The False Summoned

by Flameruner

Original ONGOING Action Adventure Fantasy High Fantasy Magic Portal Fantasy / Isekai

The Summoned were called from another world to save them all. Wielding significant power because of their access to 'The Interface', they acted as beacons of hope for humanity.

Or that's how it was supposed to be. But not everyone thinks they're doing a good job.

Lane had a dream since he was young—to stand on the same level as the Summoned—and he finally found a chance to seize it.  But things didn't go exactly as planned.

A promising start

Reviewed at: Chapter 5

There's not a lot to talk about being five chapters in, so I'll keep this brief. TLDR at the end.

Very fun story so far. Though things are still somewhat in the setup phase, it's a great premise with a nicely fleshed out world. Flameruner does a good job of making it feel like a world and system the main character is taking part in rather than revolving around. There are quite a few details I'm looking forward to seeing pay off.

While unextraordinary, the writing so far is pretty good - definitely above average. Other than the occasional awkward sentence or repeated information it flows nicely and reads well. Also, the pacing is quite nice, with the plot moving fast without feeling too rushed.

Characters so far are alright. We've started getting some direct dialogue between the protagonist and other characters. While the supporting cast seems pretty interesting, the protagonist is quite bland. The dialogue is well-written so interactions don't feel too unnatural, but I would really like to see Lane given some personality.

TL;DR: I realize that this review sounds quite critical, but I truly have enjoyed this story so far. It's just plain fun to read and if the author continues with it I could see it being a well-loved and long-running series. If you can look past the rare hiccup in prose and a (currently) underdeveloped protagonist, I would highly recommend giving it a shot to anyone interested.
