How to Raise Your Dungeon

How to Raise Your Dungeon

by Wheels

A dungeon core awakens for the first time.  It knows nothing, it has nothing, but it can hear something.  Voices, whispering, talking, and sharing.  For now, they are distant.  But it believes, if it proves itself, they may provide it with wisdom and direction.  And so its slow but steady growth begins.

Polls will come when the dungeon specifically wants to choose between a number of options, and believes it will receive an answer.  However, it will "hear" any comments made on the most recent chapter, and these will shape its behaviour.  It trusts you implicitely.  This story is an exercise in stretching my creative muscles, so with each decision made, the options and opportunities open to the dungeon will change- some closing off forever.  The dungeon will face threats periodically, and its fate in these encounters will be heavily influenced by your advice, though it will of course do its absolute best even without advice.  It hardly wants to die.

Heavily inspired by There Is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns, though my approach to the concept is somewhat different from that work.

Please be aware that this is subject to change once the story is more developed. We're only on the fourth main chapter as I write.

The style is an interesting take on the dungeon as protagonist subgenre where the core reacts to the comments in fun and interesting ways. There is the promise of occasionally interludes to explain things that the commenters need to know but don't in order to make informed suggestions.

The grammar and vocabulary of the author demonstrate a professional level though it is deliberately restricted to what would be appropriate for the narrator in question.

It's difficult to judge the characters as fairly when several of the major ones are in my mind those that comment regularly on the story and the first character living in the world other than the protagonist has only just been introduced but the ones that the author has direct control over reflect what they are trying to convey.

Currently the plot is revolved around an argument amongst the comments on whether to be an undead dungeon, to wait to be a magical dungeon by finding a way to unlock slimes or to adopt the newly unlocked mechanical dungeon. It's the perfect time to get involved and influence future decisions.

I believe this is genuinely my favorite novel so first of all thank you, author. The reason I think it's so good is that we are quite literally helping build the dungeon. Do you have an idea that you think would be good? Go to the newest chapter and comment on what your idea is. Maybe the core will listen to your voice and it'll end up in the story.

Trappings of a tangible trending title

Awesome new dungeon core story about a comment comprehending core! No morals so far, which I like. Maybe this dungeon core will kill people! There is still plenty of interaction between comments and the cool core so far, and I look forward to seeing it on trending. I hope the dungeon core matures into a healthy killing machine, and as well I hope to be there when it slays its first sentient.

This story is really enjoyable, its plot is based on the reader's decisions which mean, at least for now, that the core has acted in fun and interesting ways. the story flows well and it feels like you can become a part of this world which is always a good feeling to have about a story.  there is nothing quite like reading about a world and imagining what you would do in that story. This story lets you do that very well with how your comments can give the core advice and change or influence its actions.

for the characters besides the core, it is hard to say how good they are and will be as the author has not really had the chance, as it is still so early in the story, to have developed them but preliminaries that have been seen of them so far seems promising so I have high hope and am looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

I think many will enjoy this read as I do. this store will likely only get more interesting as more people join as the voice the core hears grows. it is really is a lot of fun to read and comment on this story so come join the party.
