She asked that we buy her a real bed and turned down my offer to make her one out of slime, still drawing the line there. I must have been more tired than I realized, as I had no issue falling into slumber in my bedtub, practically dozing off the second I reverted to a gelatinous mass.

Waking up, I felt particularly refreshed and revitalized, and found Vee in similarly high spirits. It seemed the long evolution had taken a lot out of her, not to mention the emotional highs and lows about her size and age.

We were planning to go to Keld, but before that I wanted to show Vee what I'd been working on. We started at the first room I had constructed, showing off my current advances in recreating spatial compression. I had found the task more enthralling than I initially realized, and even though it was vastly different subjects, it reminded me of when I was first trying to compress my slime back in the forest.

"Well damn, how long until you can make your own snow globe?" Vee asked, looking curiously around and no doubt scrutinizing it with [Spatial Sense].

"I think I'm pretty far off from that… I've got a partially working quadruple space, but it's still a work in progress."

I showed Vee the upgraded room, and maybe because I was fully refreshed or had a sudden flash of inspiration, I suddenly saw the flaws in my design. While Vee was gawking at the complexity, I silently began fixing the mistakes in the enchantment and stabilizing the compression.

I wasn't sure how long had passed, but when I came out of my trance, the work was complete, and I saw Vee playfully jumping through the doorway to experience the compression effect.

"Looks like you upgraded it?" Vee asked.

"No… I just completed it. Before it wasn't getting the full effect, so it was hovering somewhere between double and quadruple."
(...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 442 : New Perks

Vee had already calmed down a lot after discovering she wouldn't be a perpetual child, or so we hoped, for everyone's sake, but her mood took a substantial positive swing when we brought out some food.

"I can finally eat like a human again!" Vee said, delighted, as she grabbed handfuls of food.

"Shouldn't you be using utensils to eat like a human?" I asked.

"Yeah, but I'm twelve at the moment, so cut me some slack."

Weirdly, despite now having opposable thumbs and arms, her eating had diminished greatly. Maybe it was because, when she was a spider, she often stuffed the whole thing into her mouth, leaving very little room to make a mess.

While Vee ate, I spent some time modifying her dress with enchantments, as apparently this dress had not been made from her [Rift Thread] and was just something she liked and had bought from a store.

Wait… How did she even buy it from a store?

Apparently Sylbera was the answer, and it was during one of my vacations on the island. Vee had gone out with Sylbera and instructed her from the shadows to buy some groceries and other items, putting the vast wealth we had accumulated to good use. During that little expedition, she saw this dress and bought it for her evolved self.

"We can make a combat one later. For now I just need to get used to all the changes in this body," Vee replied.

I would've thought she would've wanted to be extremely protective of her recently acquired human side, but apparently I was the one mistaken. Yes, despite how she looked, she was still a monster through and through, and that frail-looking human skin was anything but, able to block even swords without so much as a scratch.

"I can actually turn into a full spider; it's one of the traits I got from my evolution. I'm a bit annoyed [Bipedal Shift] didn't come for free, but I guess Arachne don't necessarily go around pretending to be humans, or something like that."

Vee (...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 441 : Arachne

Vee slowly began to awaken, her consciousness still groggy and her body feeling unnaturally stiff. She wasn't sure how long she had been out, having never had someone to actually comment on her time spent evolving, but it felt long; why else did she feel so tired and hungry?

In an effort to wake up faster, Vee stretched her right arm upward, placed her left arm behind her head, and grabbed her right arm before alternating the two. An old habit she had from before all this crazy monster stuff began. As she was stretching and letting out a little groan of satisfaction, she suddenly paused, the gears in her head finally turning and putting two and two together.

"I have hands!" Vee gasped, releasing her stretching position and holding out the two foreign yet familiar appendages in front of her. Vee couldn't help but giggle at the sight, making sure to wiggle them; boy did she miss having fingers and thumbs!

Vee then let out another shocked gasp as she grabbed at her neck and throat with both hands; yes, she had those now. "I can talk! It worked! Haha, Syl is going to be so surprised and shocked when she sees this!"

Perhaps out of excitement, or still half-asleep, Vee rushed to the exit to show off without exploring her changes further. She'd been keeping this evolution a big surprise and wanted to see how her slimy best friend would react to the big moment. She reached for the closed [Rift Door], using her hands this time, and made a grasping, pulling motion, the magic coming to life and responding to her will as it opened, and she promptly jumped through.

As she left the empty dimensional void, she immediately felt the familiar mental bond tell her that Syl was right there; yes, her companion had been faithfully waiting for her emergence. Vee felt a sense of relief as she returned to the sunny island and saw nothing immediately wrong, like it being reduced (...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 440 : Generous Gifts

Before I left with my supplies courtesy of Keldenar's generous donation, I made sure to pop in and at least say hello to Sylvester and Sylthaeryn. Even though they were technically me, I was treating them for all intents and purposes as their own individuals. I had considered it was not only a stupid idea but a risky one considering the warnings placed in [Split Personality], yet I felt reassured by my authority as the prime core.

Besides, I figured that if I treated them well, then surely there wouldn't be any potential for rebellion. Maybe I was being silly, but I felt like I owed it to them for all the help they had given me, especially during the early stages of my journey. And, if the unthinkable ever happened and I was left all alone, well, then at least I'd have someone to talk to.

I shooed away those dark thoughts and focused on the happy present. Sylvester was working hard and happy as always, possibly still not knowing about his future workload increase. I secretly wished him good luck before leaving and checking in on my body double.

Or well, technically I'm supposed to be her body double. Is this what you'd call a double's double? Or a counterfeit decoy? Not sure… It's funny to think about though.

Sylthaeryn was effectively on vacation compared to Sylvester, although she was still keeping up with her regular training and tasks. She received a luxurious home in Keld, including its own personal archery range, which was actually a golem target that provided several features, such as a dodging target or a damage test.

Not only was she still training, but she was also involved in the political side of things thanks to me delegating it to her. This meant meetings between Keldenar himself as well as some of Keld's ministers. From that front, things seemed to be progressing relatively smoothly, and it seemed (...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 439 : Space and Essence

With my [Personal Rift] recovered, my study of the notes and the snow globe itself increased tremendously. Not only because of the precision it added to studying spatial anomalies, but also because I no longer needed to leave home to observe them. In what I could only describe as a spark of brilliance, I placed a [Rift Beacon] right next to the snow globe, allowing me instant access to it from across the world.

I also had a promised appointment with Keldenar now that I had recovered my ability, but I still held off for an extra day or two to indulge myself in magical research. Sadly, I didn't reach a workable conclusion just yet, mostly because I got distracted by other tasks I jumped on or by occasional fooling around with [Exchange].

Yes, the spell was proving more useful than I initially realized, as soon as I found very little limit to what I could swap with. Even across massive distances, it didn't really seem to matter, except for granting some minor extra protection in case they wanted to resist being swapped.

Possibly the most devious use I found involved my ever-favorite [Nitro Slime], where I could sneakily replace something with a hidden bomb replica. In a way, it was sort of a step backward, as why bother replacing a rock with a bomb when I could send living bombs thanks to [Slime Puppetry], but I found it amusing regardless.

I also successfully upgraded my [Blink] spell, as even though [Exchange] was what I'd describe as perfection, I couldn't exactly swap places with open-air, and for that, I was better off using [Blink]. Yes, annoyingly, even though air was technically something, it wasn't a valid target for [Exchange], and unfortunately, that seemed to apply to things like water too. Honestly, I was just glad that slime was a valid target, or I would've never (...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 438 : Spatial Anomalies

Vee's return and departure were definitely felt by the island's residents, despite her having given a detailed set of tasks and responsibilities as she evolved. As for me, I continued focusing on myself for the time being while occasionally relaxing or even socializing with others.

Logan, for example, had been quite clingy in an almost childlike way, as if he was desperately craving my attention. It was odd considering he was supposed to be an ancient tree spirit reborn again, or something like that, but here he was, craving my presence. Even if I wasn't interacting with him, just the fact that I was present in the room he prepared for me, molded from his own trunk and branches, was enough to satisfy him.

Yuzz, on the other hand, was like an old friend, and I had fun spending time with her and just being myself, although that had the regrettable effect of making me crave my other companions on the human side. I still regret that day when I ran away, but I was in an extremely awkward position at the time. Of course, now I had a reasonable excuse thanks to Vee's idea of pretending to be Sylthaeryn's body double, and I also had the aid of Keldenar.

I could go now… But I'd rather wait till I have something to show for it by beating one more labyrinth. Although the question then will be, do I still pretend to be an Elementalist, or do I reveal that I'm a Riftmancer now?

I figured I'd better ask Keldenar's opinion on that matter, as the truth might honestly be too much. Considering I'd been poisoned in the past for being one, I had no doubt it would paint another target on my back, which was not exactly something I wanted to do. It also might make me some kind of celebrity, with every noble or, worse, royal wanting a piece of me.

Like… What do I do if someone like the king asks me to personally come do some [Dimension Magic] thing for them? Or some (...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 437 : Island Report

Even after eating enough food that would've bloated her if not for her stomach being its own storage space, Vee didn't choose to immediately evolve. She had a bit of admin she wanted to resolve while she'd been out of commission, and she also needed to catch up on the island's state while we were away. From my perspective, things hadn't changed much, but Vee was insistent on getting a full progress report.

I guess I chose the right spider for the job; she's really taken this role passionately.

The same could be said for Sylbera, her maid-assistant who dutifully kept up with the energetic spider's pace and offered help wherever she could. Vee was effectively giving her a list of chores to handle while she was away, and the look on Sylbera's face indicated how seriously she was taking it.

There was also a progress report on the goblins, who were now fully integrated, and Yuzz had been filling her impromptu role as their leader and representative remarkably well. However, Vee must have sensed trouble in the air, and soon we found a seedy underbelly in the goblin's operation—an illegal kitchen!

"No! Please spare the gloop!" Glooz cried out, falling to his knees as Sylbera confiscated the large cooking pot on Vee's behalf.

Unfortunately for Glooz, his protests fell on deaf ears, and even his fellow goblins weren't supporting him, having now fully converted to the wonders of real food. For whatever reason, despite now having decent levels in chef and skills to back it up, the goblin Glooz insisted on recreating that foul concoction by any means necessary.

"I don't understand, you cook well, Glooz. Why make the nasty gloop?" Yuzz asked, trying to reason with her fellow goblin.

"Gloop is not nasty, it just misunderstood! It needs time to ferment and evolve into its true form!"

"I like the sausage you make more than gloop…" one of the goblins finally admitted.

"Yes, sausage tasty. Very crispy," (...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 436 : Summarize

As soon as I opened the case and touched the book, it suddenly appeared in my hands, and we were all thrown out into the tundra. The giant snow globe itself remained, except that the picturesque scenery on the inside was now entirely obscured. I instinctively touched it, wondering if it was still open, but received no response.

I guess when it clears up, it will be ready again. Or maybe it will only clear up when I bring enough new blood to the test?

I wasn't sure, but we had more important things to worry about than diving down another rabbit hole of speculation. We needed to return home before Vee started eating the snow to put something in her stomach. We said farewell to the personas as I returned their slime and cores to [Core Storage] for an instant trip home.

"I'll order a meal prepared before you get back!" Sylbera said before she went into the storage.

"Bless her heart," Vee said, sighing happily. "Shall we get out of here?"

"I'll handle the teleportation since we want to mix it up a bit before heading to the island."

"That works for me…" Vee agreed, appearing on my shoulder in a shrunken state and slumping.

I stored away my prize a little reluctantly, then pulled up [Landmarks] to see its list of coordinates. It felt good to be outside the compressed space, with all my tools available and no hindrances.

Well… Not all of them.

There was a notable absence, and I was already missing my [Personal Rift]. I wasn't sure how long it would take to reform, but I hoped it was sooner rather than later. We teleported around to a few locations, all of which were a drop in the bucket for my Mana supply, before returning to Glimmerock, and from there, I hastily flew off into the distance.

Once I deemed it far (...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 435 : Starving the Hunger

"No way, how could it still be alive!?"

I refused to believe it. After everything we'd gone through, somehow this creature had lived? Did it start eating partway through its destruction? But if that were the case, it should have helped contain the blast, or was that too much for it to chew on?

I released the seal of slime around the area, allowing all the smoke and debris to clear thanks to a timely gust of wind from Sylvain. Right in the center of an absolute crater was the creature, huddled over and still in the process of digesting its meal, whether that was my aperture or explosion.

However, despite it still being "alive," its cursed energy levels had plummeted. In fact, its body appeared entirely vaporized, and what was maintaining some semblance of a physical form was all originating from its void-like stomach. The other wendigo all had pale and wispy ghostly limbs, but the Hollow Monarch was now entirely composed of whatever that pitch-black substance was.

"It's on the verge of death! We just need to finish it off!" I shouted to the rest of the group, informing them we were on the cusp of victory.

Everyone jumped into action, with Sylvester sending in his golems to delay the creature. The other monsters had all behaved frantically after their transformation into similar states, but this one almost seemed lethargic as it casually swiped with its arm at the approaching threats. Yet despite such a casual action, it tore through the unfortunate golem in its path in almost the exact same way it had devoured attacks previously.

Our entire group shuddered at that, as it could now consume while attacking, something it couldn't previously do. The only comfort was that its cursed energy hadn't been recovered from the attack and was still draining away as time passed. This must have been how it survived (...)

Syl [A Slime Monster Evolution LitRPG] - Chapter 434 : Reckless Slime

The battle was continuing as we traded blows with the creature, and so far, nobody on our end had been injured. Plenty of slime had been torn to shreds, devoured, or frozen, but that barely even counted as a flesh wound for us. More importantly, Vee hadn't been wounded, unless you counted her food supply, and neither had any of my cores.

It looked like we would need to start dismembering it to make it expend more energy if we wanted to win. Before any of that, though, I needed to try out my newly conceived scheme. I activated [Personal Rift] and felt its vague presence struggling to manifest around me, as multiple conflicting coordinates flashed through my mind.

Maybe when everything is done, I should come back here and spend like a month just researching this compressed space. Maybe I'll be able to make a breakthrough on my own [Dimension Magic]?

I saved that tempting stray thought for later, as I had much more important things to worry about. I waited for the creature to begin its next devouring cycle, and once it did, I immediately attempted to tear open an aperture beside it. As I had anticipated, it was not simple; my previous tears in space were like a hot knife through butter, but now it felt more like using a spoon to cut through a plank of wood.

Yet despite that, I managed, and the fractured space was also devoured by the creature. I felt the aperture immediately cease to exist, and knew that I now had one less to work with until it recovered. Yet none of that was important, and I studied the monster to see what would happen. Thankfully, it wasn't a long wait, and soon the chewing started… And then kept going.

"Be careful! I fed it an aperture so I might have given it some indigestion!"

"Some warning next time would be nice!" Vee shouted in response.

We continued attacking the creature, who was fighting back, but the chewing sounds didn't stop. This turn of events allowed us to continue damaging it (...)
