Vainqueur the Dragon
by Void Herald
Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: a giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time.
So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes," "levels," and "quests," Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change.
After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

Just what I needed in a novel. Vanqueur, best dragon!
The constant subversion of tropes and expectations never fails to impress, and even more amazingly what was generally painted as a bleak and dark future look positively shiny. It's rare for a novel to contain so much joy in them, and this one has it in abundance and more. The complete opposite of Worm or Warden, but just as good.
EDIT (Added after reading the whole story): Possibly the only web novel ever that's going to be educational even for older people.
One of those books that actually makes you laugh out loud while reading it so that everyone on the bus stares at you like you have problems.
Honestly, a dragon so vain it lives up to its name crossed with some terrbile stockholm syndrome seems to be a recipie for success.
Only complaint i can find is that some of the characters (like victor) seem to gain alot of useless skills that I cant help but lose track of, making me feel that when he does gain something its not really important.
Definitively delivered on being a comedy, while keeping you entertained throughout. Heavily recommend.
The story is silly and the characters awesome. The relationship between minion Victor and Vainqueur alone makes this worth a read.
It strikes a nice balance between excitement, comedy and small parts of seriousness. Yet it never loses its light-hearted tone and overall silliness. It is honestly just fun to read, and one of the stories where I read the newest chapter the second I see it being out.
The premise of this story is inherently comedic: a thief, Victor Dalton, gets caught stealing from a dragon's hoard. Vainqueur the Dragon is as haughty and prideful as he is powerful, but he's also quite needy and has some lowkey abandoment issues (not that he would ever admit it). Vainqueur learns of the system, takes his first level, and promptly decides to begin a lucrative career as the world's first dragon adventurer. This much you probably know from either the author's description or the first few chapters. What you can't know from a glance, though, is this: 79 chapters, an empire, and a shit ton of gold later, this story is just as entertaining as it was on day 1. Vainqueur and Victor's evolving relationship is one of the most fun character dynamics I've seen on this site. 5/5 would highly recommend.
This is my first review, this is also the first book I ever read on RR.
I'll admit at first I rated this baby 4 1/2
Now I'm rating five star.
It's one of the most original stories I've read and he does it so well! The humor is excellent and the characters are hilarious,
You won't regret it.
My only regret is I skipped this title for so long. It's an amazing, funny, and brilliant story. I wish they should make an anime out of it. Great job.
Nearly perfect in every area it excels. Humour, character growth, stereotypes and jokes. You can't stop reading when you started to read first 5-6 chapters. What is even more good is the more you read, the more intriguing the story becomes. What can I say? Not reading this story is your loss. Just start already.
It has been a while since i was able to read a story like this.
A well pace serie with well wrote character a captivating plot and a good system
Truly one of the best litrpg story i read on royal road
(As of now there are 46 chapter, so my review may change later)😁
Often we find a good comedy story that starts great. Then it slowly goes too far in one style or another. Think of how many parody movies just went too far and ended up stupid instead of funny.
This story is one of those great examples of humor that never goes too far over the limits yet dances that edge so wonderfully. From start to its latest update there is something to laugh or smile about in each chapter.
