What would you do if you woke up alone in a forest in nothing but your pajamas?

This is a story about a man trying to answer that question as he navigates a world of monsters, magic, adventure, and numbers going up. It isn't all fun and games, though. Survival is tough when you are alone, and the dangers of the wilderness are not to be underestimated.

This is a world governed by a system of stats, skills, and dialog boxes. It is vital to know how the system works if you want any chance of having a life of meaning in this world. Too bad someone forgot to include the instruction manual.

This one surprised me

I'm not really into HEAVY LitRPG novels that use and abuse numbers and gamey elements like this one, since most authors fail at balancing it out and making their characters, well... Believable and Relatable. Thankfully this novel is an exception, the game-like elements and numbers were incredibly well handled, characters felt believable and alive, and the MC is surprisingly enjoyable in his journey of making a quirky build.

There weren't any glaring grammar issues, (I didn't notice any at all actually). Characters felt alive, and the language barrier was a stroke of genius in my opinion, because it made the whole "Explaining the world and all the systems in place" which usually come in forms of infodumps in other stories that more enticing and not a slog to go through (like most other similar novels).

This is a LitRPG Novel in the purest sense of the genre. It doesn't do anything too original or different then what you'd expect from the genre, Levels, skills points, Level caps, Attributes, Adventurers Guild, it's all here, but it's well written enough that its still a good read if you like the premise.

Anyway; This. Is. Good. (If you like LitRPG). Give it a shot, you wont regret it.

I've read a lot of litrpg fics on this site and I've got to say this is one of the best starts I've ever seen. It's pretty early to be judging it but based on the writing quality and interesting characters so far I think it definately deserves 5 stars.

If there was a pure LITRPG this would be it. Though undeniably cookie cutter it is a well executed simple LITRPG that focuses primarily on stats and doesn't fall into many of the pitfalls other litrpgs fall into. There are no harem hijinks, bad romance subplots or corny comedy lines, just straight good litrpg action. By well executing a simple plot it is much better than other stories that try too hard to be different. Keep it up!

Very Entertaining And Feels Real

The title says it all. I rarely read on RoyalRoad, but this story here has firmly grabbed my attention and refuses to let go.

This story earns the slothy seal of approval.

A wonderful bit of perfect.

This story is a beautiful bit of writing with characters who feel real, a world that feels fleshed out, and a storyline that makes you experience every moment, even when the main character is just cleaning the room.

The only criticism I have is that there isn't enough of it.

Well Made with New Ideas, +1 Respect

I must say, I love what a lot of authors on RR are doing right now with taking the same tropes we've seen and given a refined twist. The character's natural ignorance and sense of displacement in contrast to the usual easy acclimation to the world we see with the usual protag, proves a refreshing new take and perspective. This, combined with likeable characters and a well-done system of progression works well. Although there are some unanswered questions, they are few in number and easily ignorable.

Overall a well-done and enjoyable story.

+1 Respect

Thankfully not another magical swordsman

Finally  Royal Road gets a decent story about a pure mage...not another magical swordsman with a harem. Currently, this story reads as a slice of life. The MC is just slowly cultivating his abilities and exploring the world, while questing/doing side jobs to sustain this life style. I can definitely see the story diverging from this route once he can become more useful to other adventuring groups. I’m excited for when his build will start to come to fruition.

Unrealistic Expectations

Reading the previous reviews, and it being #1 on trending, I had high hopes for the series.

I was severely disappointed.

The story isn't bad, and it's worth the read, but i'd rate it upper mid tier at best. The main issue I have is that the character's abilities themselves are really generic and boring. It's extremely hard for me to look forward to his development when it's so obvious and frankly unappealing.

There's also nothing original about the start nor the plot. I'm unsure why people praised it as such.

Once again, I want to restate that the story is in no way bad. It's just not a 5 star novel and I think new readers might enjoy it more if they don't have that false expectation.
