Chapter 20 (286) - Stock Up

There had only ever been twenty seven cats stationed in Merol.

Aside from the business with Lorn, and keeping watch over a specific painter Lola was interested in for reasons the cats were on a need to know basis, and these ones didn’t need to know, there was nothing else in the city that warranted having a team larger than three sets of nine.

Coincidentally, the fifteen cats that died, or went missing, during the moon flashing red, and more recently the snow storm, were all the “top brass” as the grey furred cat currently “in charge” explained to Sylver.

The grey cat’s name was Tippy. And Nels looked thrilled each time one of the cats opened its mouth to speak.

They had someone inside the adventurer’s guild, so Sylver’s tags and documents would be ready by the end of the day, and as he had predicted, either Lola or Chrys had drained whatever gold he might have had on his account, and left him with 1 gold coin, 1 silver coin, and 31 copper coins.

The cats said there was a storehouse that they owned that had barrels of dried corn that he could use to trade with merchants, and estimated that the corn was worth somewhere between one hundred and fifty gold, to five hundred. They had more things to potentially trade with, but Sylver didn’t want to disrupt whatever remnants of a system they had left by taking the goods they might need to bribe people with.

As to the request of a trustworthy mage with access to spatial magic, and getting a message to Arda, on both counts they didn’t have anything.

The cat that would have had access and been able to get in contact with a mage was dead, and the twelve that were here didn’t know who inside the castle was on their side, and therefore didn’t know who (...)

Sylver Seeker - Sylver Seeker Book 7 Is Out!

Today is the day of days!

By which I mean book 7 of the Sylver Seeker series has been published!

There is an Ebook available right now, and an Audiobook is in the works!

Expectations may need to be adjusted.

Not on the finding Ibis members part, he had a 100% success rate on that, but as for keeping Eira in one singular piece, omelettes and broken eggs came to mind on that topic…

Truth be told, everything leaning towards catastrophe was starting to be a problem, first the dragon, then the moon, then the ice, if Sylver cared to look back at the path his bloody footprints left behind he would see a pattern that he wouldn’t like.

But, he found Nels, and made it out of the mountain, that was the important thing.

So what if he kickstarted the birth of a new god, sealed the planet in an unbreakable sheet of ice, released a mountain sized humanoid figure that may-or-may-not be a mutated dungeon core, oh, and Redcaps might be a thing on this side of the Asberg, but Nels’ survival was worth all the eggs the realm had to offer…

It would have been better if Nels wasn’t uncharacteristically secretive with what she knew, expanded on her relationship with the 3 sisters, or in her case 3 brothers, or at least told him what she knew about the Sun demon, or Aurick’s little book.

On top of that she had to talk to Edmund before she told Sylver anything serious, and all of this was happening while Edmund and Chrys both took a vacation and turned off their metaphorical phones before leaving.

On the faint bright side, Sylver found new incredible components to enhance his body, [Swamp Lord] was on the cusp of reaching 100, he got some new magic from the mountain people, a storage Perk that was everything he ever (...)

Sylver Seeker - Classes/Skills/Perks/Traits

What’s a Class?

A class is a category a person/creature/monster/other can be given by the system that brings with it Skills, Perks, and sometimes Traits. Classes come in tiers, the tiers seen so far are Inferior, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, and Unique. Classes can be merged with other classes, classes can be locked away, removed, swapped, and under the right conditions, can be traded.

The “rock-paper-scissors” thinking of Class A always winning against Class B in a fight doesn’t apply within the world, no one class is superior to another, how you use it, how your opponent uses their class, and environmental factors all play into who would win in a fight.

The main character in Sylver Seeker has 3 classes as of writing this.

Koschei, Necromancer, and Swamp Lord. Classes come in roughly two types, combat, and crafting. Combat classes gain experience and levels from killing things, whereas crafting classes gain experience from crafting things that help someone with a combat class to kill things.

What constitutes “killing” is arguable, the system doesn’t count creating 100 golems and then destroying them the same as finding 100 golems in the wild and killing them. There are rules within the system that are set in stone, but for the most part it’s more correct to imagine an all knowing dungeon master of sorts looking down on you, and knowing when you’re trying to cheat or cheese the system.

-

Ch004-Starting Somewhere

-

-

The hit to the head brought Sylver down to the floor. Everything was spinning around and he could feel warm blood dripping down onto his face. He watched the wooden floor an inch or so from his face, and the droplets of red already being absorbed by the wood. The second hit was a little better placed and knocked him out cold.

*

“What have you done with Ciege?” Yeva asked calmly, sitting across from Sylver on a small wooden stool.

His consciousness returned slowly and a little hazily, and it took him a couple of seconds to understand what the fuck was going on here. His hands felt numb from how tight the bindings were, and the back of his head was pulsing with pain.

“Who are you? And where is Ciege?” Yeva asked. In the dark room, the only source of light was a small candle. With it, Sylver could barely make out Yeva, dressed from head to toe in leather armor, and holding a long curved blade of some kind.

“I…” Sylver paused to consider what he was about to do. He decided to go against his plan to pretend to be Ciege and instead told her the truth.

“Alright. The short version is, Ciege asked for my help to save you, and as payment, I got his body. And while I initially planned to just kill him, I changed my mind and am now going to make him a new body. Any questions?” Sylver said, speaking softly and making as much eye contact with Yeva as he could. It didn’t appear to have the desired effect on her. In fact she looked slightly more pissed off from it, instead.

Yeva sat still for a while. Just staring at Sylver (...)

Sylver Seeker - Ch003-Time Flies

-

Ch003-Time Flies

-

-

*Ciege
Ciege woke up with an awful pain in his neck. In the past when he had fallen asleep at the forge, he would wake up with a pillow and blanket. At first, it was his mother, and later on his father. But now he was alone. A lot of the time when he woke up, he would be covered in sweat, and shrug the woolen thing off him, annoyed at being treated like a child.

But now that there was nobody left to place it, he missed that tiny piece of wool. The forge had been cleaned to the point it was shining. He had added his father’s name onto the giant metal chimney, and while he was at it, added his own. The chimney had a long list of names going all the way up to the ceiling, and still had plenty of space at the bottom, that would now remain eternally unused.

With the razor he used for shaving, he cut his hair, until it was barely a finger’s width in length, and threw the cut-offs into the forge. A smile crept onto his face as he remembered the 2 seconds of relief, that he wouldn’t have to pay the temple a copper for his dead father. His body was burned in the forge, as was his father before him, and his father before him.

The forge was built an unknown time ago. From its proximity to the river, and where the center used to be, his family could boast to be one of the earliest settlers in this area. Traces of his family’s brand could be found on some of the oldest tools in the city. Even the great brass bell the temple uses has a tiny marking made by one of his predecessors.

I wonder what my grandfather would think. Giving up my life (...)

Sylver Seeker - Ch002-Hellos and Goodbyes

-

Ch002-Hellos and Goodbyes

-

-

The moment the needle entered his finger, Ciege was gone. Pulled out of his body, and very smoothly shoved into an abandoned corner of Sylver’s mind, and given just enough energy to continue to exist.

Sylver on the other hand was now lying on the floor, blood, bile, and more blood, pouring out of his mouth, his left arm completely dislocated, and his whole body screaming out in pain.

He felt the hobgoblin wrap its fat hand around his wrist and moved the minuscule pool of mana he had into his arm. Uncoiling the pool, like one would a thread, he sent a slither of mana through his hand, through the hobgoblin's arm, and up into its core. In a split second, he had it perfectly secured and yanked at it.

The hobgoblin paused, as it felt something missing inside itself and grabbed at its chest to try and fix it. It looked down at its fat hands and bulging stomach, as both were very rapidly decreasing in size, and drying up. It barely felt its body hit the ground, as the last remaining piece of its life was removed.

[Hobgoblin (None) Defeated!]
[Skill unavailable. Requirements not met]

[??? ??? Cured!]

Sylver stood his body up, and let the hobgoblin’s energy spread out through his body. He first fixed his lung, then the poisoned arrow in his shoulder, and lastly returned his skin to its regular unburned state. He watched with relief as the health bar started to tick back up. It was the only reason Ciege made it this far inside, he just had enough raw strength and resistances (...)

Sylver Seeker - Ch001-A False Start

-

Ch001-A false Start

-

-

*Sylver

There were very few moments in life when Sylver had cried as an adult. After he had tied his soul to his phylactery, he hadn’t cried even once. And it upset him to no end, that he didn’t know if he was crying right now because everyone he cared about was being killed right in front of his eyes, or just because his soul was back in his body, for the first time in over 10 years.

Aether was the first to die. And the one Sylver cried the most about. Then Lenora, then Adam, and then the rest of his colleagues. The brightest minds the world had ever seen, were now dead. What was even worse, was that he didn’t have time to be emotional about any of this. He had a duty to carry out, and even with the feeling of his heart getting stabbed over and over again, he would get it done.

After the woman he only knew as the cook with freckles had died, he thankfully managed to repress everything he was feeling. About the only good thing about this situation, was that he didn’t have to worry about blowing up later. The woman’s corpse fell unceremoniously to the floor, as her soul joined the effort. The traitor continued to torture and kill his way down the ranks.

The last remaining members of Ibis were now only Sylver and a butler he hadn’t seen before. Going by his colours, he was one of Edmunds. Sylver made a mental note that the man died with honor, only silently crying as his arms were crushed, his intestines pulled out, and finally, his head slowly compressed until bursting open. His soul too, almost eagerly, joined the effort.

The traitor walked up to Sylver, now the archmagi, by process of literal elimination. The ancient magic (...)
