A threat to the galaxy has come from another, and the Union of intelligent life will go to any length to stop it. Military Quarantine has held for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Traders, merchants, colonists, and Pirates live risky lives along the fringes as the politics from the inner systems fail to see the larger threats beyond their borders. A lone human finds himself far from home with no memories to how he arrived. A failing Trade vessel plays on a desperate gamble, while a malicious parasite searches for a suitable host.
Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has haunted me. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Yet, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe...
Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.
Six centuries into the future and light-years into outer space, the only thing that has not changed is the struggles of the human condition. The desires for power, love and survival persist in Tales of the Terrace Republic, a military space thriller that forges one flawed everyman into a hero.
Phillip Murphy is a veteran from a war that ended a decade ago. He hasn’t had a promotion in a long time, and the shrinking armed forces have not been friendly. The Terrace Navy puts him at the helm of a meager torpedo boat – a career-ending assignment.
But a routine space patrol finds his ship nearly ambushed by fighters, and when he tails them back to their base, Phillip discovers an anomaly – the investigation of which will change the course of his life forever.

“Start talking.” Ullir said.
“Go to hell.” The scaly alien spat.
“You have always underestimated me.” Ullir said and touched the alien's arm with the Light sword and he screamed. “You believe that I hold your lives in high regard, and you couldn't be farther from the truth. You are scum. The worst of the worst.” He said and slowly moved the Light sword through the alien's arm, who screamed again.

Set in the Warhammer 40k universe, but accessable to those unfamiliar with the setting.
The Imperium of Man has been fighting the Long War for ten thousand years. It is a war fought simultaneously across thousands of stars and against innumerable enemies. On smoke-filled battlefields and in the cold emptiness of the void the military might of the Imperium stands strong in the face of horrifying foes. It is not a war fought to conquer new lands, or to sieze the wealth of enemy nations. It is a war fought to hold what they have, or to regain what they have already lost.
The world of Nova Iberia is far from that war and supports the Imperium by sending her finest sons to foreign stars to fight and die as elite commandos in the Imperial Guard. A chance discovery on the corpse of one of these commandos has cast doubts around the world's loyalty, and has drawn the attention of the Imperial Inquisition. The seekers of the Alien, the Heretic and the Daemon have descended upon this peaceful world, and they will not leave it intact.
Primaris Psyker Amelia Lafayette was a ward of the state, now bound as an acolyte to the Inquisition in recognition of her telepathic gifts. Inexperienced, and browbeaten by her training, she must adapt to her new circumstances or fall. If she can navigate the tangled webs of heresy, and survive life in the Inquisition, then she may find the opportunity to prove herself worthy of greater authority.
This is not the Earth that you and I know. This Earth is in an alternate reality, where different rules apply. Most of the events that happened on our Earth happened on this Earth as well, though caused by different things. You see, this Earth has levels, magic and dungeons. Adventuring into these dungeons is a way of life for a lot of people. Jonathan just turned 18, which means he is eligible to become an adventurer. Follow Jonathan and his friends as they begin their journey.
Decades ago, Elcy was a battleship. Her recklessness on the front led her to forced retirement in a human body. Fallen from favor after her last mission, she’s now stuck on Virgo station as a cadet instructor. Eager to return to the front, Elcy accepts a bureaucratic mission that no one else wants to take on. On the way there, an unexpected party approaches her with an offer that is too bizarre to be true.

The Technocracy was the most extraordinary empire to ever exist in the multiverse. Despite this, its famed legacy stems from just a single man.
An untold number of players, each with their own desires, participated in the game. Some joined in the name of progress and others in search of fame. The rest joined because The Machine asked them to.
This is the tale of the universe, how it was shaped by the advent of an empire from Earth and the stories of the players who built it.

PS: I am new at writing and this is my first attempt at this. Any criticism or suggestions is appreciated. Hope you enjoy the story. I am really slow at writing so I apologize in advance for the time between chapters.
Replicants. Dogs of war, their leash held by greedy corporations. Living weapons with serial numbers instead of names. Genetically perfect soldiers, created for one purpose and one purpose only - to complete the mission at any cost. But what are they to do when the battlefield is far away, commanding officers are gone and they are on a peaceful planet that belongs to the enemy? Two replicants must not only escape the enemy territory, but also deliver two civilians to the HQ. However, their charges are doing everything they can to sabotage the mission and the orders are clear - they can't be left behind or killed.
Glyphnax had finally reached his ultimate goal, they had emancipated themselves from their infernal patron after centuries of servitude. The world was theirs for the taking and power akin to a god was within their grasp. And then a bunch of uppity adventurers ruined everything. One botched teleport spell later and suddenly Glyphnax, High Warlock of the 7th circle and master diabolist was floating in an endless cold void. It took them all their might to ensure that they did not die in that cold and airless space before they were knocked unconscious from the strain.
Waking up from that was no blessing either as They suddenly where in a world of science and space travel. Magic has long since been disproven as a force in that universe and Glyphnax near god-level powers have been reduced to a mere shade of what they were before. Strange blue boxes with arbitrary numbers and statistics fill up his vision and his stranded on a strange ship manned by Humans and other weirder creatures. They now have to deal with the dangers of space, megalomaniacal courier corporations, ancient cyborg hordes and an overly concerned AI with abandonment issues.
