This Isn't My World, And It Pisses Me Off

Everyone knows the Isekai genre. Everyone knows the tropes, the plots, the hooks. But, not everyone likes it. This is the story of Ikari Yasashi, someone who hates that genre. He ended up in a new world, and he's not particularily happy about it.

Entertaining parody, but potential issues for the future

Reviewed at: Chapter 19

This is a fun parody of the standard isekai plot lead, that resolves the initial plot arc in a handful of chapters. The premise being that a genre-wise MC cleverly avoids the usual truck, three times, before finally being struck down by lightning after yelling at the sky. Unfortunately, the trope-wise moves end shortly after arriving in the new world as the story shifts into a darker more serious tone. The MC then uses the Skyrim Alchemy-Enchanting exploit to instantly overpower his gear and resolves his god-sent mission.

It's at this point that things shift dramatically. The MC has enough power to one-hit basically anything and has taken over the demon kingdom, revealing that the only bad people in the world are nobles and kings. Which I'm not entirely opposed to, but given that everyone has a status containing their sins and virtues, it's counter to the more serious tone that all of the demon king's subordinates were secretly just good people serving a tyrant. No wanton murder or evil outside of the one in charge.

So, I have to say that it's been a fun twist on the isekai setup, but now that it's reached the current point with an exploit that is easily reproducible and not that difficult to figure out (hero went to alchemy lab, then the enchanting room, back to alchemy after requesting rings before visiting a jeweler), he's essentially created the recipe for handheld nuclear weapons and god-mode cheats into the world. The question is, where do things go from here? Another bracelet enchanted with every resistance type closes every risk to the MC. There's an enchantment that makes items unremovable, so he can do the same for all the people he wants to protect.

It's a fun read. Even with the somewhat jarring tonal contrast between humorous whimsy and pedophilia, rape, and mental illness, it's entertaining and stands aside from most similar stories. If I had one recommendation, it would be to draw out the breaking of the system. A cooldown on potion use or effectiveness that forces the MC to (somewhat) follow the expected progression, while improving his alchemy and enchanting cycle. It'd let the world expand and allow for more genre-wise moments avoiding obvious traps, betrayals, and plot-twist questlines, before arriving at a point where he instantly kill the big bad. It would also put a barrier on others copying his exploit and taking over kingdoms by force in a handful of days. Maybe that's all unnecessary and everything so far was just a lead-in to this point, but I've seen a number of stories that struggle to handle an overpowered character after resolving the first big issue.

Either way, I enjoyed the story so far and look forward to seeing what the author makes of the world.

Good concept, poor execution.

Reviewed at: Chapter 9

Isekai's as a whole are normally fun to read, but this one didn't meet that trend. It was more akin to fantasy wish fullfilmeng.

The first glaring issue that I found made the story hard to read, was it's inability to assist visuals with imagery. There aren't many spots with description or allusion, making things come out as if the reader is being told and not led through the scenes. It would be better if the author were to assume that reader doesn't know what objects are and lead with the description of the object.

The second is sure I found in the story came from the lack of emotion in the characters. Though it is told through out the story what the chapters feel, it doesn't draw the right attention to what the feelings feel like. When describing fear, things like "chills crept their fingers across my heart, freezing the blood in my veins to a hault." The description of of fear helps people visualize what it is like and give a better perspective of what the character felt.

Last and most glaring issue, was the lack of conflict. In the story, the character is faced within an awe inspiring new world and yet all he feels is anger at being taken from his home. He doesn't feel fear of the unknown or curiosity of new things to explore, all he shows is his want to punch the demon lord, a god, and the king (in that order) to to get home faster. He also goes into town parading his amazing items and doesn't get attacked once at all so the thing worth more than the kingdom can be sold by the poor. Both situations are to complex to not have any conflict from his actions.

In the end, the story didn't come close to what it could have been. The concept of having the main character hate the world and wanting to make it his own is good, but it just wasn't executed well without the constant humor that was shown in the beginning. It lost its luster when the character couldn't didn't face conflict or face any situation with emotion like how a normal person could face it. I recommend giving this story a try but just know that it has issues and has plenty of room for improvement.

Started as a funny subversion of Isekai genre, after the initial 3-4 chapters it then quickly turned into a pumkin, embrasing all the trappings of it.

Its clear that the author knows isekai well enough to make genre-savvy jokes about it, but unfortunately doesn't know much besides isekai to offer an interesting story after the jokes get stale.

The first chapter was quite good, a parody. Soon became very cringe, with a lot of plot holes. "me mad now me TALK IN ALL CAPS" all caps should probably be used more sparingly otherwise it just loses meaning. Breaking the mechanics is pretty cool but really why not just learn magic at this point, like the battle maid said he could cast the most powerful spells trillions of times... wants a wall? cast a weak earth wall spell and put a quadrillion mana into it...

It's enjoyable, but it unapologetically falls into the very same cliches it was disparaging.

Great and balanced so far

The story is fantastic even more so with a cup of Yorkshire Tea Gold, and as Tod wished: perfectly balanced

On a more serious note the story looks great so far and I agree with the other ~3 reviews

Now I know what you are thinking. The mc's name is Japanese, so it's going to be one of those shitty ass isekais, but it's not. It seriously is good.
