Heart of Cultivation
Book one is now available for purchase or download through Kindle Unlimited!
Jian was a prodigy, at least until he discovered that his path of cultivation had hit a dead end almost as soon as it began. That was all years ago, though. He has long since resigned himself to his fate and prepared himself for a dull, ordinary, but happy life. Stunted cultivation or no, he's clever enough to carve out his own comfortable niche.
Unfortunately, not all of the matters from his past have been settled. When a reckless mistake threatens to cost him everything, Jian will have to prove that he's desperate enough to rise to the occasion. Or that he's capable of avoiding the consequences.
This is an affectionate reconstruction of the xianxia genre. I will be deploying the tropes from the genre that I enjoy in a framework that I think makes sense. The story updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and sometimes other days.

Very well written and worth a read. Waiting for more chapters.
Starts in the usual manner for these sorts of stories, but already you can find differences in how the protaginist is dealing with the world around him then most others of this genre, being familiar with the authors other works, I'm looking forward to seeing how the character develops from here on out.
I'm coming from SB, I'm enjoying the story so far and seeing Jian only decide to push with his reckless idea now that he's in an area where his father can't as easily stop him from risking his life makes sense.
Looking forward to more in the future and I hope it does well here.
This is an excellent take on the Xianxia genre so far. The MC is likeable, and the story is well written. I have high hopes for where this is going.
To be honest, i didn't even know what Xianxia was before this story was recommended to me. I am now looking forward to every chapter that the author publishes! All storys from JacobK are really a great read.
Jacobk writes consistently interesting stories withe consistently nuanced and interesting characters, and this one is looking to continue that trend.
As of the latest chapter I can see alot lot potential ripe for the taking, hopefully the author keeps the quality and pace consistent without getting bogged down in irrelevant plot points.
So far I cant wait for the mc to get his macguffin and explore more of this cultivation world.
I'll review later when theres more to read.
I see jacobk author something, I hit five stars.
It's actually a good story though.
This story is a diamond that doesn't use the same overused xianxia tropes. The other reviews can give you a more in depth look; I just wanted to leave an advanced review. I will only touch on the characters.
The characters are downright refreshing. The main character and 'villains' aren't vindictive and prideful to the point of being idiotic. You'll know what I mean if you have read a lot of xianxia stories. The main character knows when to bite his tongue, but isn't a spiteful asshole that wishes to exterminate that person's entire bloodline for a slight faux pas. There is the cancelled engagement trope, but the characters involved have a complicated backstory. It's not so simple as one party is totally in the wrong. What I'm getting at is that it removes all the shitty overdone xianxia tropes that are tiring after the first read while keeping all the fun ones.
At the beginning I was not sure if I would enjoy this story but to my surprise the author was able to draw me into the story and jian’s story quite well. Please continue this am your other writing as well. Good luck
