Vainqueur the Dragon

by Void Herald

Original ONGOING Adventure Comedy Fantasy Satire Anti-Hero Lead LitRPG Multiple Lead Characters Non-Human lead Strong Lead

Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: a giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time.

So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes," "levels," and "quests," Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change.

After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

A solid story, built to poke good fun at all the different fantasy cliche's you can shake a stick at. Lots of other reviews have covered what's actually in the story, so I'm going to

The author's writing style is extremely solid and flows well. As a humorous story, the author's tone keeps everything lighthearted and fun even during the more serious moments. Little to no grammer mistakes, at least none that are glaringly obvious. So, I'm happy to say that its very easy on the eyes, and its good to sit down and chuckle a bit.

All in all, this is a very solid story with little in the way of any weak points, and some very solid strong points. Mainly, the characters are fun to read about and the system along with its jokes is hilarious. A living dice that turned into a god and decides everything by having people roll it is the least of the amusing cast of characters. Demon lawyers, angel soul-insurance saleswoman, werewolf dating and just other silly situations that are a fun read.

Pure comedy, and that's not a good thing

Reviewed at: 22: The Meat is Life

The story starts out, and it's funny.

Then it continues, and it's funny.

Then it reaches a point where you're really searching for something other than funny. Something serious to contrast the funny. Something you can get absorbed in and care about.

It doesn't come. All you get is comedy. Sometimes that's what you want, and it's great! But investing time enough to read thousands of words in which there's... remarkably little story or character, and only comedy? It gets dull after a while, and you start to wish for a joke or two every chapter, rather than a chapter or two every few hundred jokes.

One of the funniest web fic I ever read in RRL. It's full of monster gags which is refreshing enough, it'll makes you laugh at loud & won't let you dry for some times. But eventually you'll toned down but it still funny nonetheless. And If I allowed to nitpick it, the only flaw so far was when earth-outremonde terms started to get mixed up, some earth's specific terms should not be known by outremonde original locals. It's looks like out of frame, like seeing Legolas saying "wait a second, let's take a selfie for my instagram" before he pincushioning the orcs, it's funny but it's so off. Damn, I just can't put it into words but you'll get what I meant.

This story is great. It's very lighthearted most of the time even while dealing with dark issues. I'm constantly chuckling to myself while reading it.  I highly recommend that anyone who wants a light/fun litRPG read this.

It's a good novel, and the comedy lands really well at first... Then it just becomes annoying really annoying and as much as I liked Victor in the beginning, he has become a character with next to no change and is wierdly passive.
