Vainqueur the Dragon
by Void Herald
Vainqueur is now available on Amazon! Book 1, Book 2.
Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: a giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time.
So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes," "levels," and "quests," Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change.
After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

A wonderful gem
Reviewed at: 35: Season Finale
One can't summarize this without sounding insane. The chapters themselves are models of directed chaos but the over all story is barely held in order with the romping characters and plot.
Give the first 3 chapters a try and you will finish the story.

Non human protagonist? Check.
Snowballing misunderstandings? Check.
Self aware humor? Check.
Lampshading and playing true to tropes? Check.
Character development? Oh yes.
I enjoyed this story from the moment I found it and wish I could read more. Luckily as of this posting the author seems to be intending to write a volume 2.
Since I couldn't wait, I reread volume one in one go again and loved it a second time.
-1 star because there are no otters
+1 star because the Kobold Rangers are awesome
-1 star because I can't afford to get fanart of the Kobold Rangers as Pink and I want to
+5 stars for being an engaging story where the characters make sense, nothing is overpowered that shouldn't be (and even then has failure modes), and the human protagonist gets Vainquerized to acceptable levels as a starting point.

A dragon's greed ...

Is only matched by his ineptitude!
Our scaley MC is a dragon who has recently discovered the 'system' and loves gold.
Becoming an adventurer enables him to gain gold for doing dragony things that's he wants to do anyway. Hilarity ensues!

A Solid Comedy.

Well, first of all, let me say that I love this story. It's a fun, action-packed adventure about dragon named Vainqueur and his reluctant human minion, Victor, as they travel the world, slaying monsters, slaying humans, eating humans, and raking in as much gold as they can. Vainqueur and Victor have a good double act going, with lots of interesting people showing up for a bit.
It's a good book if you're looking for a funny, light hearted comedy action fantasy mix.
Keep in mind, you probably don't know where this story is going.

A good reliable story

Honestly, this is just one of those stories. That good ole reliable story. It's a dark humor comedy action story. It all balances up. The humor keeps my spirits lifted and has indeed cracked me up far too many times than a story about an arrogant dragon that is socially insecure and his sarcastic minion should. It's a balanced out, lighthearted, well paced, humorous story.
There is no boring part of the story, the side characters are fun, the main characters are fun, the descriptions are short and concise, the romance is fun, and the story is overall wholesome. You can finish a chapter of this book and feel giddy, refreshed, and content with what you just read.
Oh and the chapter release schedule is a good every 2 or 3 days. None of that shaky whenever 3 week bullshit.
This is a real treasure to find in Royal Road. I have been reading this story for a while and I decided it was high time I wrote a review on it. I hope that you found this review helpful.
Near the end, it kinda gets in to the ridiculous zone when you get into the late chapters. It used to be a sense of humor, but now it is just hard to keep track of.

A top-notch comedy

It's a very good comedy throughout.
The style is good, the story is novel and entertaining, the grammar is well done, the characters are interesting to read about.
All these parts contribute to the main theme of the book - comedy. And comedy it is: you will laugh like crazy.

This story is great. It's very lighthearted most of the time even while dealing with dark issues. I'm constantly chuckling to myself while reading it. I highly recommend that anyone who wants a light/fun litRPG read this.

Fantastic

I always try to leave the stories I read alone for a few weeks so I can stack up chapters to read. Vainqueur has bested me, I’m unable to stop myself reading chapters as soon as I see them come out. An excellent story that’s very enjoyable to read.
