The Netherworld: it is a hellish landscape inhabited only by demons, creatures born from the dark abyss. It is also the only world Salvos knows.

Joining the ranks of newborn demons, Salvos is thrown into the violent, anarchy-ruled landscape of that world. To survive, she will have to learn, she will have to adapt, and she will have to evolve. She will gain experience to reach new Levels of power.

Her curiosity aids her but her pride could be her fall. It is the nature of the Netherworld to avoid or conquer any threats faced. After all, the law of evolution is survival of the fittest, and Salvos is a survivor. And perhaps, eventually, she will leave this world behind for a better place. But is that what she even wants?

Do note that it's a slow-paced but action-packed litrpg!

First review on this site. Definitely deserves it.

Reviewed at: 40. Survivor (End of Volume 1)

Hello! I've been part of this site for a couple of years now, but I've only gotten more involved in LitRPG just recently. I'm fairly picky as a reader, especially since I've spent a lot of time writing and crafting my own works. And most stories I've read are either trad-published or from manga.

So, officially, this is my first review, and I hope this lifts the author's day when they get a chance to see this.

I want to start by saying that the most trouble I've found reading this work is some of the commenters. There is something that could be understood when a commenter is fairly disagreeable, but then there is less to be said toward those who take their disagreeableness to toxic levels. Overall, I appreciate how the author handles these comments. Showing grit when other authors would've lost their temper or give up.

I understand a lot of us readers are wishful thinkers. We believe that we have the best answers for every scenario. We want to fully invest ourselves (or replace the MC with ourselves) so that everything goes close to perfect unless faced with opposition way too outstanding. But there's something to be said about following a character who's less than perfect and has to struggle their way through their inherent weaknesses.

I honestly like a little bit of both. In this work, Salvos shows a child-like curiosity that's a joy to follow. She makes foolish mistakes in social settings, but that's to be expected. But she makes very great tactically decisions when up in a fight, decisions that can overcome even the greatest of odds, and the odds set against her are quite enormous from the very start to the finish. The author does a great job balancing Salvos' weaknesses and strengths, making her a fully realized, fully believable MC.

I'll like to talk more about that, but let me hit some other points quickly.

Style is a five because it works. It fits the author's voice. And it's never too purple, but some segments are quite pretty. I would suggest that the author uses more dialogue tags to make it easier for readers to identify who's speaking quickly. But that's about it.

Grammar is a five because there weren't many mistakes that interrupted my reading. If there were, the author quickly fixes them. Good job author, you did better than most in this section because there are way too many stories that are hard to read here, and the authors don't fix their mistakes.

Story score is a give because each segment of Salvos's story kept me engaged. From the start in the demon world to the end. I noticed that the author used specific story structuring techniques to set up the ending from the very beginning of the story. Kudos to you, author. You've must have been studying the craft, or you've picked it up intuitively from what you've read. It's not a bad thing that I notice--like I said above, I'm a writer myself--so for me, seeing you pull off good craft is a treat.

The character score is a five, of course. I'm glad to return to this subject because I find the MC's companions interesting. The development that they underwent to not only trust Salvos but to befriend her was sweet. I also enjoyed Salvos's gradual development of understanding human emotions and try to mimic them. It's great that she's learning to mimic rather than go straight into having human emotions already. I really appreciate how you're slowly building this rather than jumping straight into it. You show her mistakes and have her learn. One of my favorite scenes that I enjoy was how she learned about lying and tried to use it and it had me laughing. I also loved how she learned the "WEAK SPOT" and used it to get her point across. Although aggressive, it plays to her demon side, which was really appropriate.

Anyway, with all of that said, I think you're doing good work here.

Also, when I do launch and do my own thing, if I ever reach the success where I can submit to Amazon, you've inspired me not to be Amazon exclusive. While you may lose out on money, I think you gain a lot more in other ways, which is why I really wanted to write you this review and hope that it helps in some way. And I'll be purchasing and submitting this review through Amazon as well.

You deserve it. Don't let the nasty commenters get you down. And please keep on writing.

Sincerely,

Epikos

This thing is great. Awesome. I'm engaged with the characters, and I'm loving the world building.

I've caught up to what's been posted so far on Spacebattles, and had to look for it here. I can't get enough of this story.

The characters are enjoyable, and I like that it's not another "villain protagonist" or "anti-hero protagonist" that turn these interesting story ideas and edgy and unbearable to read.

I great story with a well developed cast. It does start slow, but it's a fantastic insight to creation in the world, and also provides an insight into the Salvos's mind. Theres great growth for everyone over the story, and many points of view to help build it into a developed world, and not just one place.

I can't wait for book 3!

I recommend anyone who likes LitRPG to give it a try!

Very strong start, goes downhill a bit

Reviewed at: 110. Blight

The story is mostly fun, and the main character is fun and cute. After a good start there are some problems with it though.

Discussions about fights are often many times longer than the actual action scenes. After spending a huge number of words explaining why and how a fight is going to happen, the action scenes themselves often get skipped. And then after the (skipped over) action scenes they get talked about yet again, multiple times.

The second main character Daniel is... not great. He's super whiny and constantly wants to run away from everything. The story would have been more fun without him in it constantly trying to make it more boring. The only thing he adds is a focus for Salvos, but that just means Salvos has less actually interesting interactions with the rest of the world. And isekai can be interesting to explore how a person from earth handles the strangeness of another world, but the Daniel character is certainly not up to that task because of both the character himself and his place in the story.

After about chapter 70 I've started skimming over large parts. Lots of it is old information retold to another side character,  Salvos and Daniel arguing over the same things yet again, or scenes drawn out so much that one in ten sentences was more than enough to understand the story.

A demon child trying to figure out who she is.

Reviewed at: 33. Led into a Trap

Salvos is the titular character of a story about a demon child trying to figure out who she is and where she belongs. I've been reading this story for awhile, and like it very much.

The characters are definitely the strong point of of the story, but it's doesn't lose out in other aspects. We see character growth, both literally and metaphorically, and personally I just feel invested in Salvos, watching her grow and learn more about the world, who she is and how she fits in it.

I can't really talk too much about worldbuilding - the demon world is described as bleak and basically a wasteland with literally nothing to see but rocks. The mortal world is well-described so far, but we haven't seen too much of it so far. What we have seen is consistent and well-described.

The writing is well-done. I don't recall any problems, or grammatical/spelling problems.

My personal take is that the story is very much about self-actualization, and goes about it in a very literal way. Character progression is measured by evolution, where each evolution essentially "resets" the character in terms of  and immediate goals.

The last few chapters have been especially good, with Salvos being

Overall

Salvos is a litRPG following the story of a demon as she explores the world in search of a way home.

LitRPG is an over saturated genre where many have tried and failed to gain an audience. Due to this, authors often abandon their work if they don't gain what they feel is enough attention. Salvos is by no means perfect; characters tend to lack clear motivation or they go overboard on it. For example, Edithe being willing to abandon her class for Salvos in such a sudden way, while explained, lacks a certain depth for it to hit meaningfully. Another example would be the villains of each volume, both having lacklustre explanations to their actions beyond them being stereotypically evil. More could be said, but many of the issues are symptoms of daily chapter uploads required to be competitive on Royal Roads or they are fundamental issues with the litRPG genre.

What I can praise Salvos for is potential. The foundation of the story, while not perfect, is solid for what is likely turning into a long term story. The world building is progressive without the need for blatant exposition, dialogue and action scenes are mostly solid and rarely drawn out. The author has demonstrated that this has the potential to be another Azarinth Healer style serial. Wether or not the author intends to do so, I can't say. Nor can I say the quality will maintain or improve itself over the next 100 chapters. All I can offer is the story seems promising and has established its roots and I hope the author doesn't get discouraged into what has happened to so many other litRPG stories.

Should you read Salvos? If you enjoy litRPGs and are in it for the long haul, yes. If you're on the fence, I'd recommend putting it aside and checking it later down the road.

It's good but world building has holes

Reviewed at: 174. Attacked Again

Just to summarize, I like this web novel, but there are a few aspects which make me unable to rate it 5 stars.

There's no real explanation on the empires, countries or map explanations, which limit the understanding of the created world. It could've been, for example, explained when the introduction about Adventurers Guild and Companies was done, especially when the main 3 Companies were mentioned.

Then there's little explanation on skills and stats. There's no specific duration nor any description for skills after they're acquired. Increasing skill levels with points seems to just be a way to show progression, as any real explanation for the difference between skills at lvl1 and 20 is how the latter is stronger. This excludes skills where duration is specified, albeit rare, as their use timer basically just decreases. Writing this way certainly helps an author with fight scenes, and I do not mind ignoring such things if the story is good, and so far I've enjoyed myself, which is the most important part of a web novel for a reader.

My main pet peeve has been

About her Mortal Transformation skill. She could swap every hour. The only negative was a -7 debuff for all stats which decreased with each level. Later on she seemed to swap whenever, so I suppose 1h passed at minimum every time?

Partial Mortality, a skill she received 60 levels later as an upgrade, only seems to remove the small stat debuff. The level one timer was 12h to change, and she lost consciousness to sleep right after transformation for some reason, which wasn't explained. Seems like an odd quirk to add in for no reason let's be real. So, in return for losing the -4 or -5 stat debuff, the cooldown timer increased to 12h from 1h and she loses consciousness on swap.

One last thing though...bugs... really?

Gather round my fellow fiends and harken unto me, for I come to bring you judgment and criticism upon the work Salvos.  The time has come at last to banish your boredom!  I will admit to not being enthusiastic about the initial premise, for demon litrpgs are a genre full of dark and terrible sins.  Not nearly as terrible perhaps as other litrpg offshoots but few have managed to possess sufficient readability to complete a single significant storyline.  The system also seems at first blush: lackluster. However, I continued reading on and my faith in delta201 was rewarded. The medium of Royal Road upon which we read these fictions requires rumination upon four categories for an advanced review: Style, Story, Grammar, and Character.  Style was never in question, delta201's fictions have style in spades.  Story is proving itself excellent, and I have high hopes for the future therefore I will not detail further to prevent spoiling your future experience.  Grammar again was never in question and enough said about that.  Lastly, Character, can be broken down into several categories, all of which Salvos has excelled at.  So my recommendation for my fellow bookworms is to exorcise your eyes with this excellent fiction which demon-strates many new ways to say hell-o!

This is pulls me in so much with every chapter.

Reviewed at: 163. Proudly Awake

I really really love this. I like the plot and the characters so much. Especially salvos and Daniel. Is it weird that I'm shipping them?(pls don't trash me). And I miss Haec. I can't wait for the next chapters.

The pacing of the story is just right for me. The grinding, their banter, the occasional chuckles. the adventure, the lesson etc. I can see the characters individual thoroughly. Like for every word, every sentence, and phrase, I can guess who's speaking. I don't really know how to explain it. I binge-read this for about 2-3 days and honestly the 200+ aren't enough. I want more. Give me more.

Ps.

I really love Daniel and salvos and I wish to see a speck of romance spark between them. But uh well, if the story wouldn't go that way, I love it nonetheless. I would love to get a chapter about Haec. I wonder how he's doing. Or is he even alive.

Hope the author's doin well.

Pps. I can't get my review above 200 words and I don't know what to say. It's not working. Why is it not 200 words. Isn't my review a whole essay now? I swear I thought I wrote above 300 words.

For people who like a good adventure story with a light sprinkling of lit-rpg.

Not sure whether I like this or Melas more, I am very excited to see Salov level more and more! This one definitely has better progression so far. Happy to see another Inn reader taking up the pen! :)

Nice work on this, super looking forward to more. (Bought it on Amazon to read the first volume then continued here.)
