Vainqueur now has a Webtoon adaptation!

It is now available on Amazon! Book 1 (Audiobook 1), Book 2 (Audiobook 2), Book 3 (Audiobook 3), Book 4.

Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: a giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time.

So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes," "levels," and "quests," Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change.

After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

When a dragon finds out about levels and quests.

Reviewed at: 35: Season Finale

I can assume most readers on this site are familiar with the common premise of the MC setting out on a adventure, fighting monsters, leveling up and getting stronger, gaining treasures and eventually battling great enemies like Dragons, Krakens or the Demon King. But what if its different and the MC setting out on his adventure is a Dragon who loves gathering treasures?

The story starts with a foolish adventurer makes the mistake of going in Vainqueur's lair to retrive a lost treasure, and thus waking up the great red dragon, after a short chat with the would be thief, the treasure-loving Vainqueur discovers that there is more about this world that he did not know, namely the existence of Classes and levels, so Vainqueur decides that he should go for another approach to gather more treasure for his hoard, by slaying monsters and completing quests, meanwhile the unlucky thief is conscripted as a minion and so they set out on an adventure of the kind thats is unseen so far in that world.

Now that volume 1 has come to an end, i can say that this story has gone beyond what i had originally expected of it, and became only better, its seriously such a great fun read.

Vainqueur is like a dragon should be: noble, arrogant and greedy. Yet not unwilling to change a bit to gain more out of that, to add to his evergrowing hoard and be able to brag to other dragons about it.

And then there is poor Victor, our unlucky thief who now finds himself conscripted as a minion of Vainqueur and thus tries to make the best out of his situation, yet that does not always go well.

In general the characters in the story are quite quirky, nicely developed even if they could be more, but i do not mind, as they have such a fun personality, especially Vainqueur The Great himself, Victor also quite grew on me, becoming only better as the story did progress, and then there are all those side-characters!

The world is just your average fantasy world with levels. Nothing really unique but still well constructed.

The plot so far has been nice and fun, and also rather wild and sort of unpredictable, it just stays fresh. This story is just hilarious and great, especially with each new stop in V&V's adventure together bringing new experiences, and the story seriously has kept up that, the plot is still going strong as of the end of volume 1, normally stories of this kind do quite get bogged down by their jokes, even if they maybe still are fun to read, they would be less than what they were, that has not happened here, as the story has progressed beyond being a story with only comedy, adding plot development and building out the characters.

Good grammar, no problems spotted so far while reading this story, so all is fine on that front.

The writing style is good, quite easy to read while enjoying it, to understand what is happening in the story. So far the worldbuilding has been nicely done, flowing well with the rest of the story without interrupting it at all. The story reads especially well, a part of the reason is the multiple viewpoints.

This story quite has delivered on what it promised, being a great fun read, especially for a story with a )non-reincarnated) monster protagnist and his human side-kick, i hope volume 2 can be just as great as volume 1 was, maybe even better!

A fun unusual story, that can get some laughs out of readers. It shows quite the promise for greatness, as it stays quite simple and true to its core concept, that is being a fun lighthearted story that is good for some serious laughs and brings you to even care for some of the characters. So come read it already, this story is just too good to miss!

Skeleton King

All hail His Majesty, best of all dragons, Vainqueur Knightsbane

Came looking for copper
Didn't know what was in store
I found gold
Which Dragons absolutely adore.
Mark Long

It's a good story but I can not put my finger on why. It's like Gintama, weird but good fun.

Rejoice manling minions and assorted foodstuffs as you are graced with glorious opportunity to bask in glory of His Majesty, Red Dragon Vainqueur Knightsbane, First of his Name, Great Calamity of this Age and King of the Albain Mountains as he grows his treasure hoard via adventuring.

Despite audacity of being born in worst of the worlds (if it can even be called that due to inexplicable lack of dragons) you can still become minion or snack, after all Vainqueur is equal opportunity noble dragon. Learn how the job is done from your manling minion kin Minion (or Victor) as he does adequate job of plannig the dragon's route, picking quests, recruiting minions, collectings quest rewards, collecting and selling loot, negotiating with various nobles and planning dragon's class development.

You know, mundane stuff while Vainqueur Knightsbane applies his noble, majestic persona to worthwille pursuits such as growing treasure hoard, tasting sapients, collecting more gold, major landscaping via application of dragonbreath, adding to the treasure pile and obviously being most majestic and awesome being in the world.

MINION! What are you still doing here? Go and read awesome chronicle of Vainqueur's heroic exploits right now! And bring some cattle for a snack, unless you'd like to be one? Is there even point of having minions if you can't snack on them?

Hilarious Story with Great Premise

Reviewed at: 33: BFF

Vainqueur the Dragon is an extremely funny story with a unique and interesting premise.

The premise of the story is that a human thief in a fantasy world who happens to be reincarnated from Earth wakes up a dragon in a cave, and accidently allows it to discover the level and clss system of the world, which dragons had been exempt from prior to that point. The story then follows the misadventures of the two.

The strongest points of the story are the humor, style, and story choices. The humor is very well woven into the setting, dialogue, and character interactions. The humor is enchanced by some subversions of expectations and satirical takes on standard fantasy world elements.

The story has largely moved in a positive direction, advancing the plot while taking time for comedy and worldbuilding, and avoiding the pitfall of getting tied up in its own jokes.

The characters started off as very fun to follow but largely two-dimensional. However, the story has done a good job fleshing out the characters as it goes, and the characters have definitely become more complex and given further room to develop.

As this point in the story, I am confident in saying that this story has not made the same mistakes as so many of its kind do and never advancing beyond its initial gimmick. This story has had its plot organically develop in a great direction, and I can't wait to see where the author takes it.

I would strongly recommend this story.

Love it! Having two viewpoints works for this story.

Pure awesomeness follows when a dragon discovers that classes exist, and decides his old method of building his hoard is outdated.

Absolutely, Hilariously, Awesome

Pretty much as the title says. This is a fun fiction which doesn't take itself too seriously, this includes the stat part which is usually my biggest problem with Litrpgs.

All the characters so far are awesome what with this being character driven but the overall story while minimal without a concrete direction is still entertaining and interesting enough to let the characters do their thing.

Grammar is on point for the most part, even if there are errors the writing is good enough to let you skim over them while your brain naturally fills in the right words.

The Haughty and Greedy Dragon. Recommended Read.

Reviewed at: 18: Uninvited Guests

An enjoyable and entertaining read overall.

Vanqueuer is a prideful Dragon whose greatest desire is to accumalate a large, shiny pile of gold and other precious items. Combine him with a subordinate human whose current ambition is to get laid (or "breed" as the dragon terms it) -- and you have a delectable comedic treat. The story is about how the great dragon and his loyal minons go adventuring using a RPG system.

Haven't found any obvious flaws in any aspect yet.
The dialogue is cool, and fleshes out the interesting character traits of each character. An easy read with no mind-numbing descriptions or superfluous details. Too early to judge the world-building, but it is a standard fantasy setting.

I feel like there are too many skills gained too fast to even keep track of in one person, but doesn't take much away from the drama elements of the story.

As of chapter 17, we are just beginning to see the formation of the plot and the obstacles that our characters must overcome to achieve their goals. The relationships between the dragon and his minions is also being established.

So I'll keep updating this review as the plot thickens.

Stands out from the pack -- as a Dragon should!

Good adventure and comedy. I'm pleased to find this story. Highly enjoyable. One of the fictions on this site that I can unreservedly recommend to friends and family. I'm only ten chapters in, but I want to keep reading. It's not a chore to get through, unlike many I've tried on this site, and I've chuckled aloud several times while reading.

  • Unique twist on a tired genre
  • Entertaining and at times genuinely clever
  • Flows well and is easy to read
  • Fully fleshed out level and class system that's actually integrated into the world, rather than feeling like an add-on
  • Vainqueur!

  • Grammar and spelling trips up every once in a while
  • PoV is not very consistent; this may simply be my preference, but the story works best when it's limited omniscience, 3rd person
  • Character development is a bit trite/stale

This is an absolutely incredible story that at times left me laughing, crying, shouting in victory and more.  The characters are incredibly well written and their antics are absolutely hilarious.  The battles are action-packed and regardless of what is happening, the story never feels like it is being dragged out or filler.  Well done and this will remain one of my favorite stories.
