Great Concept From a Developing Author

Great concept, the beginning is definitely my favorite part of the series. After about 20 chapters or so the author starts including some weird elements to it. Including every sex fetish ecchi novel writers are too conservative to include in their own fictions.

The author is a pretty solid writer. He knows how to use dialog tags and exposition properly, which I can't say about a lot of authors.

My biggest flaw with his writing style is that the author uses casual vocabulary where it doesn't fit. He'll describe a mischievous smile as being a "shit-eating grin". This is fine in casual conversation, but you expect the narrator to have a more mature vocabulary and pulls you out of immersion when you see it being used so strangely.

Grammar is fine. I don't see a lot of errors very often. I don't pay close attention to punctuation, but I didn't notice any overt problems.

Story is hit and miss. The start was just brilliant. But as the author changes the setting, he starts including some very awkward story elements.

For one, he'll introduce certain characters that you KNOW are destined to be killed off or some other miserable fate simply because of the way they're treated. Then the author develops those characters and tries to make you care about them. This takes place over the next 20-50 chapters all the while the author regularly reminds you "she's destined to die." No, don't do that. I don't want to care about people I know are going to die. At least make the death a surprise and don't advertise it every other chapter.

Then we have the sex scenes... This series includes every form of sex you didn't want to read about. We have fisting, dickgirls, rape, S&M, tentacle sex. The series didn't start with it, but got added later on. Often entire chapters are dedicated to describing a fetishistic sex scene in loving detail. I wish the author just dropped that whole element to the series personally, but some people seem to like it in the comments. Whatever. I'm not taking marks off for it, I'm just informing you that it's there.

The characters are pretty good aside from the authors need to add a new extreme fetish with each new character.

The protagonist is a wonderfully unique character I will admit. Although I feel like his knowledge of the world advances just a bit quickly considering his age. Just because you have high 'int' doesn't mean you have worldly experience. As of the current chapters, the protagonist handles every situation like he's an expert on the matter. I could leave it alone if the author skipped over more time, but it's a pretty ridiculous development speed.

I will cry if it ever stop.

This is perfection.
This is like a drug in the form of written words that is given for free.
I always want more, it give me pleasure and the best of all is that i can't make an overdose and it doesn't get boring over time like most novel with the same length.

This shiny novel turned me into a absolute fanatic.

Loved it and then hated it

I really liked it at the beginning. The MC had an awesome personality. His growth was awesome. Then he started summoning the Demons. When I had to vote if I liked sexual content I put yes without reservations. God I was mistaken (not that my vote meant something). I really didn't want to read a pornographic story. It was almost as if the Mimic became a secondary character and the main action was the one between his two demons. Also even though the mimic growth in strenght was smooth, it looked like the humans were just fodder even when they were the same level as him.

Great start (dropped at chaos 6)

Great novel in the beginning and it does some things amazingly well.

1. I haven't seen such an uncaring and callous character done so well.

2. the demons are the most demonic that I have seen also. (most authors simply have the demons as one-sided baby eaters and stop at that)

3. The interesting magic system along with decent world building. (along with half decent descriptions)

4. an amusing sense of humor at the start of the novel. (which vanished once the girls arrived and in its place was sex scenes but whatever)

However I dropped it after the Mc became a puppet, plot armor kicked everything in the face with literal Deus ex machina, and tropes started coming out the ass.

Give it a read and see if it's to your taste, but be warned it may not be to your taste sooner or later.

Monsters can be named 'Gary Stu', too...

It's well written, technically speaking.

Even so, the MC is a plot armored, dense, quickly OP protag.
Also this is yet another 'This character sheet's development' type story where the (protagonist?) gets magically convenient plot developments, and power-ups like candy from the sky.

The fact that he's not human is 'clever'-ish-- but that only holds you a few chapters.

I don't understand the popularity honestly. Rooting for the MC to prey on humans is probably a draw for many. As you're normally 'wired' for the MC to survive, you are anxious about the prospect of parties of experts gunning for him eventually. Yeah... when they act like fodder for the story you realize that was a wasted concern.

I mean- you would think the MC survivng as a monster would be a point of suspense/challenge- but no- not so much...

  • Some allies appear flaky, but are actually deus ex plot foils with conveniently masterful planning and execution.
  • Some opponents act 'smart', but are actually dumb and die stupidly.

So, those two points make for no 'challenge' or 'suspense' after you realize this is just an oddly 'monster skinned' 'Gary Stu' adventure. I guess goblins weren't 'monster' enough.

Eventually you get to the whole hentai schtick, featuring the ridiculousness of 'erotic' vore and the 'naturally resulting' mindbreak if you're can believe/are into that.

(sigh)

Well, 'whatever'...

Overall, pretty mindless/pointless.

The novelty wears off pretty quick-, but I'm sure some will find this to their liking.

For me, the forced platting and super-thick plot armor is what dragged me out of it. Well, the vore and mindbreak helped. Too many stupid things layered on top of one another and I don't find it palatable anymore. Add to that the overall pointlessness, and the clear intent not to handle any of the implied challenges in a reasonable/logical manner (instead solving with deus ex contrivances and conveniently compliant plotting) and I'm no longer curious... :(

I will say that the concept suggested a challenge in writing (in my mind) where having a mimc survive outside a dungeon (etc.) would be an interesting story. Well, this isn't that story & I suppose that's ok- but to so radically make this... whatever it actually is- to make the writing unchallenging...

Well, I'm sure many like it as-is

I just did the 'Advanced Review' scoring, and now I'm wondering how others can honestly give some of the ratings they do.
'Style' is subjective- so I'll let that go, though I don't see this as being anything beyond normal execution with a different type of character.
'Story' is also debatable- so I'll just say (how I see it) where the story is lacking a plot up to where I stopped reading. To me 'and then another thing happened' repeatedly isn't the same as 'story'. There is absolutely no goal, the plot armor on the MC removes any suspense. The convenient power-ups destroy any 'needs'... On to the next point...
'Grammar' is good. Nothing worth quibbling over there...
'Character'... The MC has none, and everyone else is disposable or a caricature. Anyone 5 stars this- I'd love to hear why.

None of this detracts from it's likability- it is somewhat amusing, and had potential. if you like it 'as is'- more power to you. I'm just not a fan of the nonsense hentai it's quickly becoming.

I usually don't like stories that give the villians side of things... but this one is very well done and if you think about it, he is not a villian.  The main character is just a monster being a monster. This story is fairly original (as in with the title I never expected it was about a mimic...) and well written.  It is definately now listed as one of my favorites!

Can I just take a moment to say just how much I like this novel? No seriously I really love this novel. So far it must be one of the few handful novels on this site I ever liked as much as I do.

Moving on with the review, what's there for me to say? I find this novel to be close to perfection. The theme really resonates with me, I like the ecchi scenes, I like the serious scenes, I'm captivated by the tension build-ups. The novel is very well writen, so much that I find it quite hard to think of the author as an amateur writer, I mean this guy must definitely have an editor or two who not only correct grammar but edit the story itself, I mean how can this be done by one person at the speed that it releases? As you can see from my review I'm very amazed.

Now lets start with style. Love it. Not much to say, I'm a huge sucker for game-like novels specially ones where it's not really a guy playing a game but the world itself is gamelike. I also am a fan of skills and monster protagonists. If I had anything negative to say about the style it would be the stats, I mean I feel like lately (as of chapter "Those who are Left 6") stats are kinda growing at a bad pace, I feel like they are growing too high and it's giving them less worth.

Moving on to story, for this I feel basically the same as I do for style. I like these types of stories, I'm a sucker for monster MC's and I'm a fan of the sexy content, specially the dominant manner in which the MC behaves in.

Grammar, It's very clean, as I've said I feel like the author must have some help editing because the mistakes I've seen have been so few and far inbetween that they might as well not exist. In fact I've probably only come across 2 or 3 in total.

Characters, another great part of this novel. Author is really flushing out it's MC, enough so that we the readers can see that there is a method to his madness. Side characters are not left behind as we get some background on his minions and even some of the other side characters. There is also not too much clutter as in the author isn't adding a thousand character and forgetting them 2 chapters later. Most of them add to the story and when they stop being relevant there is a reason why they don't appear anymore.

Finally I'd give this a 5/5 but that would mean it's perfect and no novel is really perfect so instead I'm giving it a 4.5/5 and I feel like I'm being unjust here and it should be higher. If it were possible I'd give it a 4.8/5. There isn't much I can recommend the author to improve upon because from my amateur perspective this work is already very well polished and in my eyes is so well done that I can't think of anything to improve upon at this momment. Anyways to the author if you read this, please keep going I'm a huge fan and I'm really cheering for you. For the readers, who want to read this, give it a try I'm sure you will really like it and if you don't then is my opinion something may be wrong with you. =D

As of Gainful Employment 6:

A fun, light hearted, albeit juvenile story that knows to not take itself too seriously.  I was on the fence as to whether or not I should continue this story until the Gainful Employment arc.  That convinced me to stay, and I’m glad I did.

Grammar is better than most on the site, but not perfect.  Main character makes a wonderful antihero, and is by fair the star attraction to the work.  After all, everyone enjoys big chests.  That said, I'm impressed with the development of the side characters in the current arc.

I don't really like all the trans-demon porn scenes, and for the most part skip overthem.  I wouldn't continue on the story if it wasn't easy to do so.  Some of the sex scenes were well done, but most of them were lacking, and an overall distraction to the quality sections of the work.
