24 hours. 10 bidders. 1 winner.

A Princess from Earth is invited to an auction on a distant planetoid only to learn that she's the item on sale.

Her foes include: a Chinese space pirate, a Russian duelist, a Japanese high-tech samurai, a Venusian mafiosi, two expert French poisoners, a floating Swiss banker, a German Baron with more ties to her family than she can imagine, and a British gentleman who also happens to be a pterodactyl.

Her arsenal consists of: vague memories from classes she mostly slept through, a pile of gadgets for which she’s never read the user manual,  excellent table manners, and a ferret who's loyal to a fault.

This will not be easy.

An upfront, gentile, civilized murder party

Reviewed at: Interlude II: Duelyant

Noblesse Oblige is full of the sensation of a wonderful murder mystery party. There's no crawling through ducts or evading detection. This is very upfront, gentile, civilized murder. Bold, honest, unrepentant, and civilized.

Everyone is going to die. Our heroine will do her utmost to kill them. But we don't know how. That's the fun part, because neither does she.

Have I mentioned yet that she is snarky and fantastic? Because she is. Her commentary is hilarious and to die for.

Everyone is scheming against each other through various cultural interpretations of etiquette. I'd liken it to And Then There Were None if we knew the motivations of the murderer. The plots and maneuvers and sci-fi setting build together to create a fantastic work of literature.

Read it. 10/10

Overall

Just like the auhor's other fiction, this story is just brimming with crazy, imaginative fun. The language is a little outdated, but it's part of the fun, because everyone is so pompous in this story. This book has a real LARP feel to it, though it's not a litRPG.

It's basically Charlie and the Choclate Factory but with grown ups and a whole lot more murder, plus instead of oompa loompas you have clones and instead of willly wonka you have a diabolical german baron.
