One of the better Fanfics

Reviewed at: Chapter 15

Usually I don't read fanfictions on this site, but this one piqued my interest, and boy am I glad that it did. This story is well written with a good premise. The story has a good bit of combat, but it isn't the main focus like so many other stories. Rather, it is more about how Lee lives his life, which just so happens to include Pokemon battles.

The characters are all well written and thought out with their own nuances. I've been enjoying watching their relationships grow, and I can't wait for a certain addition to warm up to everyone else.

Overall I recommend this if you have any interest in Pokemon!

Did not think I was going to like a Pokemon fanfic

Reviewed at: Chapter 15

So I was bored and I had clicked this story a few times, because I forgot the synopsis a few times, before I said fuck it I will give it a few chapters to see how it goes.

I finished all the way up to current and was thinking I hope it does not take a month for the next chapter.

Yes ash is in the story, no he is not the focus at all. Story is better than actual pokemon.

This is my first ever review on royalroad but this story deserves it This story is a work of art plain and simple no ifs ands or buts this story is a wonder to read and this is coming from someone who never got into the pokemon fandom BECAUSE of the unrealistic and downright childish way all story's I have found handle the SI or OC transported into the pokemon world trope and this story has RUINED most of the pokemon fandoms showings for me...it's a true story of friendship hardship and overcoming your problems as lets not forget the Pokemon training part of the story it shows a really in depth and entertaining realism to what we all Know and love about pokemon and brings the nitty gritty of real life people into the childhood fantasy of going into the pokemon world as every kid who played a pokemon game on their game boy or ds has had it really made me stop and think about whether or not I would be able to handle watching my pokemon battle if I was living in that world...my only request for the author is something one of my fellow reviewers brought up in his review....longer log chapters! I love it when we get to see just how shocked the world natives get at Lee's training methods and behavior regarding pokemon training! It's the second best part after the training that makes the logs so if your looking for a true to reality pokemon fan fiction this is your one stop shop for cute pokemon cool battles and real people and NO ANIME PROTAGONIST PLOT ARMOR BULLCRAP

Don't let the Pokemon fan-fic scare put you off

I have to admit that I started chapter 1 simply because I love stories about modern day people being transported into a fantastic fictional universe and forced to cope. The word "Pokemon" alone almost pushed me to close it before giving it a try, not because Pokemon is a bad fictional universe, but because many of the fan-fics that come from that community tend to be rather weird and not at all up my alley as a rule of thumb.

I'm glad to say that I was absolutely wrong and almost missed out on a true gem of a story. The author takes the basic foundations of the Pokemon universe and expands on it in a way that feels, ironically, really realistic. The story spins a damn good yarn, the fights are thrilling and well-executed in a way that even the show would have a hard time to match and if I read this in a book, I'd be satisfied with my purchase.

Can't wait for the next chapter, thrilling ride, 10/10, would read again - IGN, gold stars all around, hoping for a post-nuclear apocalypse so the author can grow a third arm so they can pat themselves on the back as much as is deserved.

Dang, I ran out of chapters

Excellent and well thought out. We have some poignant trauma, some solid motivation, characters that are actually interesting and not carbon copies of each other, and a unique viewpoint through the MC. It doesn't fall in the classic fanfic traps of demonizing, dominating, or tritely regurgitating the canon content. The MC, while logically at advantage due to his background, is capable of losing. This means actual stakes and dramatic tension and all sorts of wonderful things.

Some quick bullet points:

+ There are no arbitrary jumps in power or unnecessary pandering.

+ I did not cringe at any given point.

+ The author did not make me feel bad for liking Pokémon by making unnecessary allusions to slavery.

+ Gardevoir was, mercifully, left alone.

+ MC is believably disturbed about his situation without beating the self-pity drum to death or spending days exploring the depths of his own naval.

Negative:

the story is now at parity with the FanFiction, a03, and spacebattles versions, which means I'm out of chapters. And yes, I liked the story so much that when I finished I immediately went to check all of those.

Read it. Totally worth your time, even if you're not traditionally into Pokémon or Isekai.

Surprisingly good and mature...

Reviewed at: Chapter 15

I was impressed to see a pokemon thumbnail right there on a trending fic, which turn out to be good to great stories far more often than not IMO. So I decided to check it out after liking the premise... and I've became a follower pretty quickly even if I don't usually give fanfics the time of day. This is good stuff.

On to the story itself.

The MC has so far been marvelously developed, getting used to his new reality even as he realistically deals with the scars and traumas of his past. His bonding with his pokemon are also very well done.

The side characters (trainers/followers)... are Pokemon characters I do not know. For background, I've loved pokemon since I was a kid... but I never got past much further than season 2. There's been some development on them, but it's still a bit early.

The story itself follows the usual pokemon (anime) themes of duels / events (team rocket, accidents...) / training and bonding between characters and pokemons, and I can't complay about any of them. Everything so far has proved to be a good read. The MC with some foreknowledge and a different way of dealing with things usually shines with his experience and pragmatism.

Grammar and style are solid, very few typos and good structure.

My thanks and congratulations to the author for this fine story.

I love the story, it is what every pokemonfan has deamt of to experience themselves. Starting your own poke journey. The character brings his profession knowledge and pokemon hobby knowledge to the world of pokemon which has been adjusted in a way that make it a tad bit more realistic. However this is not happy go lucky character like Ash with a big dream of their own. The protagonist is deeply hurt and struggles very much with the fact they have been migrated/isekait. A beautiful jouney is sure to ensure.

This is my first pokemon fanfiction, so I do not have much to compare to, however I enjoyed this very much. What I would like to see even more of in the story, is slice of life and maybe a little slower pacing. I cannot help but compare it to the pokemon series where it honestly took ages in between gyms, traveling and cities. I experience the story as if it skips over most of the adventures that the characters probably have had during their travels. I would enjoy seeing the characters grow a little more gradually. I think you are doing a great job with the grass type pokemon (no spoilers). I would enjoy the story even more if you added more adventures between the cities and perhaps make a few more friends on their journey. I am not sure if the main character would be the one to make friends, but for surely his travel companions would.

This great. I've been reading this over on FF net for the past few months and it's one of my favorites.

It updates often enough and doesn't just follow the MC's of the original story around.

Honestly it's just like our MC was ended up here and is making the most of it.

Way better than I thought and I'll try to explain

My initial worries going into this novel were that it would not provide anything I had not seen before when reading *pokemon inspired fanfics*. I had a feeling that it would be like watching a youtube 20 part playthrough of Fire Red - entertaining but nothing I had not seen before.

HOWEVER, this blew my expectations out of the water. Fuggman has approached this novel with surprising attention to character detail. Every character is well fleshed out, even ones we have all heard of (e.g. Ash and Brock) have gained new life and depth through his portrayal. Not to mention the pokemon are all given their own characters and entertaining traits and are not reduced to just eye-candy.

Furthermore, something that excites me most about this novel is how Fuggman does not hesitate to use his imagination to EXPAND on the pokemon and their movesets. The training of the pokemon quickly became one of my favourite parts of the plot as I saw how an "earthing's" approach to pokemon would revolutionise the game we all know and love.

If you were hesitating because you were worried it would be cliche, dull, or some weird self-insert, then I can assure you that you can cast aside those worries as this is the furthest from such things.

Lastly, the chapter sizes are IMMACULATE, and I never notice grammar or spelling mistakes.

Props to the author for making a Pokemon fanfiction that doesn't make me want to tear my eyes out, it's honestly incredible, and I could not recommend this web novel enough.

Obligatory there might be spoilers,

Grammar:

I don’t really need to say much about this, there are rare errors, nothing major, and the book flows very well.

Story:

The story makes sense, and the way the MC becomes stronger with Vulpix is logical and not so fast like some other books on this site. Another thing I like is how the MC doesn’t brush off the mental issue of getting fucking nuked, and it stays as a very nice plot device, but isn’t so relied on it gets old. There are a few breaks in logic in the way that MC is somehow not horrifyingly irradiated and killing everything he touches over time, but we can wave that away really easily, so it's not an issue.

Characters:

The MC is unique, and the other characters are as well, as in they aren’t cookie cutter copies of how they were in the shows/games, and seem alive, and not like robots. My one complaint would be the logs, which although provides us with recaps and some more info, the repetitiveness is somewhat bothersome. To solve this I think the professor should speak more in them, so we can learn more about him, and maybe the world as a whole (not all of us have religiously played pokemon, lol). Not to tell you how to write your book though, it’s  up to you in the end.

As per my usual I have no idea what to write for style, (have a free 5 star on it) but it's a great book and I fully recommend it. Thanks for getting me back into the Pokemon games as well!

And don’t let the 15 days of nothing bother you, it's worth reading even if it doesn’t start up again, which we can only hope it might. :)
