fever but it could also = Significant other was cheating on you with your relative and now you have to divorce them while paying for a mortgage you cant rlly keep or any other drastically bad thing. 
...just as an example ofc.

I might be wrong, but I think it's referring to a common trope in romance anime where the MC catches a cold or something, and their love interest(s) come over to visit them in their home, usually to care for the MC by making congee and/or bringing medicine.

I always thought authors were like anime characters in their dedication to practice hard, get more skilled, and never give up until they've finished what they set out to write.

Getting sick is just part of being human, I feel.

Uh... well, dedication is a strong word for someone like me, who barely even keeps up with his own upload schedule and takes frequent hiatuses... （￣ー￣；）

Am I the only one who never gets sick so much as they just don't write for whatever reason? Maybe it'll set in soon but I've gotten pretty far in without a proper planned break
