After fulfilling the duty all arch necromancers are tasked with, Sylver Sezari was not expecting to ever wake up again.

But he did.

And after crawling his way back into the land of the living, he’s alive once again. In a strange land, a strange time, and with a strange floating screen in front of his new face.

Either through plan or chance, he’s alive again, and planning to enjoy himself to his heart's content.

-The story isn’t grimdark, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows either. There will be lighthearted and positive moments, as well as some sad ones. That being said, it’s a whole lot more light than dark.
-This is a LITRPG story.

Chapters are published every 2 days at 21:00 GMT.

Author’s note:
-It can get very GORY. I’m somewhat desensitized to gore and violence. So while the story isn’t full of gore for the sake of gore, it can get a little too descriptive.
-The MC is a necromancer, so corpses and decay, and all the things that come with it, will be mentioned from time to time.
-I’m a huge fan of Egyptian, Slavic, and Greek mythology, so expect quite a bit of that. That said, so much is altered, you’ll be hard-pressed to guess how exactly it is being used.
-Despite being ‘immortal’ the MC can die. In the event he does, the story doesn’t end, simply time skips forward. Which in some cases is going to be worse than just dying.
-I love plot twists, as much as I love red herrings and Chekhov guns. Deus Ex Machina’s not so much.

This story is simply excellent. For me, one of my big dislikes is when an author spends more time world building than telling a story - this doesn't suffer from that at all. It's a great mix of story and world building - there's no real excess of monologing or view switching.

I've been binge reading it thr last couple days and I'm hooked! Personally there's slightly more gore than I'd prefer, but definitely not enough to put me off reading it.

On the grammar/spelling side - grammar is great. There's a number of spelling mistakes and incorrect usage (off instead of of), but nothing serious.

Definitely recommend.

One of my favorite necromancer novels. I binged reading it for a few days. Solid story, long chapters and characters are acting like real people. I like the change of POV in the earlier chapters. especially the flashback of MCs life but it didn't continue. Hope to see side stories of these POVs.

Excellent! I blew through this in a couple of days because of how engaging the story is. There is a good amount of world-building, but the main character truly shines in this story. I highly recommend this to anyone, although if you're squeamish, maybe this one isn't for you.

In conclusion, there aren't too many stories on royal road that you just can't put down and this is one.

Competent, rational necromancer is lost in time

Reviewed at: Ch065-The Paved Road To Hell

Sylver is a great character and a good portrayal of a competent necromancer that doesn't just spam out an army of zombies to solve everything. Rarely do i see fantasy stories that handle so well the main character starting out with great power - usually they grow stale quickly. Also, it's not an entirely new idea, but you don't often see such well thought-out "character from outside the system" premises.

Sylver Seeker Advanced Review

Reviewed at: Ch145-Bath Time

Great premise! Reminds me of the Grey Necromancer DnD story.

It's rare to find a story about someone who should arguably be one of the most hated people in existence, but him being so old and really really wise (experienced), it doesn't really matter. He's a good person at heart. All of the things that he's done that could be considered 'bad' or 'evil' are so far in the past that they don't matter. Everything he's done is way past the statute of limitations.

It's a sad start for the MC, but we really don't know what the Ibis has done. As the story progresses you learn some f'ed up shit about who the MC was and maybe what the Ibis was about. This story is about morality, or something. How to treat immortality as a... cursed blessing? Something like that.

All the supporting characters are well written with clear backgrounds and motivations, but the author really likes to describe them once and then hope that the reader remembers who they are when they're mentioned 10 chapters later. There are very very few grammar mistakes, but some of the compound adjectives that occur about once a chapter are a little hard to parse.

The system described is interesting. It seems that stats and levels don't really matter, at least from the MC's perspective. They're like benefits you can live without. That sometimes are very very nice benefits. And there's a lot of intrigue about its origin, like was it made by a god or something? Is it a god itself? Apparently it didn't exist before (unless Lola was also isekai'd, or unless the two characters introduced later in the story have their memories so scrambled that they're misremembering the past). It's a fresh take where the system is important, but anyone can still die from a knife to the brain or eating an explosive, irregardless of hp.

I highly recommend the story, especially if you'd like an ancient arch 11th-tier necromancer lich's perspective on everything.

The new adventures of Koshei the deathless

Reviewed at: Ch021-Back In Black

This is a very well writen yarn about a amazing Lish who dies and suddenly gets another chance in a very different world X tousand years later.

The author manages to make a symphatetic character out of a necromancer who kills and maims whithout a moments pause but just as well are nice to old ladies, helps cats and keeps his promises.

I can't recomend this story enough!

Word of warning though, if you are easily intimidated by dead bodies, authopsies, enslavement and casual killing, then this may not be for you.

I remember picking this up shortly after it started and it was a pretty good story about an archlich necromancer who reincarnated and was utterly baffled by this System. Enjoyed it for quite a while, but kind of unconsciously dropped it circa ch. 44 or so.  Not really sure why, but I think in part because some of the side-quests/plots seemed to drift really far away from the main plot and I had a hard time staying focused on the characters.  Wasn't really pushing my buttons at that point and it had a standing rating of 3.5 for a while.

But the story continued to be very highly regarded among the literariat. So I finally picked it up again earlier this week.

It was great.  Not quite 5 star material, but having a huge chunk to binge-read was really satisfying and the story definitely seems to have improved significantly. Hopefully this'll be one that'll I'll read the chapters as they come out.

First off, I like this story a lot. It's got good adventure, has interesting scenarios, one of the few MC's who legitimately prefers discussion to violence, and some pretty big questions that are slowly being investigated.

But it's not perfect, either; it has two things that bother me rather a lot, although I  don't know if they're really 'flaws' in the writing so much as bits of style I don't really agree with.

First is... well, not exactly plot armor, but something that kinda looks like it. See, the MC has all this crazy necromancer knowledge, but he lost a lot of his power, and he's continually getting into situations that should be tricky, but he manages to pull through with his knowledge and preparations... which is fine, except afterwards he goes around saying 'wow, I dunno how I got through that, I'm actually super squishy and should have died if they looked at me wrong, it's a good thing I got lucky~!' and... Eh. I do feel like there are places where the MC's unreasonably lucky, but in other parts I feel like the MC has legitimately got a lot of power, and he just pretends he doesn't, possibly because the author didn't originally intend to write him as that powerful, but needed to in order to get through the predicaments he's put in.

So, yeah. Either he's got a giant blind spot about his power, or he's got serious plot armor. It kinda looks like the first to me, but the character himself seems to think it's the second.

Secondly, giant pieces of plot that just appear out of nowhere.

This isn't all over the place, but where it does show up, it's egregious. See, this story does something that's actually quite rare: it gives the MC substantial backstory. And I do mean substantial. Like, thousands of years worth. Which is used to great effect to give the MC fairly complex motivations, an actually mature outlook on life, death, and lot of stuff in-between, and some interesting insight into the history of the world.

It's also an absoultely humungous blank plot check the author isn't afraid to whip out whenever something interesting needs to be added to the story.

Want a demon summoning subplot? Well, it just so happens the MC was invovled with that.

Going into a crypt? Well, the MC just so happens to have some idea who built this.

Running into a god? Well, it just so happens the MC's a bit of an expert on this subject...

And on and on like that. It's not all bad, but it can feel a bit... unearned. Like, you know how foreshadowing is a thing? While reading this, I coined the term 'postshadowing' to describe what this story does. Instead of bringing something up, then having plot points related to it happen, the plot points happen, then the MC does all the related exposition afterwards. It's somewhat better than random stuff just happening, but not a lot better. It's just random stuff happening + exposition, for the most part - but the backstory does help somewhat. The author might overdraw the credit I'm willing to extend at times, but that plot check does exist.

Anyways, this story is decent, and if you like long fantasy stories, necromancy, or calm protagonists, you should give it a shot.

But it does have it's own quirks.

Could be good, but has no soul

Reviewed at: Ch032-The Pathetic

The story is close to being considered as good, but as it is now it will quickly get boring and eventually just be completely uninteresting.

There is a basic plot, the MC is somewhat fleshed out, and things happen...thats it. There are no meaningful character interactions that are not MC centric, by this I mean that its as if the entire world revolves solely around the MC and everything else is just a basic characature that can be described in a few words.

"Inn guy who gives the MC something"

"Girl who he decides to take on a date for no reason"

Any emotional interaction or interesting dialaogue is cut unless its MC focused and/or it advances the plot.

For example, the MC goes on a date with a character out of the blue and instead of getting any rhyme or reason as to why or maybe even puzzling out if the character is interesting or not in some way all that happens is the event is glossed over with the worst case of telling and not showing ever.

This same problem occurs again and again, where instead of being shown something interesting we just get a quick description of what happened as if character building somehow is not a major component of any story.

Good story of a good guy with evil powers

Reviewed at: Ch066-Demons, Deals, Dried Bread.

Great story about a necromancer from ages past waking up in the world after a long time. Mild spoilers for early chapters below.

Fun concept of an ancient Lich with time-trained techniques waking up after the world has adjusted to a system Apocalypse. Using techniques instead of skills to get by while trying to understand what's going on is great fun. MC is a necromancer that has principals and sticks to them, not a yellow belly that'll let people walk over him, not afraid to put people in their place and skip past the bullshit.

The story is great, world building is solid. The MC has goals without feeling that they are the centre of everything that's happening despite just (re)joining the fray. Action is enjoyable, lots of gorey details that fit with the context of a necromancer doing death-and-harm related things; done without being gratouituous. MC also isn't a psychopath going out of their way to be an asshole which is nice.

Writing itself is great. Some minor grammar errors that are easily ignorable; a missing comma or an accidental space in the middle of a word once every 3 chapters isn't the end of the world.

I'm hooked, can't wair for more!
