The Perfect Run

by Void Herald

Ryan "Quicksave" Romano is an eccentric adventurer with a strange power: he can create a save-point in time and redo his life whenever he dies. Arriving in New Rome, the glitzy capital of sin of a rebuilding Europe, he finds the city torn between mega-corporations, sponsored heroes, superpowered criminals, and true monsters. It's a time of chaos, where potions can grant the power to rule the world and dangers lurk everywhere.

Ryan only sees different routes; and from Hero to Villain, he has to try them all. Only then will he achieve his perfect ending... no matter how many loops it takes.

Retry until perfection. An Excellent story!

Reviewed at: 15: Good Karma

Just worth the read honestly, blew through this story fairly fast, and loved about everything of it, it is just so entertaining, the unusual premise helped a lot also, not often that you see a superhero ‘timeloop’ story, let alone this well written, by an already established author to boot!  And then there is the MC, what an amazingly well written character he is!

I just love the MC Ryan and how he is written, he has just a such carefree attitude developed from his many reloads. He just fully embraced the absurdity and yet remains sane, even if it does not seem like it at first sight. He just keeps advertising what he can do, that killing him is futile, and keeps making those jokes and references, all just part of the greater personalia the MC has built.

The MC’s power is just insanely strong, as one would expect from a power that allows you to set a save point AND also use time stop, though with clear limits, and he uses it to maximum efficiency to achieve the best possible result for him and those he cares about. But even with such a power, he still has to be careful because he is not truly invincible, he may be able to ‘reload’ his way out of any bodily harm, but cannot do the same for his mental wellbeing.

In my opinion, Void Herald has done a good job with the setting this story takes place in, even more so since its rather wildly different from his other stories, which were all LitRPG’s. While this does take place in a dystopian Italy where you can get superpowers from using one of the rare Elixir’s or their more common knock-offs which grant lesser powers.

Grammar is great in my opinion, some typos and inconsistencies do pop up, but not frequent enough to be of any hindrance to the reading experience.

This story reads amazingly well and is paced without even letting up, it just keeps going without slowing down and drags the reader just in the story from the very start. I really like the way information is delivered in this story, more than enough information to let readers become familiar with the characters and the setting, while at the same time also keeping up a sense of mystery, without even infodumping anything! There’s also just the right kind of humour and comedy as one would expect from Void Herald.

Looking forward to what this story will become, I personally have high expectations due to the author's previous works, and the rather phenomal start this story has so far. The author is also very capable of writing quite different types stories and succeeded at it all, like demonstrated with this story.

Anyone interested in reading a good story with an interesting premise executed very well and fun MC, I recommend you this one. Oh also the author is one of the most reliable on this site, having completed multiple books already and in my opinion, this one is shaping up to be his best work so far. And if you loved his other stories, then of course you should start reading this one right now.

A future history viewed through shattered goggles and clockwork oranges with much less sex.

Anti heroes, super heros, villians with superpowers all stirring around in the leftovers of a postwar society.

To get 5 stars from me requires Gibson mixed with Pratchett.. the story and prose are good but not that good

An MC that's probably sane and acting insane

Reviewed at: 9: The Made Men

It's weird how I didn't think this type of character is possibile, characters acting deranged to cope with loss or depression but truly are sane at heart. Quicksave at least based on the limited amount of info provided on him showing him obsessed with pre genome era Earth and it's quirks, powers and fun seeking personality that should be generic crazy chaotic character that does everything for his selfish desires alone but secretly has some convoluted reasoning behind the madness that the readers can empathize a little bit with until he kills kids or something.

But here, especially in chapter 9 he clearly knows his problems, he just straight out puts it out there that he can't seem to form connections with people knowing they will forget about him the very next reset and his fun seeking persona of deranged generic protag is a very clearly a mask meant to separate his emotions and pass these people he meets on his journey as NPCs until he finds Len. This. This is further improved upon by how he cares if innocent people die around him while he fights to an extend that far exceeds the amount of thought a jaded crazy psycho maniac shit will give for some fodder. Also why would he bother getting this perfect run at all if he doesn't have a heart, like think about it, ever seen those barely sane psychos that cares only for one girl and kills everyone else kind of absolute shits. Instead he's an actual human being with a kind  heart that watched way too much 21st century action movies and thinks he's joker or something when he is not but can't stop acting like it cause then he will have to feel more pain of loss everytime someone close to him dies!

It's just that he's still a normal human boy (Actually he's probably mentally in his 70s or something still) even after all this time and yeah yeah he still cares somehow for others even when he doesn't show it, so wow, like wow, what the fuck, an actual misunderstood Hero that can make Batman go fuck himself.

Or maybe I am overanalyzing it and voidy boi will show him destroy the planet for shits and giggles or is only doing this perfect run to impress Len and doesn't care about anything and only acts like he cares for making us readers think he cares in a 4th wallbreak kind of BS or- you get the point. Still I am keeping my hopes for the character at a 70% good guy and hope for the best. And hey it's Voidy boi's story and he's pretty great at it- I SWEAR TO GOD VOID HERALD I WILL DESTROY FRANCE IF YOU DASH MY HOPEFU-

This is the good type of story where the author obviously created the world and charectors and knows them in and out. They have motivations and personalities that shine through and I love it.

Also, this is my favorite type of story a really strong power with a conflict and motivation that doesn't simply require "more power." Love it so far!

Phenomenal early chapters. Different tones of comedy from Vainqueur but it hits the spot. My brain needs nutrients of healthy stories and they're in short supply lately. And this? Is nothing else but entertainment. A top-class entertainment!

So there, I just shove a 5 star on you and you can't take it back!! And there's no return-to-sender allowed.

Good day, keep writing.

A story that fills the void in my heart

Reviewed at: 3: Men of Honor

I've read Void Hearlds other fictions and I can safely say that this does not disappoint any of his previous work. The style is comedic and wacky but can easily get deadly serious. Which gives the author a large amount of room to expand his characters while still keeping the tone of the story the same. The Story itself is too young to accurately rate right now but so far has been a blast to read. I only took off the half star because it's a superhero story and the media has been saturated with those a lot. At the very least the source of the people's powers is all the same mostly which I am thankful for. I may change this score of Void Hearld takes the tropes of this story and flips them on their heads in all the right way but we'll have to wait an see. The Grammar is great with no instances of misspellings so far. The characters are where this story falls a little short, I think with a story like this. And if you've read his other works. Hearlds characters are a little hard to love, sure their funny. But it takes a few chapters to care what happens and a few more to love them. I think it's gotten better. Since I know what to expect with his characters I began to like Ryan quicker. I think with this story the flaws I just talked about may be changed quicker. Now that the author has experience.

I've been following Void Herald's story "Vainqeur ever since it appeared a bit more than a year ago. The story has been discussed in more detail on his discord and he gave a more comprehensive summery of the story on his Patreon where her let everybody, not just his patrons, decide between this and a wuxia. I have high hopes for this story and will give a more comprehensive review later on.

Read the first chapter and I can immediately see a large potential.

I've always enjoyed timeloop stories and see great potential for this one.

However, I've also read all of Void Herald's stories so far and its a fair jump from what he's written so far. I wish him best of luck and hope that this will become a story that is just as good (if not better) than his last ones.

I will reserve my judgment for later and change the score accordingly. However I do have to say that so far we have a witty MC with some flair on his side and a mission to complete (side missions included). Well, after all, it's for that perfect score.

Hope to enjoy the rest of the story.
